      fully agree :) I dont understand why people can pay more and sacrify so much in terms of interior quality and driving experience to get 1-2 liters less per 100km. I also hate cvt, lack of sound insulation and cheap interior in toyota.. Design depends on preferences, so this is subjective

    Bembli, I'd love to see you review/revisit the 2007 MAZDA FURAI CONCEPT. Maybe my favourite concept car ever, and it still looks modern despite debuting 17 years ago. Quite possibly the jumping off point of Mazda's current design philosophy too. Thanks!

    • @timeslowingdown
      @timeslowingdown 3 місяці тому +2

      It is not underrated. They are popular, I see CX-5's and 50's everywhere. Miatas too, in fact. The design is more refined than most other brands at the same price point, yet the interior tech is relatively outdated and their cars are all slow / not powerful.for today's standards. It's a good brand in many ways but has some shortcomings. I think the public sentiment about it is accurate.

      But the point here is that it's not underrated. The upside is that you get a similar reliability and price point to other standard Japanese and Korean brands while also having more refined and cohesive design and finishes which are closer to upscale Japanese brands like Lexus or Infiniti, but the trade-off is the infotainment and lack of performance. And none of the price-matched competitors are meant to be "performance car brands" either, although Mazda did dabble in that with the Mazdaspeed models and the RX models, but they really haven't had anything special as far as performance-oriented cars go since the RX-8 and Mazdaspeed 3 went out of production so yes they are also slow.

    • @timeslowingdown
      @timeslowingdown 2 місяці тому

      Another thing I will mention is that the newest gen Mazda 3 vastly reduced the amount of storage space in the back of the car, killing a lot of the practicality. I used to be able to fit a whole bicycle into the back of my 07 Mazda 3 without taking the wheels off! Which is absolutely not possible anymore. They made the "boot" a lot smaller on the inside even if the car's outside dimensions haven't changed too much. And as I recall from the test drive, it lost the rawness in handling and throttle response of the old one, it feels a lot more generic now. So I think this model in particular is rightfully unpopular because they reduced the things that made the older generations (2003-2012) cool. I haven't been in the 2013-2018 generation. I see a lot of CX-5's on the road, which makes sense because it's the first model in the range of hatchbacks they sell (i.e. all of their cars now) that actually has good storage space in the back. Even the CX-30 has less rear storage space than my old Mazda 3 had even though it's a bigger car.

    My girl has a 2021 Mazda 3, that for the longest time, (non-car enthusiast) people kept asking what it was, especially when it was handling the biggest snowstorm in Lake Tahoe This thing has had 75k aggressive and casual city/highway miles since we got it and it has only ever had a key fob battery go dead. Not one issue and we even got rear ended twice with minimal damage and no issues still.
    All in all Im so proud of this company and all the jumps in reliability, quality, styling and power. My mom (who was brand stubborn with Mercedez) has even switched over to Mazda CX-50 Meridian Edition and even hers is running smooth even tho it is a first year model.

What a great car, and I can't imagine needing a turbo because 191 hp for a car that barely weighs 3,000 lbs is PLENTY of power in the sport mode. I dont think it will come to Australia! I also drive a RHD car on the left side of the road and I think thats the problem. RHD markets dont even account for 40% of the global car market and top spec hatchbacks are more expensive to produce, so it makes sense that they would sell the more expensive hatchbacks in a larger market to increase their sales than taking a risk in a smaller market. In terms of Mazda, we only get top spec RHD hatchbacks if they are also sold in Japan, if not, the probability of them being sold outside Japan is very slim.

    Gorgeous and overall well made. It’s very quiet inside. The materials are quality. The major issue is the C-pillar and the blind spot it creates for the driver. That panel from the rear door to hatch is huge, the rear passenger windows need to be bigger, the pillar / body panel needs to be smaller, and that panel is very flexible. I leaned against it and it popped in. Luckily it popped back out. But, I can say that would never happen in my Mercedes.

