Being a disabled and retired 62 year old I began to dress better after leaving my profession. I did so as part of my healing process. Everything said in this video I've found to be truth. A quick example is how my doctors treat me with greater respect, listen more intently, and spend more time with me since I began dressing well. To the Style OG I simply say, salute!
@@louiscyfer6944 It does. That should be implicit but it is worth making explicit. This channel is so helpful I just turned 17 and you have a lot of great tips for men of all ages. You feel like my uncle giving me some game at the barbecue. Salute OG!
Style O.G. speaking the truth yet again. I'm 53, I have the wisdom and maturity, but for years, decades even, I was still trying to dress like I was in my 20s (and doing it poorly too). Once I started learning about and developing my sense of style and dressing better, people really noticed. My confidence went up indeed. Great video, Jeff!
Jeff drops the knowledge! The older you get, the more your casual wear should be upgraded to show you're "still in the game". Starting in my 50"s I started buying less amounts of clothes and spending more on quality pieces. I haven't looked back and besides, dressing better elevates how you feel about yourself on the inside as well as the outside. SALUTE!
At 64 years old I feel that impressions set the stage for communication. Focus and being on point says a lot about you. Now at the grocery store, people seem to get more nods and hellos than ones who dress down. Don't blend in, set the standard for the day. I'm planning a trip to Europe and from what I see there aren't many men of color walking around in towns like Munich or Switzerland. Even at the airline men my age seem to dress causal. In all my years of looking at well dressed men, magazines, vids and aspiring to be that well dressed guy myself that statement was a profound statement. It even made me mentally pause to just reflect on it. And so true it is. A well dressed older guy never seems underdressed!
Great tip on the causal dress up. When I turned 40 I got rid of my entire wardrobe and replaced it with suits. Bad move, I over did it. The only options I ended up with was suits or gym clothes. That's why I love your tip about slightly dressing up the dressed down look.
This is solid advice even for younger men, especially in their 20s/early 30s who are starting their marriage and family life.👌🏽 Dressing up from young sets the foundation as a man to make it a habit into your older years.
You nailed it in this video! I stepped up my style game post-divorce. I exuded self-confidence because I felt good about myself. Staying physically fit was just as important. If you show self-respect, others will respect you too. If I wasn’t subscribed before, I am now!
Especially heavy set guys, I'm a heavy brother in my late 50s, but I'm always casual in my attire, slacks, dress shirts, expensive soft leather shoes, plus the younger adult sisters be checking you out, that's a little extra motivation to up your game...
I agree wholeheartedly. Being on lockdown and not having to go in the office, I have not had to throw on a business casual clothes or a suit in over a year. This weekend I had to go to a wedding, purchased a new suit, put it on and felt combination of a new man and my old self again. I promised myself that I'm going to be dressing up more often. The truest thing you said was the posture. Damn straight I was standing tall in my suit. Always been like that. Great video.
I agree with you 100%. I am semi retired from the men’s luxury clothing business. I have worked in that industry for over 20 years in some of best stores in NYC.That’s something I’ve always told my clients. I’m also 63 years old and I have two sons in their 30s and I’m trying to guide them in the art of Mens haberdashery. Keep up the good work men need to know this.
That point about your confidence taking a hit when your starting over(ie: divorce) really hit home. There's a night and day difference in the way I feel about myself after i work out and hit the town in a nice outfit. I'm a blue collar worker, so I actually feel more comfortable in Dickies work pants even when I'm going to the grocery store or to grab a bite to eat. But I'm gonna get out of my comfort zone. Thanks for the valuable content. There are a lot of men that need these tips.
Man, what a great UA-cam find! Love his advise and delivery. Even the way he looks at you with that sideway glance is badass! Thank you, Jeff! "Likes" given!!!
OG, on point as usual! Important to bring that energy and style into all your environments. It starts with your attire and smell, everything else flows after that. It’s important to keep that wardrobe updated and refreshed. It’s a life changer.
