Just. NOTHING. Fits. Thanks Revell for burning my money. I see what Revell was trying to achieve though, but the brand just doesn’t seem to work. At all.
Ok long story. The kit tooling was in the design stage when Revell/Hobbico USA business went bust. Revell decided to cut its losses and release the kit as is. To credit Revell they updated the instructions to show the kit needed adjusting to build. They released the kit at to me a too high price for a unfinished tooling. However some Revell kits are known to be hit and miss. The 2000-2004 toolings are some of Revells best work. BV222, FW200 etc. The Revell Tornado IDS new tool is the best on the market, not an easy kit to build I agree but it's not aimed all modellers. At the end of the day you are a either model builder or a modeller If I want an easy puzzle thats just fits I get Tamiya. If I want to build a model I get Revell.
At the end of the day when I buy a kit and spend my hard earned cash I expect it to fit together not have to spend a lot of time and money on filler/filling then sanding. That’s all I’m saying, thank you so much for your comment and for taking the time to watch the video. I hope you hit the like, subscribe and notifications bell.
WELL SAID! People want easy fit, best fitting, etc, because they are lazy, and with luxury comes a price. Look at the price of a Tamiya. If all you want to do is assemble, than that is not modeling... its assembling. That's it.
With so many modern kits on the market that are known to fit very well, I just don't want to deal with the headache of ill-fitting parts. Modeling stops being pleasurable and starts being work when the putty comes out....at least that's how it is for me. Thanks for a great review.
I couldn’t agree more David, I wish someone on UA-cam had done a kit review/build review before I’d bought the kit. Many thanks for your comment and for watching the video it’s very much appreciated.
Your view on modeling one might as well be an assembler and not a modeler. When the putty comes out, that is when the real artistic craftsmanship shows and defines "Modeling". Otherwise, I would suggest get a job on an assembly-line.
Many thanks for taking the time to comment. I am a model kit builder and I spend what little spare money o have buying kits. I began to build this kit, and the first problem I ran into was the nose landing gear bay door piece not fitting and leaving a good sized gap to fill. That was the beginning because after that, I could not get the instrument panel and HUD into the cockpit and have the windscreen fit. I could not believe I couldn't fit the front canopy with the HUD in. I was so frustrated, and am considering buying the Trumpeter kit and putting the VX-9 decals on that. I have heard good reviews of the Trumpeter kit.
Yes I have had all those problems, I left the hud off and shaved the instrument panel down so I could fit the front part of the canopy. The rear part of the canopy doesn’t fit at all and I even had to cut a sizeable part off the bottom of the ejector seat to make that fit. It’s just a terrible kit, the worst I’ve ever built. I will take a look at another make of F-18 at some point.

I bought this kit for 70 bucks. It started out fairly well. Theeeeeeennnnnnnnnn, the fuselage fit problems began. Good grief, this was bad. To get the two halves of the trunk together, I had to use a darn vise and with lots of tightening! Then, to get the side panels on and then mounted to the wings, it was falling apart each time. Trashed it and was very upset. From what I’m seeing, the two-seater has one review. One review! That tells me this was not one of Revell’s better designs.
I have come very very close to trashing mine also. Maybe shld do a diorama of a debris field and smash it up big time. Thank you for your comment though it’s very much appreciated and thank you for taking the time to watch the video.

I have NO idea how some people here justify to themselves this level of neglect. "Well we're REAL modellers!" Shut up. There is no excuse why in this day and age we have to put up with kits with this low of quality. In the 1960's and 70's, whatever. There's a reason why I look over issues with kits who's tooling dates from then, and am fine with it as long as manufacturers advertise that. This Hornet is a brand new tool and it's FAR worse than a lot of vintage tools I've seen, and we're paying dang near Tamiya prices for it, and not getting anything to help add to the value of it. And what makes this so much worse is that we KNOW Revell can do better than this, look at the 1/72 Strike Eagle. I’ve pointed out the blatantly obvious so people can make an informed decision as to whether they’d like to buy the kit.
Every review, article, video, etc. that I have seen on this one all have the same word - awful. I build 1/32 modern milavia. but only by Tamiya, Trumpeter and Academy. I work too hard for my coin to buy something like this. NFW.
I have learned my lesson. I also love Tamiya, Trumpeter and Academy. I would also throw Hobby Boss into the mix aswell they are really nice kits also.
@@mikeMuppetmodeller thanks for mentioning hobby boss because I really want to get that new 1/48 growler.
They are really nice kits and go together really easily
I hope the 1/48 version won’t be bad…..:/
If ur building one I hope so too. …..let me know
@@mikeMuppetmodeller it’s my summer project :). I hope don’t have to modify or add filler for gaps….. maybe Tamiya or Hobby Boss also made this model…
If Tamiya or trumpeter made one I’m sure there would be no fit problems.
@@mikeMuppetmodeller obviously I am going to test fit first…. If am seeing too many fit issues, then I will go with Tamiya or Trumpeter
Fair play keep me posted
2:25 "CLOSE THE OPENINGS...WITH PUTTY ... AND SAND IT " hahaha ! is it this a KP kit ? I've got one in my stash with all PE from Eduard🤣🤣😂😂 still in the box. I brought this kit for 80 Eur ! I think Tumpeter would be better. Thanks for the video !
