      @Jaybles This is the essence of what it means to "repent". To repent means to think about how you have been thinking and how it impacts your behavior and those around you. It's nothing to get twisted up about - it's part of learning, growing, and self-maintenance. We all struggle to do it, and these kinds of conversations remind us to do it.

    1. Own the day, one day at a time
    - daily actions add up across time. That’s what makes up your life. Even doing something 45 min a day will add up. Spend it wisely.
    2. Kids and dogs get it right every time.
    - walk in to your house and genuinely acknowledge those you live with in a way that shows they are valued.

      This cannot be overstated. In interviews, you might notice how when someone else starts speaking, it feels dull. It's not just about charisma, although he obviously does have that, in no short supply. It's also very much about how he dispenses with filler rhetorical devices and gets to the point immediately. I aspire to be like that.

    I miss both of my parents and I regret every day that near the end of their lives I was too busy with my own life to make it a priority to travel 8 hours to see them more often. I know I made a huge mistake that haunts me every day. I tell my own child to think about their decisions when it comes to family and relatives because they too may have a time in their lives they may have serious regrets as I do. I know not everyone can make every family event, but making as many as you can will help minimize your own regrets.

      I lost the best relationship of my life last year due to not knowing how to cope in a healthy way.
      Even after counseling told us that I should make time to greet her when I come home from work, I had a hard time adjusting.

    • @mukiwabanda2794
      @mukiwabanda2794 4 роки тому +5

      If she left you because you need 30 mins to switch off at the end of a long day before engaging in 'couple time' then forget that selfish twat. Women should give men what they need including healthy space when he needs it. We are not dogs whose primary function is to coddle women every moment. A good wife gives her man what he needs. In the old days a wife allowed her man to sit in his armchair, read his newspaper and smoke his pipe in peace. She wouldn't hound him for attention and she would keep the children under control. Men had their own private studies just for this sort of thing and wives and children were expected to respect privacy. She wouldn't drag him to counseling when he was trying to rest but instead make him a sandwich and a cup of tea and leave him alone. Not talking total neglect just talking realistic needs of men. In return a husband provides for his wife anyway she needs and is attentive and ready to spoil her when it counts.
      If you can't find a woman like that then stop falling in love with these whores who use their vaginas like bargaining chips. Also man up, make some money, and stop running away from having kids when you're pushing 30 and eat and play like a kid yourself (eating children's food like pizza and chips and gaming 2+ hours a day). You won't attract a loyal woman that way.

      Could make that part of your unwinding process, just a smile and a good to be home comment doesn't have to be a whole conversation. Adds up just as Peterson said it just depends on your relationship quality right now.

    If you fight with your kid 40 min every day about going to bed you are doing it wrong. To repeat yourself and expect another outcome is pure stupidity. Better find another way. Maybe prepare for bedtime. Do something with your kid making it tired. So it want to sit down and have a quiet time. Have a routine with going to bed, talk about the day, reading a story, singing a song. The bed should be a good place to be. And the kid will fall to sleep.
    Sometimes you have to take a fight with your kid, but don't yell. Kids are crying, but you shall keep your calm. "If you took out all the LEGO, you put it back in the box. Cry as much as you like, but we are not going to see the cartoons before you pick it up." Just calm explain the consequences and say "Well, you choose to sit and watch some LEGO instead of the cartoons, your choice." But you have to win that fight. Keep going until they give up. Next time you ask the kid to do something, they do it. Normally they get it the first time. A well spent hour rising the kids. But if they don't get it and you have to take the same fight every day, change tactics.

    It's brilliant what Jordan says about the holiday. True, because holidays are just a false sense of escapism. My parents for example, that's all they really look forward to and it's for about a week or two out of the 36 that there are in a whole year. Those priorities are so fucked and if people don't learn from it, they're doomed for the rest of their lives.
    People should do interesting and lovely things together, there must be common interests or why did they get together in the first place.

    For years, my dad would come home totally stressed out, and if it was a particularly bad day, he would literally kick the dog. Me and my sister ran straight to our bedrooms almost every day when the old man came home and waited until he had calmed down, which was mostly due to my mother listening to his ranting. That was not a good time for our family. I learned a lot from that.

Unfortunately many people have obligations that they can't take care of without a job and it's not always easy to transition from job to job. We also have to think that a large portion of people are job scared and won't act against their boss' or company's needs, even if those needs conflict with their own.
      In my case, I have obligations to the project and to my coworkers. I don't think much of my company but if I leave, the project and my team will take a hit. I've also looked around the industry and I don't see anything that looks better than where I'm at now. In other words, everything looks like crap.

