Battle Revolution is by far in the top 50 for most underrated game of all time. It was way ahead of it's time, look how pathetic the new Pokemon games are. I honestly wish Pokemon Go never happened. It's bad enough that cringey (sorry for using this word I can't think of any other tbh) "normies" are the ones who keep investing in it, but to see the devs forget what made this series so great in the first place is depressing.

In defense of Sword and Shield... yes, they have pretty rad animations, although they kept recycling them from every previous game with some model tweaks here and there, so technically they didn't pull them out all from scratch. It's also important to consider it's simply a fighting game without places to really explore, minigames, or an actual story or cutscenes, although Pokemon Colosseum/XD managed to have a story and exploration as well as its own catching and battling mechanic, and Stadium (1 and 2) had stuff like minigames and additional content. Now, let's take all that stuff and apply it to Sword and Shield. They have the models already done? Yes, in a pretty high quality so they don't have to waste time on tweaking them for a while. They have the animations? Walking, running and some default attacks already done. Same with Amie/interacting animations. The game does something else asides from battles? Yeah, there's also the overworld and there will mostly be some cutscenes and maybe a simple minigame, but that's it. We're talking about a decade old game for a console two generations ago against the most recent mainline game. There's no real excuse for them to have this unappealing artstyle, lagging game, awkward overworld movements, with cut content and mechanics. It's pretty dumb that even XY, 2013 3DS games, had more to offer (National Pokedex, Amie minigames, Triple/Rotation Battles, Mega Evolution, Roller Skaters, Horde encounters) than these games.
Pokémon Battle Revolution: - real size sprites (for example wailord is really 14.5 meters compared to humans there) - realistic animations - full national dex - narration in battle - pass with customization in class Only negative notes: poor customization in the look of the characters and no open world, but it was 2007 and a spin-off. Pokémon Sword and shield: - same recycled models since XY, not in real size - only some pkmns, not full dex - childish animations with poor movement- different battle system
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Battle Revolution looked better since Day 1. That said, I don't hate the new graphics, but Pokemon has been done better in 3D.
Almost the same? Pffff... Battle Revolution looks waaaaaaay better. Even Pokémon Stadium from 20 years ago looks great in comparison to this lazy cash grab.
Hold up that's XD music. Need to point out that PBR also had an announcer that commentated on EVERY move, and every Pokemon. It even has a line that comments on how small the colleseum looks when you have wailord out.

