BB King said, I play Blues in sentences, but Stevie Ray Vaughan plays them in paragraphs. That's about the highest praise you can get there. Thanks for the reaction man. It was the correct one
Imagine the endless hours of dedication and practice. You don't just walk up there and do that. You gotta put lots of time and hard work in, and raw talent doesn't hurt.
SRV didn’t merely “play guitar”... he channeled the universal essence of the Blues through his spirit, down to his fingers, and out to us mere mortals.
Everytime Stevie goes behind the back, it's so fun to watch jaws just drop in awe. 30 years he's been gone. Imagine the music we've missed from him. Be glad we have these videos to remember him. RIP Stevie.
Jesus has reasons for everything. Stevie Ray had just cleaned himself up from drugs and alcohol, and was on his way to superstardom. Jesus had other plans. When Stevie Wonder sings at your funeral...you know you made an impact on music!
Could you imagine having to take the stage AFTER him? He was an opening act for years. He blew away the headliners night after night. Who could follow that??? He was the GOAT 🐐
Dave The Dudeist and now for your listening pleasure, please welcome to the stage....DAVE THE DUDEIST... Everyone goes to the bar to get drinks and talk amongst themselves. They did the same for me. Don't worry.
Stevie Ray Vaughan's whole life was the blues. He is in both the Blues Hall of Fame and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Blues is highly improvisational, and he never performed a song the same way twice. Neither he nor his band mates ever knew exactly what he was going to do when he walked out on that stage! A round of applause for his band Double Trouble. No easy task keeping up with SRV! 🎸
It's true that Double Trouble never used a set list. Tommy and Whipper said they never even thought about it. Stevie hit those strings and away they went.
Rest in Peace, Stevie Ray ~ died in a helicopter crash in heavy fog at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin just 40 minutes away from me. Couldn't get more tragic. His brother Jimmie found Steve's necklace at the crash site the next day. He will be forever missed, but we are so grateful that so much of his playing was recorded. You were the best, SRV.
My sister is 1/2 hour from Alpine. Breaks our hearts to this day. I am a Louisiana native. My daughter was born on the first day of his last set, Aug 25. My niece on the day he died, Aug 27. He shares my father's birthday...and there's a lot more I could say on synchronicity...suffice it to say...SRV has meant something to me since I was a youngster. I was 14 when he died.
@@xenoscoot That's pretty cool and special to be into the blues at 14. So you'll never think of your dad on his birthday without thinking of Stevie Ray also. Those dates you told me are Really something! It's a lot to take in. ✌️ 😥 EVERYBODY was greatly affected at the loss of Everyone on that helicopter, but I think it hits home more when you were a Wisconsinite, And you didn't live that far from Alpine Valley on top of it. Having seen the Dead there countless times, it's a very familiar place. We lost Stevie Ray in August of '89, and I lost my mother to cancer in October '89. She was 63 and I was 33. They all died too young. It must have been so devastating for Jimmie Vaughn, and think of it! Jimmie could just as easily been on that helicopter with his brother! What an awful thought. Heaven has one helluva band growing on the Other Side. 🎸😇🤺
Oh my God, I miss Stevie sooooo much. He was really a gentle soul and kept himself humble, which is amazing considering the amount of talent he possessed. I am happy to see the younger generation discovering him and keeping him alive. Good job, King.
The GOAT -- Stevie Ray was self taught and could not read music - played by ear - welcome to the rabbit hole - check out "Lenny" from this same concert, "Life Without You" from the Capital Theater, "Tin Pan Alley" with Johnny Copeland and "Ain't Gone 'N' Give Up On Love" from Live at Montreux in '85
I believe that this kind of talent comes from somewhere else and we are privileged to witness these artists channeling the music of the cosmos...RIP SRV.
I could sit & just listen to him play, not even sing, just play & be enthralled with his talent. He was such a talented musician who was taken from us way too soon. RIP SRV.
Watch him, it's truly a love affair with his guitar and the blues. He very rarely even looks at the audience. I love this man. There will NEVER BE ANOTHER LIKE HIM!
Eric Clapton remarked that Stevie was the best Player on the Planet & he also said ( paraphrased) "...He was like an open channel & the music just flowed through him...I can't do that, as I have to pause & think about what I'm gonna try play next...Stevie never had to do that..."
This is giving me a flashback. I was at this exact show. El Macombo in Toronto. I'll never forget it. Extremely hot summer day. There were some people fainting because of the heat and being overcrowded. I was one of them. I recovered quickly though and continued watching the show. I was so mind blown that I seen him again at Canada's Wonderland. Amazing talent that was taken away too soon.
Stevie Ray brought the blues into the 1980s. Fortunately for him he got to perform with all his blues heroes before he passed on. Stevie's guitar seems to be a part of his body when we watch at how effortlessly he played. No doubt God given talent with his own drive to play the music he loved. Rest In Peace Stevie.
The great Eric Clapton referred to SRV as an "open channel"..... there was just no end to him. It just flowed right out of him. Not written. Not scripted. Not time-constrained. Just PURE soul.
You spoke of his unique vocal vibrato... you *must* react to SRV w/ Johnny Copeland “Tin Pan Alley”... one of the finest blues performances of all time !
I'm a big fan of Texas blues and, knew who Johnny Copeland was before Stevie Ray was introduced by Albert King! I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan in 87 at the Ocean Center in Daytona! Tin Pan Alley by Johnny Copeland and Stevie Ray is one of the best videos on UA-cam!
Never got to see SRV live but I have witnessed and met Johnny Clyde Copeland at a blues fest in Davenport, Iowa. I was maybe 13 and eating at a table and he just sat down next to me with his guitar and started tuning it. He asked me what I thought it sounded like and he signed a program I had in my back pocket. Super great blues legend and at the moment, I had no idea who he was until my patents told me . great guy!
It's such a pleasure to see so many young Kings discovering and learning about SRV. He was a once in a lifetime. He channeled the music, he was a conduit. The guitar was an appendage, not just an instrument. Thank you for appreciating such a Master even though he would not consider himself such. 💗
I love seeing peoples expressions when they are thinking that this can't get any better, then they see him flip his guitar behind his back, and keeps on playing so effortlessly. He will forever be the GOAT
This version from ElMocambo was one of his very best versions of this song and argueably THE best blues guitar number ever recorded, period. I saw him play twice before he died and so glad I got to see him live. Nobody played guitar like Stevie, even Eric Clapton said so and Clapton once said after Stevie was done with his set and he was to follow "How am I supposed to follow that"??!!! SRV was one the very best players to ever pick up an axe, he made that guitar talk.
Love love love this reaction! I just sent this to my dad and he loved it just as much as I did. I had no choice but to grow up on a wide range of music because of my dad, and SRV and other blues heavy artists were played faithfully. Much love King, from myself and my dad!
Riviera Paradise live from Austin is mind-blowing! Also, Ain't Gonna Give Up on Love, and Life Without You ( both live from Capitol Theatre). Stevie could never read music and was entirely self-taught! He died at age 35 in a helicopter crash; this month will be 30 years since his passing but when you watch these performances, you can still FEEL his soul through his music.