    I think the example of the dog can be easily over-exaggerated: Dogs get it right every time because you are nice to it. Let it go with no food for 3 days and give it half a bowl of water. As it runs to you to greet you hoof it really hard under the chin, blow pepper into it’s nose and put cigarettes out on its ears. Now let’s see how happy the dog is it see you. If your dog shits on your bed, chews up the furniture and then is really happy to see you - I aint interested!
    What I wanna see is the 24/7/365 of conscientiousness. The greeting at the door is a welcome plus but not essential. Moving to human relationships, If your wife greets you with delight when you walk in the door but she is sleeping with the neighbour while wants nothing to do with you sexually, she does not work and the allowance you give her (because you work 50 hours a week) she blows on shoes and makeup instead of bills and food and never cooks and cleans the house then the fleeting seconds of jubilation at the door means nothing. I repeat: it is the every day slog and grind that gets you…. Not the bouncing dog at the door!

    Why would one begin with the premise of the endless - we filter that out of our thinking at a certain age , how about around age nine or ten. We have our ancient wisdom since the Gutenberg press without having to pay for it anywhere. I'm only in when truth steps forward to speak truth to power. So I'm out on this clip. I think Peterson should have elaborated on how many pages their are in books - and then randonly plucked a few out of his memory banks and just gone off on a few tangents and then so, so, so, let me carry this further with perhaps a new series, he might say... Oh yes, a series about how random thoughts are the glue that carries the day ... as it were, or the week, or build a schedule around it and just take off like a rocket... weeee.... I did catch the last part though where he admits half-assed that he can be a real prick.

    The point is fighting with a child for a year over anything is ridiculous and if it did happen would indicate something more serious is going on. I can’t believe the blind, thoughtless allegiance you give to this guy. There have been many critiques of this man, why don’t you try reading them sometimes. So you agree with Jordan Peterson - fighting with a child every day for 40 minutes for a year is ridiculous and if it did happen it would indicate something more serious is going on (or improvements and efficiencies can be had).

      Thomas Kiernan
      The man teaches: Stand up straight, prepare to take on the world cause it can be a cruel place, orient yourself before attempting to orient the world, recognize that the little problems become big problems, don't tell untruths, humanities main enemy is the generally unfair nature of living not each other, think as an individual first and a member of your race/creed/gender second, be kind to dogs and children, accept responsibility, assume everyone you talk to knows something you do not, treat yourself as well as you treat your pets.
      Explain to me what the critiques on his ideals are if you don't mind? He is painfully intelligent and wildly humble, but even more than that a geniune person. He's not a dreamer or delusional, he just believes WE can do so much better.
      And to top it off his 30+ years researching HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY gives him WAY more credibility than anybody that attempts to critique him on topics they cannot even begin to compete with him in.

    • @zazendom977
      @zazendom977 6 років тому +2

      To answer your question as well, I believe his points against post modernism are the fact that anarchist type neo Marxists are beating into the heads of the younger generations the idea that the unfair and cruel nature of the world is the current government and institutions fault, that they deserve more for doing less. That somehow being overall one of the most privileged and advanced countries in the world is a blight. That kids taught by their gender studies professors to dismantle the white patriarchal society in the name of equality, is not the appropriate course of action for BETTERING OURSELVES AS A WHOLE. How have race relations and gender relations gone backwards since the early 2000's? Imo by the post modernists questioning the affairs of current relations amongst men/women black/white. By somehow feeling oppressed when you can walk down the street to the store, buy a beer and a bag of chips and go home to watch TV. While children starve in 3rd world countries, where little girls are sold into sex trafficking, and war never ceases. While we feel unfulfilled and unhappy in our 9-5's and air conditioned homes with endless water.
      Post modernist feel unfulfilled so they stand again big business, cultural norms and government in the name of justice but really they have no more clue what to do with their free time than scream and shout. It's sheer laziness. Everyone with a smartphone is the smartest person in the world with a Google search, yet nobody actually fucking knows anything.

Peterson misses all the time by using so called post modernists, but quotes only from writers, philosophers and scientists of the enlightenment and avoids their total body of work by taking individual quotes that only serve to support his conservative agenda. He misses when he starts his internet career protesting what pronouns he claimed he was being forced to use re.