XY was my first Pokémon game. It was my first experience and it was pretty amazing. Especially with the new Mega Evolution designed for the game as one of the first ways to shake things up mechanic wise. I then got Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity (and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon later on) and they were OK but they're irrelevant to the comparison of Pokémon Battle Revolution vs. Pokémon Main Series Games. Then I received Battle Revolution. It was amazing. Customizable battle messages, Pokémon battle animations that made it look like the Pokémon were actually battling (Physical move wise), an announcer that commented on the battles and made you feel pretty good when you landed that super effective move (Usually for me he'd say "Slimed with Sludge Bomb!" Because I'd use a Haunter in most of the battles, the trainers were seen giving orders and reacting to when their Pokémon got hurt. It was... well Revolutionary for the Pokémon series in my eyes. Then came Pokémon Oras. As a remake, I wasn't expecting anything big. I was expecting it to be just as good as XY, and it was exactly that. Then was Sun & Moon, and honestly I didn't care for them. Two things excited me about Sun & Moon: Mimikyu (A Ghost & Fairy type Pikachu Lookalike who could take one hit without receiving damage [Unfortunately that's not the case in SwSh, which upsets me because a lot of things can kill Mimikyu in one shot. R.I.P my Lv.100 Mimikyu with a Sitrus Berry in the Battle Tree]) and the possibility of Pokémon & Human fusions (Which I call Pokéhuman Fusion for short) in future games. They showed us there's a way to fuse Humans and Pokémon together, and they didn't dive deeper into this concept in SwSh? It's honestly disappointing. Yay, we can grow our Pokémon to ridiculously huge sizes (Which is cool concept too, but an unexpected one for me), but we could've been able to fuse with our Pokémon to become cool fusions and unleash a powerful attack on the opponent's Pokémon. Anyway, I'm getting off track (PokéHuman Fusion interests me a lot [The main reason why my main partner in battle is a Lv.100 Nihilego, since it can fuse with people. R.I.P Ultra Beasts in SwSh]). Then came Sword & Shield, and I was excited for the game. It seemed completely different than the others (Preferably the Wild Area and the fact that people talked during the battles [Once again my first game was X and Y and I haven't played any Pokémon game before it, or the Let's Go games for that matter. I'm aware now that messages in battles and the Wild Area style encounters are in games other than SwSh.] Now, it's out and honestly, it was pretty much the others with a different encounter system. The animations are still where the Pokémon don't rush over to attack, there's stadiums but no announcer? Alright then. You can't customize your battle messages still. Come on, even Sun and Moon allowed you to at least change your throwing style (Unless I'm missing something I don't believe anything allowed you to change your throwing style.) Even the Dynamax and Gigantamax attack animations are just OK. For example, Dynamax Cinderace can use Max Knuckle, but when he uses it he kicks the air and magically a fist appears? Uh... OK. Anyway, no hate on Main series Pokémon games, but I kind of hope they make something close to Battle Revolution soon. I don't mind the wait if it means they can make something as revolutionary as Battle Revolution (Also I'll be waiting for that Pokémon game where PokéHuman fusions are possible but it'll probably never happen. Oh well, I still have my Pokémon Resurrection/Immortality idea where it is possible.) I've wasted enough of your time, so I'll stop. Just wanted to share my thoughts. Have a great day whoever reads this all the way through. 😁
@@mattvalcarc they're slow. They're also over 10 years old. If that was redone in today's standards, it'd be much faster, crisp, and fitting for a mainline series game.
I gotta admit battle revolution animations are entertaining to watch. kinda the same with fire emblem series xD I always found the older games animation boring to watch after a while but in the newer games like fates, echos and later releasing game three houses, they have cool animations that I never switched off battle animation. that feeling is the same for me for Pokemon, but I always let it pass because it had so many Pokemons that it would be hard to animate every single one with animations but it still looked outdated. Now this game removed a bunch of Pokemons for quality when they clearly didn't.
Ok I see a lot of people saying it looks good because PBR is a battle simulator and has no overworld etc.. Ok then, what about Pokemon Colosseum? It has an overworld and its battles feel more dynamic. Yes, not all Pokemon are included there but isn't that GF statement as well? Less Pokemon=Better animations
Dozens of fights in the comments. A lot of people say that Battle Revolution looks like this because the only thing they worked on is the fights, and that is when I wonder, in Sword and Shield they couldn't spend at least a year working exclusively in the fights? Does PBR have animations of Stadium 1, 2 and Colosseum? Yes, and they even gave each pokemon animations for physical attacks where they approach and hit the enemy, while Sword and Shield not only recycled the animations of 3DS games, they also recycled the models... (Recycle 386 well done animations against whatever the Galar Pokedex has) As much as I enjoyed Sword And Shield, it doesn't take away the fact that they had to work a little more on the animations, because it seems that the camp was better worked than the game's core mechanics.
I don't care. They should step up to the challenge instead of making excuses. Other game studios are steamrolling the level of quality gamefreak are lazily farting out.
Machoke is more animated in Battle Revolution that in Sword and Shield. Now compare Pidgeot's animation in Battle Revolution to the animation in Sun and Moon. Not only is this proof that they put more effort into Battle Revolution, it's also proof that Battle Revolution is still a good and fun game overall. (Unless you're one of those people who just transferred all their level 100 mons and streamrolled the game. In that case, why the hell did you buy it if you knew you were just gonna win that way?)
I don't buy the argument that the Pokemon games started going downhill at Gen 6. Gen 6 brought it a lot of features that are now a staple in Pokemon games and the reason why the games still have a fanbase following gen 7 & 8. Shiny hunting, better breeding system, horde battles, and customizable characters are what comes to my mind when I think of Gen 6. Not to mention Friend safari which made the game so much more of a social experience. What followed Gen 6 was pure laziness, which is why i am here, Its been the same animations since the 3d models came out, battles are slow and unengaging. Honestly since gen 7 I think the games began to stagnate. Gen 8 has the features I listed but no real innovation. I don't think Pokemon have to be super polished I prefer the animations in coliseum, battle revolution, and gale of darkness better.
I just wanna play and have fun with the new pokemon game. I don't wanna be involved in all this drama... but I gotta ask... UA-cam... WHY are you recommending me all these videos that will just suck me into this drama, hurt my hype, and make me look like a wooloo for just wanting to play the game... WHY!?... No offense to the creator of this video though... Here's hoping for Battle Revolution on Switch
You know, GameFreak could've still produced the games, made the models, etc, while giving the models to another developer to do battle animations and such. I mean, it may have cost more, but still would've been a welcomed decision. I don't know why they didn't go ahead and do that, I don't think it would've made the games take any longer.
I do wish that they moved to attack like in battle revolution, but can we all agree that the pokemon 3D models in battle revolution look really weird most of the time.
Not defending gamefreak whatsoever, I do overall think they are lazy and I do overall agree that the stadium games do look better in terms of animation. HOWEVER i strongly prefer gamefreaks only because they are quicker. When your playing long sessions in an RPG, especially turn based i like things quick and to the point. Not saying you can't have both, But stadiums game /battles drag on a bit because of the more in depth animations. They use this for the gamecube games and I end up getting burned out when I play those ones. Still doesn't excuse the other lazy decisions gamefreak has done though or the crappy animations for roaming pokemon.
Brandon De Aguiar finally a comment with some logical input, as opposed to the same rant everyone is commenting. You’re totally right, stadium games have more animations and look nice, but u spend 10 minutes battling one trainer lol
You are right on that but it is possible to create shorter and greater animations, for example instead of seeing the pokemon run from one side to the other one to get close to the other one, just cut the running scene, make it shorter, and cut the damage animation too. Solved!
@@inigolarraza5599 Totally not disagreeing with that (I agree with you). I even said it above that we can have both (just probalby still not good as PRB). I just keep seeing people mention the stadiumns games as examples of great animations for battles when people fail to realize there's an actual excuse with RPG vs A pure RPG fighting game. With those games you don't have a long adventure that takes hours to progress. So when I'm playing those games I don't feel as burned out. However when you start adding the slow animations to an actual RPG game like XD gale of darkness. Normally I can beat pokemon all the way through without burn out. XD on the other hand I had to take 3 month break from it because it starts getting stale. I believe the developers even knew this because they force you to do double battles in these games. I can't imagine how much slower those games would of been with just 1v 1. But I do repeat this doesn't excuse the sloppy human animations, and roaming pokemon animations (wingull animation is just horrible) or even idle animations.
What infuriates me on gamefreak's animation has got to do with the flying animation, I mean I'm fine if bird like Pokemon are flying during the battle but the terrible thing about gamefreak is that almost all flying types just look like they're hovering in to the air without even flapping their wings I mean even battle revolution got that thing right

