I love my 2024 790 ADV, at least for the 2300kms I have on it so far. Very easy bike to ride with the low Center of gravity. Had all the features I wanted including fuel range, power to weight ratio, great gravel/off-road manners, tubeless rims, cruise, quick shifter, ride modes selected remain when turned off, comfort and protection.
Time will tell how it hangs together but it is a hoot to ride.
    Thanks for the review.

I bought one too! I ruled out the Suzuki because it was just a massive big bike. I really liked the T7 but it has a small gas tank and is pretty top heavy. The 790 checked all the boxes. Big enough to be comfortable. Under 475lbs and having it's low slung fuel tanks hides its weight well. Great ergonomics. Great gas mileage.
Balance is excellent. And plenty of power to pass at highway speeds.
I was willing to roll the dice and hope the one I have is reliable.

I'm right there with you. Only have 300 miles on it but man this Is a fun bike. I didn't need the more capable 890. I go through a lot of bikes and this one is hands down the most fun. Fingers crossed it will hold up. Cheers from northern CA.

I love the a la carte option choices from KTM. I really like the Suzuki 800 family of bikes but for me the lack of cruise is a deal breaker. If Suzuki made available an optional cruise for a few hundred dollars, they would be certain to sell more machines. The KTM a la carte optioning allows the purchaser to add features that are usually reserved for bigger, heavier and higher priced models from other manufacturers. Kudos to KTM for figuring this out.

The KTM 790 Adventure was the best for me. I have 3730 miles (6002 km) on mine so far. I bought it after an exhaustive search for a mid power sized Adv bike.
The bikes I compared it to were:
    - Suzuki VStrom 800DE: I liked this the most of the Japanese bikes. Tubed tires…
    - Honda Transalp: Felt cheap AND required the most additional modifications to make it off pavement capable. Surprisingly the most expensive despite the lower MSRP. Also complicated electronics compared to KTM and Suzuki. Tubed tires…
    - Yamaha Tenere: Low on power, but definitely a great bike. Tubed tires…
    - Aprilia Tuareg: not seriously considered because of lack of dealerships in the Pacific Northwest region of the USA. Aprilia seems like a novelty brand in my area.
    - CFMoto Ibex 800T: I strongly considered this bike, but it is far less off pavement capable than the KTM 790 Adventure (also built by CFMoto). The KTM has adjustable traction control whereas the 800 does not. KTM has a 21” front vice a 19”.
I did not consider any of the Triumph Tigers, BMW 750/850/900 GS, Other exotics (Ducatis or Moto Guzzis) - all far too expensive to buy new. Honda Africa Twin also was too expensive.
In the end, the KTM 790 Adventure was the best value, with the most features, and it had Tubeless Tires! My only concern was reliability and that has been excellent so far. KTM recently doubled the warranty to 4 years as well which helped alleviate the reliability concerns.

This is great information about all your choices and final decision. I ride my KLR. However, I'm in the planning stage for the "step up" for an adventure bike! I want the tubeless and cruise control. The KTM warranty is nice!

Great review! I will be transitioning from a naked sports bike to an adventure bike. I physically can’t stand a forward/over the handle bar type of position anymore.
This 790 Adventure really seems to be perfect for what I want to do now. Back roads, twisties, gravel and forest roads.
I’m really concerned about the reliability from KTM and that is making me hesitant. Between the camshaft saga, water pump leaks, etc, etc., it’s got to be factored in if you plan on leaving town.
A Honda Transalp is not as sexy and far from as much “hooliganesque” (I think I just invented a word 😂) from the 790 but with Honda, I’d never be scared that darn thing not firing up one morning.

    • @PeterLoweOne
      @PeterLoweOne  5 місяців тому

You can upgrade the suspension on just about any bike, but there is no factory option to do so, if you wanted better suspension, you may want to consider the 890 Adventure which shares many components, but does have an upgraded, adjustable suspension.

No point to about comparing this to a Versys 650 that's apples to oranges. The KTM is a true dual sport/adventure and the Versys is a street bike that looks like an adventure. With the Versys 650 its underpowered and you can't even get cruise control or any reasonably priced dealer options. KTM has many more OEM options available. Suzuki Vstrom 800 is heavy, low tech and under powered.

Yeah, you're paying European prices for a Chinese manufactured bike. Plus, that Chinese manufacturer is going to release a bike that competes with this for a lower price. KTM is just hoping you won't notice or be willing to pay more for the brand sticker on the side.
