Ive landed a kickflip only a handful of times and your absolutely right it comes down to precise technique and timing, not force. I remember exactly how it felt when i landed my first kickflip, I popped straight down, jumped straight up, and flicked level to the horizon, with my foot parallel to the long axis of the board. Flicking in an arc angle like you suggest is something new I will try and im sure it will work but it will take some getting used to. Thanks for the awesome content! I love your videos! 🛹💛
I also can’t get my kickflip consistent , and you changed my understanding of the kickflip! Just subscribed and notice you gained like 300 as I’ve been watching 😭❤️. Keep grinding! Your channel will be huge !!!!!! - commented at 2.7 k subs
Best tip vids handsdown..Just need to scientifically show me the mind set to break up with the flick foot in tre flips and how to reassure my scoop foot and chill you got this dont rush bro...
Great explanation. Loved the force calculation and the relative example of kicking a ball. Really gave some great perspective on what good technique is.
These are the best “kick flip” videos on UA-cam or anywhere for that matter. The part about the board being on an axis - if you can comprehend what he’s talking about you will flip the board with total ease. My problem was my left leg/foot (I’m regular foot) would over extend/pull towards the side forcing the board to land way over to my heel side. My legs were way too far apart and not in the same axis. You are not kicking the board at all - should really be called something else - roll your foot sort of under via a flick of the ankle - “flickflip” Dont use your leg per se - it’s really a roll of the ankle. Don’t stand there like other tutorials by dragging your toe then flicking it off the side - you will just end up ruining your shoes prematurely 😂
As I'm learning this your video appears in my suggestion It really helps me understand more!! Maybe backside or frontside air next time? I couldn't do it yet but still it'll be nice to know 😀
I’ve always thought the idea of “flicking upwards” rather than kicking down may possibly share some physics properties with how you throw for a bottle flip challenge, but I’m not scientifically well versed to explain it - it just seems to feel similar to me. Any ideas?
In a sense that you should keep the majority of your weight in your leg/knee while making it a pivot point, yes it seems like the bottle flip challenge.
What about pressure? I feel like the rear foot pulling the board against the direction of flick to balance the net forces along the longitudinal axis of the board generates pop/leveling out of the board and keeps it more or less under your feet even tho the vector of the flick alone wants to send your board in front of you
i have a question, is it harder to flick the board if the shoulders and body position parallel ti the board? because most of the pros told that we need to keep our shoulders in line with the board.
It's rather complicated to explain it here but the use of shoulders may affect how your board spins horizontally, not how hard it is to flick. If you have difficulty keeping your board pararell to the direction you are going to, and your board does a sort of varial flip, that's when opening shoulders may become a problem. On the other hand, I haven't found any causality between the difficulty of flick and the angle of shoulders. After all, it’s only a matter of 3 kg of a flick. If you can kick a soccer ball, that makes you strong enough to flick a board. I mean, look at Luan Oliveira goes. He's a living proof. By the way, my next video will be THAT. Scientifical proof on the use of shoulders. So please come back soon!
I'm afraid not. So please let me share my thoughts here: I saw your video on your channel. And it seems... - you are flicking down. - your backfoot raises up in reaction to your front toot flicking down. - your timing, pop, weight distribution seems just right. - your flick has room for further improvement though. I'm assuming you think you need to flick down because if you flick forward your board either flies away or it kind of "sticks" to your front foot. They both indicate you are flicking too far. So I'd recommend... - flicking forward without moving your front knee - when flicking forward, DO NOT over extend your front foot. you may be able to avoid overflicking by envisioning where to stop flicking. your front foot should stop right next to the nose of your board, NOT any further than that. - remember, flicking itself is not the hardest part. keeping it compact and fast is. Please let me know if you have any more question.
Are you supposed to actively flick your ankle out ? (Like actually thinking about moving your ankle off the board) Or does it just happen automatically when sliding the foot off?
@@whythetrick hmmm but when I let it automatically slide off. I flick down and it results in bad form. but I still land it. I'm trying to do the ankle flick and relearn it that way.
@@trixy_69 you ever get that down? I've been skating for years I've always did kickflips by flicking down too. I hate how they look I'm on day 4 of trying to break that habit, but I can't quite get the ankle flick.
Why am I only finding this channel now? This is AMAZING! Thanks for all this hard work!

This is a really good explanation of the kickflip. I am going to try it on my next skate session! You've got yourself a subscriber! =)
I love these videos, great song choice too. It fits so well

bro, as an eng student who's taking physics courses and absolutely dread them, i just love this trick tip analysis so much.
Good to hear that. Please let me know if you have any question or request.
wow. this is an amazing video. never thought of it that way
Bravo!!!!!!! Great service to skateboarding communities!!!!!
thanks! there's a lot of room for improvement in this video. will be posting more so please stay with this channel!

Amazing your videos. Super. Can you make one about the skateboarding basic? Popping, pop shouve it and drop-in?
Thank you for the comment.
Currently working on pop shove-its. Please wait for it.
Super educational tnx

gracias señor
i remember the study they did with a whole bunch of skaters years ago sheckler did a fs flip he landed with exactly 1 ton of force

Do the heelflip next. I had the heelflip before kickflips, but now I cannot figure out the right technique for them.

true. I think we also have to take into account the angle of the tail, weight distribution and everything... so many things to do huh
i plays fingerboard and skateboard... just tried not to interfere with the axis, easier bruh. makes my kickflip better lol

Do you have a 3d model for heelflips
Nope, it unless I make one lol
@@whythetrick just now starting to understand the flick on that one. Finally got the kickflip down for me.

I personally don’t. In my case it just happens automatically. But there are people who do as you know.
