- Alabama safety Caleb Downs plans to enter the transfer portal.
The favorite to land Downs, according to multiple sources, is Georgia. Downs, a former five-star prospect, is a Georgia native who has a close relationship with new co-defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson and is also intrigued by the idea of learning under head coach Kirby Smart and new cornerbacks coach Donte Williams.
Downs led Alabama with 107 tackles during a standout freshman season. He developed a close relationship with former Alabama head coach Nick Saban and was eager to try to soak up as much information as he could from the defensive backs guru.

@@jeromelindsey5269there's a reason he isn't bringing his defensive staff tho. He went and made 2 great hires in regards to experience in the south east and beyond for the defense and seconday.

they need to change this transfer portal bs..either With A- if a kid committs to a school like alabama or anywhere,and signs an nil deal there..thet forfeit that deal,and any other new deal at another school for a full year..meaning they can still play immediately with no new nil deal,or set out a full year as it use to be.
I say if you take NIL, it is a 2 year commitment.

@@clydeschronicles3462 for coaches i say if they just up,and leave early for another job then maybe have them pay back a precentage of their salary to the school they are dumping? so far as my idea for the players,they are still getting a full free scholarship ride fortheir education so they would still be getting something,that was good enough for players for nearly 100 yeara..
NCAA needs to cancel this NIL mess. College football players are all about money. You're own scholarship, they have to get a hold of this mess.
Well, if he goes back to Georgia to play for T Rob… At least he will be able to show up with a little bit of behind-the scenes scuttle butt of Kaylan DeBoer & staff’s first week in Alabama… Because I think next fall a lot of these vaunted SEC coaches might find it difficult to figure out Bamas new offense and defense… bama fans should remember that the goat will be there to give DeBoer the nuanced background on all of these coaches, and their tendencies next fall before each game, if DeBoer desires it
This one hurts but if he doesn’t want to be here it’s better for him to leave. Downs is NFL ready regardless of where he plays, but like I say it is what it is. Bama will be ready next year and they will field a team regardless. Hope he doesn’t regret it later.
He is making a big mistake. I wish him well though.
I'll just say that Saban had to lean in to coach the DBs last year cause they were not up to the standard.... not sure the trob and folks were than great if the head coach had to do DB coaching last year.
Luckily they get to sort it out on the field for the SEC opener.
saban had been hiring coaches that were looking to Kickstart their dead careers for over a decade just about. this staff is a much different animal that is being brought in, very impressive. the leaders of the team(guys who want to be at bama) love it already.
All I know is T-Rob flopped as a DC at South Carolina.

Very good commentary... rational, no panic or hysteria. It is his life, so his choice. There are plenty of examples of teams with talent not succeeding, the Angles with Trout and Othani never made the playoffs. He is a loss, but it is not like Bama will be playing with one man short, someone else will fill in, and maybe be nearly as good, or even have a better season with new defensive schemes.
Your presumption doesn't make sense, because the new DC actually coached in the NFL.

Some folks hate to take about the real underlining truth. Coaches can jump ship for more money anytime the please but want to cap NIL and transfer amount to players is silly. What if someone tell you, you only can transfer for only 2 times in life for jobs and cap how much you can make. You would say FU real quick. Let these players make their money because most of us don't know their situation and they money could help tremendously. Another statistic, only 5-7 percent make it to NFL so these kids know their chances are slim. Lastly, how about capping Coaches pay since public universities receive federal money? Congress need to cap those salaries, seriously.
All of these players that have bailed out like a bunch of rats jumping off a sinking ship just shows their lack of morale, integrity and pride in the school that gave them their first break into college football, but they make their own decisions and they will have to live with their decisions, right or wrong!

Alabamas defensive football players need to leave, since they did not live up to Alabamas standards.
Hire Ha Ha Clinton-Dix as defensive backs coach and things may change. These players are leaving because they see the cars and money other players are getting when they leave. Alabama has the name and NFL players so, exclude that about him leaving for NFL ready. Downs has family in the NFL and his uncle was a star in the NFL.

Why am I the only one who has called out Greg Byrne? This guy gets a pass because he looks & talks competent. I was a Bama fan before Saban & it was a disaster. This is a disaster. Not going to give this a 👍 None of these kids no who Kalen Debour is…If Greg Byrne had hired Lane Kiffin, who would’ve have crawled to Tuscaloosa on glass. Most of these players would have stayed. And we would have been ready to roll for at least next 5 yrs in my opinion. But instead we hire an outsider, who has never even been to the South. Just a boring hire & Greg Byrne has set this program back 20 yrs.
I think kiffin would've been great but at the same time, regardless of where he's from I think we got the best coach available. sure kiffin mightve kept more players. but there is a VERY small number of players who have left since saban retired, and I'm sure there's a few more. every guy committed to bama now are 100% locked it and the results will speak for itself. DeBoer brings his entire offensive staff where bama was desperate for. the defense will be just as good or better than what we had with Pete golding, these guys are much better than Pete.

What matters is finding the right coach to keep means the right fit first but the right fit with a quality resume. Saban was right fit because of LSU & his resume. Lanning, Sark & Kiffin are right fits because of Bama/SEC & have good resumes. However, Sark is at Texas. Why would he leave Texas? Lanning really has a great job at Oregon huge buyout. Pay it if he is the guy u want & don’t look back. Kiffin to me has the best resume & would crawl to Tuscaloosa on glass!! Debour has no name value, has no SEC ties, has an overrated resume because he has jumped from job to job in a yr or 2. And has played against allot of weaker conferences divisions so his record is deceptive. A brilliant football mind not a pencil necked geek AD who is articulate & impressive to his peers would understand that & make the right hire.
