You've got to give Andy Williams' stage orchestra some credit for this lovely performance. Evocative, emotive, perfectly in-tune. The percussion's emulation of a clock ticking to reinforce the passing of time motif. No rushing, seemingly effortless but from way down in the emotions.

Absolutely what an instrument. A heavenly blessed man. He was a contratenor; with a range of octaves that was unbelievable. After all these years, we are so fortunate to still listen to the one and only Bobby. The brothers were called "blue eyed soul". Take a listen to his version of summertime, ebb tide, my prayer. He put his own spin on summertime, his range shows brilliantly in that song. Any song (s) that he sang he did brilliantly. He is dearly missed after all these years.

    • @kay9549

bugleboy4527 I can't imagine any artist then or now reach those octaves without the autotune feature in place. There is no comparison, Bobby vessel: voice was heavenly blessed. His range of octaves were off the charts. If anyone views Finn from wings of Pegasus, he does a analysis of Bobby doing this song, the range was 20+ octaves. Bobby was a blessed individual with such a god given voice with no vocal training. Bobby you are dearly missed, you have been gone 20 years thank goodness your🎶 is still with us, and it will be till the end of time.

A damn weekly TV variety show. & 50 years on, singers may love this song. But this performance set a bar that hasn't budged in 50 years. So much for 'modern technology' singers still can't touch it.

The bit with Bill saying "I didn't think it would be a hit" was a joke of course...they both wanted to do it, but Bobby is said to have "won a coin toss".
They each had "solos" throughout their time together.
The original song back in 1955 was so popular, that 3 different artists charted with it.

It was perfection, from what I remember, Bobby Hatfield was nervous due to his parents being in the audience. The host is legendary singer Andy Williams who has hits during this period, react to Andy William's "Can't Get Used To Losing You" and "Moon River," "Born Free," "Where Do I Begin?" and, "Canadian Sunset" and "Love is A Many Splendored Thing." Christmas Song "It's the Most Wonderful Time of Year" and "Happy Holidays/The Holiday Season.

I love Andy Williams. It's the most wonderful time of the year is one of my favourite Christmas songs. Andy was also instrumental in launching the careers of The Osmonds.

@@ginalashley1265 , apart from the celebration of the nativity, it simply cannot be a 100% Christmas season without listening to the voices of Andy Williams, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis, Karen Carpenter, and Elvis Presley while putting up a Christmas tree, decorating the house, wrapping presents, and drinking hot chocolate on frosty December nights! Mmm-mmm-mmm!

I like it that you let the song finished without pausing. Not that pausing is no good, but....Great reaction coming from a guy. Most gal reactors would hold their hearts, fan their faces with their hands, smile and even cry. They just get swept away with emotions by this love song. I can understand why. I always enjoy watching their faces.
Many great singers tried to cover this song. But none could own it like Bobby, not even Elvis, in my opinion.

I was 10 years old when my oldest sister brought this LP home and I immediately fell in love. Also, I was privileged enough to get to see Bobby sing this on The Andy Williams show. That, and seeing the Beatles perform on Ed Sullivan were the two greatest memories of my young life. Thanks for playing!

This was featured in the film "Ghost", which was very funny, but did feature Patrick Swazi and Demi Moore in a very emotional clip at the potters wheel. Very memorable.
