I've seen dozens of videos about electric cars in China, and this one is the only one that mentions the fact that foreign brands like Tesla are also subsidized by the Chinese government. DW BBC Bloomberg CNBC and even the media in Singapore have been repeating to varying degrees the lie that only local Chinese companies can enjoy massive exclusive subsidies. And, of course, cheap labor costs and even forced labor. They will never tell readers that the subsidy is available to all domestic and foreign brands, and that the national subsidy policy has officially ceased at the end of 2022. Nor will they ever showcase the automated production lines and legions of young, well-paid software and hardware engineers of Chinese automakers.

Fear is the only reason the U.S. wanted to contain China. When tariffs failed, technology sanctions followed. When both tariffs and sanctions failed, de-coupling became the buzzword. And when de-coupling was found to hurt the U.S. economy more than China's, it was changed to de-risking which in effect means a "slow de-coupling" until a more appropriate time.
Twenty years ago, American muscle cars and reliable Japanese cars plus reputable German, French and Swedish cars and even newbies from South Korea were selling like hot cakes in the Chinese market and each and every maker made a fortune in China. Nowadays, however, the U.S. has no hope of selling anything to China -- not only industrial products but also agricultural produce which are easily replaced by many other countries around the globe.
Now, America wants to ban Chinese EV's on the ground of the, again, "national security" scapegoat when in fact they fear for the future of all American automakers. Fear has also invaded European minds and the Europeans want to adopt the American low-life tactics. Sooner or later, the world will be divided into 2 camps: one that embraces worldwide integration and the other a closed economy that fears competition. The acceleration of the de-dollarization movement will speed up the divide even further, to the point that it may break the world monetary system in half.
Perhaps the coming "collapse of China" can somehow soothe the overwhelming anxiety of the West?

Or perhaps the US want's to protect it's own industry ? Do you know how many factories have shut down over the world due to the access to cheap Chinese workers ? The US just wants to keep its industry alive. Which is why EU cars have massive import tax in Asian countries because if they were cheap then people wouldn't support their home industries. Simple economics really and very fair.

For me, the biggest difference between China and the West is that the Chinese are not ashamed to plan and logicalize life in society to the point that is virtuous. During the pandemic, for example, many Western governments (including Brazil, my country) simply gave money to banks hoping they would stimulate the economy. What the banks did? Simply put the money in their pockets and treated it as if it were a cash inflow. While the old Western world is stuck with the nonsense of short term profit and pure rapine, China is reshaping the world.

There are clear indications of government support and investment in BYD, Nio, Li and many other EV markers in China:
      1. **BYD**: Several Chinese state-owned investment funds hold equity interests in BYD or its subsidiaries, which suggests that the Chinese central government sees BYD as a key player in the EV market.
Additionally, BYD's founder acquired a state-owned automaker in the city of Xi’an in 2003.
      2. **Nio**: The Hefei investor group, which includes state-owned or state-adjacent entities, owns 24 percent of Nio China, with the remaining 76 percent belonging to Nio Inc., the holding company[5]. Additionally, CYVN Holdings, backed by the Abu Dhabi government, will invest about $738.5 million in Nio Inc[2][11][14].
      3. **Li Auto**: Li Auto Inc. is a Cayman Islands holding company with no equity ownership in its VIEs and conducts operations in China through its PRC subsidiaries.
In summary, like in all other strategic companies and industries there is evidence of government support and investment in most, if not all, of Chinese EVs.
Another datapoint to note is how Chinese media (which is all controlled by the government) actively suppresses news about burning/exploding EVs in China. See this ua-cam.com/video/yOA7qKMcjcE/v-deo.htmlsi=dbX1qDRSGYP4vsVS. It’s not hard to imagine why the government does this. They have their own $¥ stake in thee EV companies to worry about. in essence, this is just competition between power generation & distribution and oil & gas industry. It is just part of the world's electrification process.
For car buyers, the calculation is so simple, for a gasoline SUV, it is approxinately 9-14 liters per 100KM, for electric SUV, it is approximately 20-25KWH for that 100KM.
The operating cost difference is HUGE, even without considering costs of maintenance and service ......
for daily communiting, conventional engine cars doesn't have any chance......
for long haul travel, there is already wide spread NIO battery swap stations, Tesla super chargers, and other latest high voltage charging solutions.
Engine cars won't disappear in a short while, but their dominance will. The same thing happenned to steam engine 100 years ago, but steam engines still survived for many decades.

The only reason why EVs haven't entirely taken over the world is because of battery capacity concerns (aside from the pollution that comes from making Lithium batteries), as well as the number of charging options (plus charging speed).
But once those things are settled, watch how EV takes over the world. It's just an inevitable progression in evolution, just like AI.
Remembered how people laughed at the corny and bugged AIs 10 years ago? Well, are they laughing now? This is despite AI not even reaching close to half of its potential.
It's not a matter of petrol being relevant, but how even the oil and gas industry is already transitioning to electric. It's really inevitable.
In smaller vehicles like bicycles and motorcycles, EVs are already taking over the industry slowly but surely. There's just no argument or contest over their performance and efficiency.
And the thing about EVs is that the performance isn't solely capped at its engine. A software update or minor upgrade of say, the controller or even the battery specs would already boost its existing performance. You can't do the same for petrol vehicles without doing a complete overhaul.
