Omg thank you so much for the hut scene, it makes so much sense now why he went to propose her for marriage. Its good to see they got blessings from all for their marriage
I found the film and bought the DVD in 2020 to see the Special Features that included these deleted scenes. It's still worth it to buy the DVD (Blu-Ray) because this video edited the deleted scenes themselves!! The first deleted scene during which she comes to his rescue, is one that happens BEFORE he gives her the lamb and (rather prematurely) proposes marriage. In the film there's a beautiful early evening scene in which she rides up to the top of a hill. It's a stunning scene with the colors in the sky. There she pauses to take it all in. In the film they cut to the next scene, but in the deleted scene on the DVD, she hears Gabriel's dogs barking below and she realizes something is wrong and rides down to his cabin. When she arrives she begins banging on the door. You can see why he was so impressed with her he'd want to marry her after that! ☺
@@Jas-vp4fd Thanks for responding! I'm glad you agree. Much as I love the film, without that scene, his marriage proposal struck me as a very odd thing to do at that point in the story.
Oh thank you! I’m going to find the blu ray, I just watched this movie 🍿 2 days in a row this week and will probably watch it again now. I do love the part in the end when she say, “wasn’t I your first sweetheart?” 😭
I wondered how Farmer Oak knew about Bathsheba flirting with Mr Boldwood - this deleted scene shows that Oak wasn't being a creepy psycho stalker & that Boldwood came to him & shared the information
i never knew there's deleted scenes and alternate ending. actually the wedding scene fit enough to put in between credit scene. i wish there's a director cut edition
The current ending is perfect though. The theme wasn’t about a happy ending, it was about her realising that she could be vulnerable and accept love. As soon as she did that, the story ends. The director made the right call.
What did she save his life from? I am not a english native speaker, and the tone in this scene was too bad for me to understand. So I do not know what really happened in the hut.
@@ulrikehoffmann6268 He was living in a shepherd's hut and had lit the fire to keep warm. She went in and opened all the windows to let the smoke out and then revived him from smoke inhalation. It was quite an important part to the story, but they had to pick and decide what is relevant to the story they wanted to tell.
@@ulrikehoffmann6268 I was confused as to how the man knew that it was Bathsheba who had sent him the Valentine, as that piece of information was also left out. He had taken the envelope and asked Gabriel if he recognized the handwriting on it, and Gabriel had told him. I read the book many years ago and had forgotten some of the plot. Next time I go to the second-hand bookshop, I shall buy another copy to read again. Films do not always do justice to the books because of the time they have to reduce the film to.
Off topic of this video - but the scene in the film where Sgt Troy asks his wife for £20 = £2,983.44 = $3,817.06 in 2024 in case any other nerd wondered
The only scene I wouldn’t keep would be Troy throwing the coins out the window, unless they were going to do a previous scene with Boldwood offering the coins to motivate him to marry Fanny like in the 1967 film. Other than that, these were great scenes.
I saw the original when it came out (1967) and on tv recently. I much prefer this version; Matthias' Gabriel Oak is so fanciable! I'd say yes in a heartbeat 💓
Bring those deleted scenes back, movie! Matthias .. what a man!
oh yes, what a man truly…
I’ve only just discovered this film and it’s beautiful. Carey Mulligan and Matthais Schoenaerts are magical together.

Welcome 😊

@@Jujudeze22 You're most welcome! I think I'm due for a re-watch myself!! Enjoy!
Defo worth a re watch ❤ Thanks for this explanation, it all makes sense now
Those scenes were so important for the comprehension of the characters’ emotions 🥺 and they were in the book so why were they removed 😭
just recently discovered this film. such a gem. loved every minute of it. gabriel is just too perfect.
One can't help falling in love with Matthias Schoenaerts... In this movie..

BAD DECISION TO DELETE THESE SCENES!!
i never knew there's deleted scenes and alternate ending.

i wish there's a director cut edition

the first scene... bro fell in love 😭
I wish they kept that scene! It’s such an important scene cause that’s what started their friendship when Bathesheba saved Gabriel’s life
This is why reading the book is a good idea as they miss so much out when making a film.

I really like this ending. It feels complete ❤😊
I love this ending better!

I never saw these scenes before? What happened?
Made sense!
Audio is very low😢
I highly suggest watching the original 1967 version. I think both versions are great, but the original is the best

@lesleyairey6633 I agree. Also the acting in the old one is strange to me
Perfect🥹😍
