  • In a 1988 game between the Detroit Lions and the New Orleans Saints, the Lions called a fake punt on their own 12-yard line. I think you know what comes next

      At least in the Super Bowl era. They had some amazing teams before that.

    This is why you have to have everyone on the same page on a play such as this, including in practice. One person not knowing what's going on can derail the whole thing.

    One of the oddest fake punts was Michael Dickson 2019 against the lions. In his own endzone runs to get the first down

    • @mgb4692
      @mgb4692 3 роки тому

      It wasn't even called. Dickson was about to run out of the end zone then he saw the last defenders turn to go downfield and floored it.
      So basically you could say the Lions awareness on these things have gone from like 5 to 4 over 30 years

      @@mgb4692 yeah I remember dicksons interview after the game saying "who does that?" Just deciding to run for it from the endzone. The last time the Seahawks actually ran a fake punt was against the rams when jon ryan got concussed at the end of the play when he bobbled the ball.

    I’m guessing that was an automatic call when the receiver is uncovered. Now with the circumstances it’s easy to say it shouldn’t have been called, but that’s where the coaching really failed. Sounds like all involved was only half prepared at best.

    • @RobertJohnson-hq6jq
      @RobertJohnson-hq6jq 3 роки тому +4

      It was an automatic call. Arnold told the Press the call was “May Day” if the gunner was uncovered and that a fake was coming.

    I have to assume the receiver didn't see the guy blitz. Otherwise, it's on him.

    Bad fake punt lions. This sums up the lions history as a team no super bowl, one playoff win,2014 pi called pi picked up no flag on Dee Bryant for running on to the field with no helmet. This should have been a 15 yard unsportslike conduct on the cowboys and a fresh set of downs for the lions. Tony romo leads the cowboys down the field for the game winning td. Lions get screwed for the 1,00000000,00 time get screwed by an official bad call. 🥶

      Yep. James Brown did a lot of games for CBS in the late 80s

      I think he started doing the NFL in '87. His partner sounded like Fencik and it seems more likely since he talked about being on the Silverdome floor often

      I came here just to comment this! I never remembered James Brown before he got the FOX hosting gig in ‘94, and forgot COMPLETELY about Gary Fencik doing broadcasting!! Now that I hear it I’m pretty sure that’s who that is, but I was thinking it sounded like Lynn Swann, who I remember doing ABC college football but never NFL games for CBS.

    That’s all on coaching. They have to realize they can’t call a fake with the gunner having no idea what the call would be and having never even practiced the play. None of this is on Painter. He was told to go out there and cover the punt. You can’t blame him for not knowing a play you never taught him. It’s all on the coach.

    Why in the world would they call a fake on 4th and 22 on their own goal line and having to get to the 34 yard line to get this first down this play sums up the history of the Detroit lions they just signed Karl painter in the last week. Recap they called a fake punt even though it had no chance of working because their on their own goal line 4th and 22 I guess is a good time to call for a fake punt on their own goal line why would they fake on 4th and 22 they would need to get to the 34 yard line to pick up this first down and the saints got the ball at the lions 12 yard line. What the hell?

  • @samuelrosenbalm

    The throw could have been better but the throw was good enough. The punter was not part of the problem.

  • @codycrandall6199

    Why in the fucking world did the fake punt on fourth and 22 on their own 12 yard line damn.

    • @codycrandall6199
      @codycrandall6199 3 роки тому

      Why would the lions do this bullshit? 4th and 22 at the 12 yard line is a good time to call for a fake punt. To the shock of nobody this play did not pick up the first down. Talk about a stupid ass dumb coaching design by the lions on 4th and 22 on their own goal line total great fake punt lions awesome. This sums up the lions well no super bowl, one playoff win,2014 wild card missed pi on Dallas defense and missed unsportsmanlike conduct for running onto the field without a helmet Deez Bryant to argue the call with the officials and Tony romo and the cowboys drive down the field and hit the game wing touchdown pass from Tony romo dagger.😡

  • @MightyBiffer
    @MightyBiffer 3 роки тому +2

    The pass was there if the receiver had known it was coming. Then it would have been a great call

    • @johnpersechini4951
      @johnpersechini4951 2 роки тому +2

      Not sure about that. Having the ball at the 12 with a 2 point lead it’s a pretty insane risk. They just gave up at least 3 points.

    I'd have a bit more respect for the video If you literally just announced that you were going to hum for 2 minutes to to make the video long enough to monetized instead just repeating yourself over and over and over.