Its a Revell kit, I bought the Eduard cockpit PE and the ejection seat kit also. I think trumpeter, rye field models, Tamiya basically any other company would make this kit better. I’m really disappointed as I had some great ideas for a diorama for it but just feel like binning it to be honest.
@@mikeMuppetmodeller What about F-18 F or G from Trumpeter ? I think they are far better than the F-18 F from Revell newly rleased.
That wouldn’t surprise me at all, I think it’s just a better make full stop! I may have to look into getting one for Xmas
@@mikeMuppetmodeller well in my opinion you should finish this kit then get the Trumpeters F-18 to compare... what differences etc...
Sounds like a plan
My god how I hates this kit, it is truly a large pain to build. Nothing lined up, large gaps. And unclear instructions just to name a few.
Many many thanks for watching and taking time to leave a comment I really appreciate it.
I must agree with you on all points the fit is generally awfully bad but there are parts that leave a lot to be desired and as for the instructions I whole heartedly agree. All I wanted to do was throw it in the air and watch it smash on the floor
Lot of work on this build!
Yes mate a hell of alot of work, not what i was expecting i must admit.
Maybe they upscaled a 1:72 design to 1:32? Strange anyway.
Many thanks for your comment it’s much appreciated. I really don’t know what they’ve done but it truly is awful
Revell 1/48 scale F-18E is also a bad kit. The kit was my second kit being introduced back into modeling!
Hi Stephanie, many thanks for your comment and for watching the video. Thank you also for the heads up, I won’t be buying that one in the future.
@@mikeMuppetmodeller also Revell Tornado GR.4 Farewell edition and CH-53 GS/G are terrible fit overall
@@Deadmau5l Thank you for the heads up i will avoid them.
Revell has some really great models but most of their models have one issue and that is it's not fitting. It's a great brand when you're looking for something affordable to play around and experiment with but if you're looking for a really good model go for other brands like academy, meng, etc. Of course that's my personal opinion
I agree, I really like Tamiya but I saw this kit and was taken in by the box art etc. suffice to say I learned my lesson 😂, many thanks for your comment and for watching the video it’s much appreciated.
@@mikeMuppetmodeller You know the saying ,never judge the book contents by its cover equals never judge a model kit by its box art.,lol
@@amuxpatch2798 i do try not to, i like to build larger scale kits that's why i went for this one much to my detrement
Obviously Revell is unable to get a Super Hornet right.. I built theirs in 1/48 and it was horrible. Looks of it is a joke compared to the real thing.
Absolutely right, altho I was told it was my fault as I’m a crap modeller. I just don’t want to be filling vast casms with putty then sanding for the rest of my life.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment it’s very much appreciated
that's what modelers do, unless you just want to be an assembler.
It is Bradley but not with a kit this bad. Thank you for watching and commenting I really appreciate it
@@mikeMuppetmodeller , still enjoyed your vid though, and have subscribed, looking forward to watching more of your vids.
@@bradleyjones5932 thank you so much Bradley I do appreciate that and I hope that you like some if not all the videos. The B-17 one is the best one I think.
I bought the labeld "NEW" model. its a bit better than what you showed. But stil rubbish. You need a lot of filler and sanding to get the job done. Buy Tamiya instead. much much better.
Many thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Yes I think Tamiya would be much much better. I was duped by the box art etc but have learned my lesson (I think)
wow, thats the worst i've ever seen sir.... I already did academy hornet C type but never that awful. I do mainly 1/32 but have never seen so much putty on the vertical stubs, must be terrible gap there.
There was so much a gap it was more a canyon. Nothing fits it’s awful but I started so I’ll finish. I mainly do 1/32 but this is the worst I’ve ever done or seen.
@@mikeMuppetmodeller even the 1/32 old revell monogram ah-64a apache looks like walking in the park sir, comparing to your hornet. I guess we better stick to other brand for 1/32 scale. If you still have obssesion building an Echo hornet, better look for trumpeter brand, so far they are the best in moulding. and the last but not least, happy modelling sir !
Yep in future it will definitely be another company make for the larger scale kits.
@@henrytj7968 I am always well nearly always happy modelling lol. I don't think i will be buying too many 1/32 Revell kits in the future.
I bought the E & F, both were equally as bad, ended up snapping them in half and chucking in the bin.
Hi Steve thank you for watching and commenting and believe me I contemplated doing exactly that. My son though said he wanted it on his ceiling and wouldn’t take no for an answer so I finished it up quickly and that’s where it is now gathering dust.
They are that bad are they. I have never really been a fan of Revell.
@@zeroalpha7755 they really are that bad I’m afraid. I was really looking forward to the build and have never been so disappointed.
I will be steering well clear of those then.
@@zeroalpha7755 I would, maybe the smaller scale might be ok I don’t know. However I’ve just built a 1/32 P-51D Mustang Revell kit and it’s great, goes together really well.
Something like Revell's Twin Otter,frankly a shit!!
I haven’t seen that one but I can we’ll believe it.
Its shite?😂
Ive heard theres no such thing as an unbuildable kit!
Jman
No there is no unbuildable kit it’s just a very poorly made kit. If people know then at least they can make an informed decision as to whether to spend their hard earned money on it. And yes it is a bit shite but got to make the best you can out of it.
@@mikeMuppetmodeller
Thats true especially with FMs 1/48 halifax or halibag no other injected molded kit out there!😳