Grookey's attack animation was cute. He rapid jabbed.

Geez when you put them side by side the Sword and shield looks animations look stale as hell. It's really kind of a shame that nintendo decided to go with gamefreak for this main series installment if this is what they churned out on Switch which is an insanely more powerful console compared to previous. Imagine Pokemon with BOTW style graphic quality - now that would be something I'd be interested in
I may not want to play it (right now, at least), but Legends of Arceus has you covered.
Thanks Pokemon Go, the main series titles aren't the Pokemon Company's focus anymore, they're mobile games. Well, guess this is an end to an era of actually good main series titles.
I honestly wish Pokemon Go never happened. It's bad enough that cringey (sorry for using this word I can't think of any other tbh) "normies" are the ones who keep investing in it, but to see the devs forget what made this series so great in the first place is depressing.
@@SaintsBro217 As someone who played the main series, Pokemon Go is actually pretty fun to play on your spare time. Lol, I actually visualize a pokemon game like Pokemon battle revolution. Didnt know one existed.
Me too
You visualized a Pokemon game that looks really good and has no story that was made 12 years ago?
I visualized pokkenn tournament on the DS as a kid. But with all Pokemon.
Yea cuz who needs quality animation when you got *s t a t i c h o p*
12 years old and looks almost the same gamefreak is just grabbing money from the pokemon fans
Almost the same? Pffff... Battle Revolution looks waaaaaaay better.
Even Pokémon Stadium from 20 years ago looks great in comparison to this lazy cash grab.
There’s excuses for a lot of things in life, laziness isn’t one of those things. 👌
Hold up that's XD music.
Need to point out that PBR also had an announcer that commentated on EVERY move, and every Pokemon. It even has a line that comments on how small the colleseum looks when you have wailord out.
What do you expect after Pokemon Go. They found the Cow they can milk so why should they care for the mainline Games🤔
in my opinion it started with the 3ds spinoff puzzle games
I miss when the animations were better like they were in Battle Revolution and Stadium 1 and 2. 😭
Battle Revolution was way more expressive with the animation and camera angles.
Sword and Shield just looks like a 3DS game.
Battle Revolution is seriously such an underrated game.