Absolutely! This video is right on the money, IMHO. I'm a 48-year-old male, I'm finally making a career change to become a professional for the first time in my life, but previously I always did dead-end jobs. Now, when I'm forced to wear slacks, dress shoes and a blazer, I get treated like a different person and receive all kinds of compliments, which really caught me off guard for a while. I used to dress like a slacker, e.g. chuck taylor shoes, ben davis pants, band shirts, etc. That was a huge mistake because it reads as both low-class and poor. But it was what I felt comfortable with because I was poor. Now I believe that we older guys should dress at the top of our professional requirement, not the bottom. So, if you're a professor, you could wear a bland shirt, jeans and even sneakers, but it's better to wear a nice button up shirt, nice pants (even if jeans) and dress shoes, and always wear some type of nicer jacket instead of something casual and cheap.
My first steps in dressing better as an older guy (About 36) was a simple 4 item for item swap to start of with. Sneakers for Brown Brogues, T-shirt for a tucked in button down Shirt, Hoodie for a Navy Blazer, Grotty old G-Shock for a Dress watch (Preferably the strap matching the shoes and belt). It's amazing what these 4 little changes does to your overall outlook, from Ultra Casual to Smart Casual in about 5 minutes.
Well said! It’s important that we O.G.’s look good. Your point about those of us who are starting over and the need to look professional is extremely important, even in a very casual business environment. I’m in accounting and finance. My co-workers wear polos, jeans, chinos & sneakers in the office. I wear wool dress pants, button down oxfords, and polished wing-tips or other leather dress shoes. It makes a difference. People take you seriously. Because you look successful. Thanks for your videos!
Since watching this this channel I find my first reach for pants is chinos instead of jeans and sometimes I want to wear a suit for no reason. Jeff another video knocked out of the park. Yes older men need to dress up and care about their appearance. PEACE AND BLESSINGS OG.
Growing up I knew a short few people like that, always so well dressed. That it was even odd later on as time passed when I happen to see them in something more casual. It was like man your not on your style game today, what’s up with that. Funny how that is. But yeah they had respect and style game respect.
Hey man love your style videos as teenager I love warm or cool colours but my peer wear those bright or weird (for me ) patterns which think is kind of over the top and they say i have a style as a old man so my question is if I wear those example plain brown sweater instead of hoodie or leather jacket does that make me everyone else I'm playing dress up?
One of you best commentaries yet maybe because I really needed to hear that I'm starting a new chapter in my life and you sounded very sincere and passionate about what you were saying . THANK YOU I NEEDED THAT.
I can recall a while ago going into a pub and going up to the bar. I was casually dressed. The barman said what can I get you mate. A few days later I went to the same bar but this time I was dressed in a sharp suit and the same barman said to me what I can get you sir!!!! Never underestimate the power of the suit. Proof your video is spot on. Well done Jeff. Salute.
Excellent insight into how it’s harder to pull off casual - a suit, even a blazer, is like a uniform: most of the work has already been done, you just gotta add your badges and medal ribbons (so to speak)
Keeping this in mind as I turn that corner age-wise and look to revamp my look as my grind hopefully continue to birth more fruit I can build with. Thanks OG, Philly represent!
The Style O.G. is on point when he talks about women. He knows more about women than I do. I've been basically a bachelor all my life, and I'm in my mid-50's. Big-ups to the Style O.G. Peace
As I got my first child and life became more busy I switched from dress shirt to polo and sweater to save time. Later when all children moved out or got self propelled I found myself still in that polo and sweater. Now I've stepped up the game and feel more confident. Thank you Jeff for your guidance and inspiration.
This is much needed advice. When you dress up it puts you in a different language. You look more leveled up and ready to take on the world. Plus you're teaching the up and coming generation how it should really be done.
Great video. I'm 57 and I play tennis regularly. I notice my tennis buddy who is a couple years older dress up for the court with a polo versus a simple wokout shirt. I started dressing for my mixed double matches.
Subtle Elegance is the focus for the mature gentleman. You hit this spot on w this video. Dressing up or “better” will always speak volumes without saying a single word...;)
I think you should always dress well to address the world outside leaving your home going anywhere. Exception when your more casually dressed down to go to the gym or park for exercise mindset. But the world outside your door is a constant battlefield. Dressing up and doing it well is that suit of Armor you battle the world in which boost your confidence and aura of presence. You don’t step on a battlefield with your armor at home doing you no good. In Ages past a Knight of worth always had that glorious Armor well kept, ready and was always in Armor ready for battle. Such is a kind to leaving ones house to go anywhere or to longer there being in your Armor of refined well dressed look and appearance. Especially if it makes you feel better doing so. Salute to you too and polish that daily look. You just never know what will happen so be ready.