    • @mattb9748

      Quality materials except for the piano black trim scratches easily and also a common complaint is the instrument cluster cover also is too soft and scratches too easily. I agree on the flexing C-pillar too....opening the fuel door makes the pillar slightly flex. It's very off-putting, but it's also just sheet metal and not the true structure of the car and these are as safe and strong as anything in a crash.
      The blind spot is bad, but on the other hand the driver assistance aids and rear camera are effective enough that I find I don't often look over my shoulder either anyway. I also came from years of driving VW Golfs that also had wide C-pillars so I guess I'm used to not having a panoramic view to the rear sides.

Just take the beltline down and make it less of a hockey stick towards the back and to me it would be almost perfect. And, I get that the infotainment interface is superior, but they're not realistically ever going to sell more of these (or any Mazda) without a touchscreen.

    Agreed. Save the manuals! I really like this car, especially the NA hatchback with the manual. However, I think it is a little overpriced, and I really hate that it has a torsion beam rear suspension. Also, why is it more expensive than the sedan? Nevertheless, I am considering upgrading my daily driver next year, and the Mazda 3 hatch is on my short list.

    Love my 2021 6spd manual Mazda3 hatch so much fun and a near perfect daily driver. a very nice balance between luxury features, the cabin / cockpit interior with the nice buttons and controls, the handling, and at least for my manual I can get much better MPG than Mazda claims (and even when I drive it really aggressively / fast, I still get like 29mpg city). The transmission shifts SO smooth and feels great to drive around town and overall a great driver experience with everything combined. I just fall in love with it more and more as I own it, I even love it more than my NA Mazda Miata.

    My wife has the top of the line CX5, it’s nice but the infotainment system to me is not intuitive and there’s too much piano black plastic making the interior look dirty. The Bose speakers are good. The exterior is style is very agreeable.

    We have driven different Mazda cars from 2008 (Mazda 3) until our CX-8 from 2019. I really like their design philosophy and that they think out of the box. I very like the Mazda 3, also as a sedan.
    Unfortunately they are very late (too late?) into hybrids and EVs. Here in Thailand Mazda’s sales have dropped significantly because they didn’t introduce new models. The current CX-5 is still the same car as from 2017. They even didn’t change the interior as in other markets. My Mazda dealer since 2008 has abandoned the brand and sells now EVs.

    I LOVE this car. Only one thing, I wish the gas pedal wasn't organ type, and was placed properly for heel and toe. I tried one, and was pretty akward due to how far gas pedal was for it being organ pedal that it makes me to do a certain move of my foot to push both pedals. Well...i really want one, so i am considering auto model. I will always have one manual car, so that's okay I guess

    As an Engineer, I understand why some designers can’t create the flow we all want. Think of the infotainment unit on top of the dash. It’s not perfect, but much better than other Makes. Engineers need to integrate the bits and pieces they have available from outside vendors. It’s all about cost.
    This Mazda 3 Hatch is a well put together machine. Kudos to Mazda.

    EV shooting brake. Still has some physical controls. 789 hp. Can be had with an LFP battery that can charger 10-80 in 11 minutes at nearly 500 kw. and this thing is like 45k for the top trim in China. Their market is insane.
    looks to have some degree of personality in its styling too. not just flat surfaces.

    I own a mazda and like it so not being down on the brand, but when car shopping i looked at the hatch and hated it from the inside. Sure, outside it is beautiful but sitting in it with the horrible rear visibility, both 3/4 and rear with the tiny rear glass, coupled with the high side sill height and/or too low hip point, i felt as if i were sitting in a tank looking out the turret slit. It was positively claustrophobic. Imo, mazda could have made the rear glass larger and the side rear window opening larger w/o compromising the design....as well, imo, mazda needs to fix the high sill height on all its models. Even my gti has a higher hip point and better outward visibility and does not feel claustrophobic.