Just imagine GameFreak will give players micro transactions on future pokemon games, like you have to pay for your starter pokemon , each pokeballs cost .99 each, the rest of the map is dlc, and instead of trading or grinding for pokemon in the game they sell each pokemon for $1.99 each.
For people disappointed in Sword and Shield, might I suggest Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition? Comes out in October, and is a bundle of both Cyber Sleuth games previously released on PS4 and PS Vita. Comes out on Switch and PC. All Digimon species have one or two signature skills with dedicated animations. Better gameplay, graphics, story, characters, etc.
Yea but it won't have no online install base, shinies, 4 player co-op in an open world area, competitive, and breeding.

Everyone talks about no National dex, cut Pokemon, but can we look at how bad sword and shield graphics are and from all the screen shots I seen every area looks so empty
Do you realize that sword and shield animations only looks a little better because it has HD resolution and better shading? Put revolution on an emulator upscale it to HD and put an shading filter on it, voih-lah you have a game with much better graphics than the 8th gen ones and with better animations too(you can actually upscale it to 4k and it looks fucking amazing also upscale breath of the wild to 4k and you'll see magic)
Pokémon sizes in battle revolution made sense
Lmao, it's crazy how Gamefreak fangays be defending this piece of shit game. Literally a company who's been around for a very long time now and has a lot of staff, can't seem to improve smh
Maybe Gamefreak could get help from Bandie Namco to do a Battle Revolution sequel on the Switch.
This is. This is just depression.

@@mattvalcarc Yeah... the animations seem very clumsy. It's as if the machoke had absolutely no weigh or wasn't affected by gravity lol

@@mattvalcarc they're slow. They're also over 10 years old. If that was redone in today's standards, it'd be much faster, crisp, and fitting for a mainline series game.

I gotta admit battle revolution animations are entertaining to watch.
kinda the same with fire emblem series xD
I always found the older games animation boring to watch after a while but in the newer games like fates, echos and later releasing game three houses, they have cool animations that I never switched off battle animation.
that feeling is the same for me for Pokemon, but I always let it pass because it had so many Pokemons that it would be hard to animate every single one with animations but it still looked outdated. Now this game removed a bunch of Pokemons for quality when they clearly didn't.
How does PBR, a wii game, have higher quality animations than Sword and Shield?
Ok I see a lot of people saying it looks good because PBR is a battle simulator and has no overworld etc.. Ok then, what about Pokemon Colosseum? It has an overworld and its battles feel more dynamic. Yes, not all Pokemon are included there but isn't that GF statement as well? Less Pokemon=Better animations
Do a colluseum vs sword and shield
Dozens of fights in the comments.
A lot of people say that Battle Revolution looks like this because the only thing they worked on is the fights, and that is when I wonder, in Sword and Shield they couldn't spend at least a year working exclusively in the fights?
Does PBR have animations of Stadium 1, 2 and Colosseum? Yes, and they even gave each pokemon animations for physical attacks where they approach and hit the enemy, while Sword and Shield not only recycled the animations of 3DS games, they also recycled the models...
(Recycle 386 well done animations against whatever the Galar Pokedex has)
As much as I enjoyed Sword And Shield, it doesn't take away the fact that they had to work a little more on the animations, because it seems that the camp was better worked than the game's core mechanics.
Even with a Pokédex cut Sword and shield still has significantly more things to animate then Battle Revolution
Both of the graphics look good imo, but BR is so nostalgic for me.
first background music name?
And what's funny is that Colosseum and Pokemon Stadium were even more better at movement than Revolution.
Pokemon Coluseeum OST makes everything look better
The way I like to compare them is too ignore the text and try to guess the move used by animation. You can see a clear difference.

This is just sad to watch. PBR looks so much damn better
You know, GameFreak could've still produced the games, made the models, etc, while giving the models to another developer to do battle animations and such. I mean, it may have cost more, but still would've been a welcomed decision. I don't know why they didn't go ahead and do that, I don't think it would've made the games take any longer.
I would not be surprised if the people defending gamefreak also defended Fallout 76 and Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Balls

Why is this in my feed a year later? Just to make me suffer all over again?
What infuriates me on gamefreak's animation has got to do with the flying animation, I mean I'm fine if bird like Pokemon are flying during the battle but the terrible thing about gamefreak is that almost all flying types just look like they're hovering in to the air without even flapping their wings I mean even battle revolution got that thing right
Why they couldnt reuse these animations?
man this is really bitting them in the ass lol