"Manners maketh man", while "Purpose maketh greater men" and dressing up to show that we are in pursuit of a greater purpose is quintessential. Thank you brother Jeff....Salute!!!
You really nailed it! Stepping out the door as a new man. Dressing up as to just throwing something on. That was the old me. With your excellent works and wisdom. I think 💭 I got this, Ty. 😎👍🏼
I totally agree with you. All important points. The one that hit me the most is when you said that dressing up shows people you are on your purpose and still care. That's why I visit my dentist every 3 months and whitened my teeth every six months. I will now have to get back to clothes because I did seriously leave that out! Great video! Thanks
When I was a younger man, I never had much interest in style. Now that I am in my early 50s, I feel it's time to dress better and reflect how I feel about myself- confident, positive, vibrant, mature. Your advice is helping me get my style together. Thanks! Al
I can always count on an O.G. video to make my day better, no click-bait, no BS, just positive vibes and excellent advice. There are style icons, then there's the style O.G., keep em coming Jeff, you are invaluable. Salute! P.S. Idris, Denzel, and the O.G. always look fly
Another great video from the OG I restarted my career at 57 and what set me apart from the the other interviewees was the fact I was dressed appropriately for the position and it gave my confidence a boost not only knowing I had pitched myself with the necessary energy but also how I presented myself had “ worked “ Do not underestimate the power of being well dressed especially for us OGs
Style O.G., you are, well, amazing. Seriously. You are doing a service to humanity with these videos. Middle School and High Schools should invite you to give talks like this, so you can inspire people to be better at being themselves, better people, more responsible, willing to serve themselves and others with confidence, grace. I seriously think that this could help in battling modern, sad problems like depression, anxiety and many other maladies if young people, especially men, had someone like you talking to them. I am glad your channel is popular. Please keep up the good work. God Bless.
As an older man, I agree wholeheartedly. I work as a bouncer/doorman after leaving the business for years. I wear a full 3 piece suit. I honestly makes my job 500% easier and I am treated with MUCH more respect. Also, the ladies NOTICE!! 😀
My dad, his brothers, cousins, and high school buddies were the suit and tuxedo types. Their suit pictures go back as far as the 1950's then to the 60's up to present time. Their whole lives basically is about wearing nice clothes with nice watches, shoes, and cars. I try copying them but I could never do justice on that part. I just watch videos like this one and I do learn a lot.
Yeap! I can surely and unequivocally say, I’ve been of a few dates met on dating sites where when I showed up, I was leagues beyond out dressing my female date. I felt totally in the power position and she wasn’t that dressed to show up. She was clearly impressed, but I considered seeing her again mere moments after I had real life met her. Few things she said after initially RL meeting seeming mattered. A mere moment was all it took in how she was dressed. That is a harsh lesson in life and reality.
My father always instilled this in me from my youth. The first outfit he put me in out of the womb….was a full, three-piece suit. My father played no games when it came to physical presentation, especially when I traveled to work with him in NYC on my summer breaks. “Proper presentation prevents piss poor performance.”
I stopped caring for a minute. That was a mistake. I have stepped it back up. Thanks to you, Antonio, Raphael and a couple others for these specific type of videos. 🙌🙌🙌
Jeff, this video is on the money. Before COVID-19 I would always leave a blazer at work. Just in case for after work functions. I’m ready. My blazers are my go too now. I like your pocket square. Salute to you for keeping us older guys looking good. 👍🏾
Terry Drums is most definitely on point with Steve Martin's quote.I've seen much older men and men my age (not telling my age)wearing younger generations clothing.I'm like really.I have to admit.I do pick at men about that a lot.Not trying to set fires. But advising that it's time to let go of their youth. You lived it.Now it's time to move on to the next phase in life.A man can still look good in jeans and a nice shirt.Nothing wrong in dressing casual.
Sir I definitely agree! I have a few pair of shoes that I've been wanting to wear I have slacks and blazers that need to be worn I just hit 40 not too long ago I'm ready to go!
I have a younger coworker. He started " Dress Up Thursdays" . That's when we have our weekly staff meetings. Everyone loves it because we show up decked out! His exact words to me " You're a Highly Thought of Supervisor in the company,........ Dress like it SOMETIMES!" Been doing it for the past 3 months
I agree with you entirely. At 70 I dress up and the compliments from women of all ages abound. I also agree people don't think you are over dressed. They see it as being appropriate for a senior adult to do so.I don't wear full business suits because that might be pushing things a little. Obviously I'm no longer in the business world. But blazers, and sport coats I absolutely enjoy pairing up with contrasting pants and accessories, especially hats! I have many Fedoras, Trilby's, Pork Pies, and Flat Caps. No Baseball Caps. Not the look I want. Thanks for the video. You had good points and advice!
I would just like to say you always have great advice. You bring a lot of things back to memory that some of us older guys have probably forgotten. So your input is always welcome. And brother you have one of the best channels on UA-cam for men.

I agree 💯. I am an older gentleman and I love dressing well.
Great topic 👍🏽
Glad you think so!
"Manners maketh man", while "Purpose maketh greater men" and dressing up to show that we are in pursuit of a greater purpose is quintessential. Thank you brother Jeff....Salute!!!
Salute Paul!
Thanks
No problem Mark!
When I was a younger man, I never had much interest in style. Now that I am in my early 50s, I feel it's time to dress better and reflect how I feel about myself- confident, positive, vibrant, mature. Your advice is helping me get my style together. Thanks! Al
Salute Al!
True words my brother.....true words.
I always say "dress for your surroundings."
But as a guy over 30, I definitely believe in dressing up... 🙏🏾
No doubt
OG much respect... the best channel of its kind for sure.
Yes Style OG you've made the point we've achieved financial success. Dress for Success, we have arrived. Good Quality
Victor!
All truths spoken here. A great reminder (and motivation) for always looking your best. Salute!
Always!
I can always count on an O.G. video to make my day better, no click-bait, no BS, just positive vibes and excellent advice. There are style icons, then there's the style O.G., keep em coming Jeff, you are invaluable. Salute! P.S. Idris, Denzel, and the O.G. always look fly
I appreciate that!
Another great video from the OG
I restarted my career at 57 and what set me apart from the the other interviewees was the fact I was dressed appropriately for the position and it gave my confidence a boost not only knowing I had pitched myself with the necessary energy but also how I presented myself had “ worked “
Do not underestimate the power of being well dressed especially for us OGs
Tell em Michael!
God Bless.
appreciate the kind words !
So true. The better you dress the more confident you feel
Truth! Especially the shoes. Even if you get everything else right, then put on some busted down shoes, the rest is a waste.
True!
If a man pays attention to his shoes, it means he pays attention to many other things in his care. So totally agree.
This brother ain't no joke. I appreciate this video. I love to dress!!
I appreciate that!
YES Jeff, dressings up the way Go people take you more serious, i have try and found it work all way. HooYah Big jeff it works
Salute Cuthbert!
Great job!
This is a great video for me. Once again thanks.
No problem!
Jeff, this video is on the money. Before COVID-19 I would always leave a blazer at work. Just in case for after work functions. I’m ready. My blazers are my go too now. I like your pocket square. Salute to you for keeping us older guys looking good. 👍🏾
Glad to help!
Well said Jeff, OG’s can show the world we still cut it and age is just a number.
Yes Sir!
Just came back from a pre Earthstrong shopping trip.
I saw this top and it just wouldn't leave my mind.
So I had to go and get it..
Opening day
I have a younger coworker. He started " Dress Up Thursdays" . That's when we have our weekly staff meetings. Everyone loves it because we show up decked out! His exact words to me " You're a Highly Thought of Supervisor in the company,........ Dress like it SOMETIMES!" Been doing it for the past 3 months
I rewatched this vid today. Just because I had to find it and send it to a friend. Salute!
Salute O.G. Keep us men fashionable brother.
Always!
I would just like to say you always have great advice. You bring a lot of things back to memory that some of us older guys have probably forgotten. So your input is always welcome. And brother you have one of the best channels on UA-cam for men.
That's the best Advice I've gotten in quite a while.
Thank you Jeff.
No problem!
