People don’t realize that Brian May is a shredder. On their earlier stuff I’d say his guitar work was showcased a little more than most of their “glamorous hits” people usually hear on the radio…but make no mistake, the guy can really fly through the neck of a guitar and he is one of these most accurate guitarists I’ve ever seen
This was Brian's baby. Yes, Freddie sounded great on this (Brian gave him a great lyric too), but everybody shines here and the energy is infectious. The part where it's just drums and guitar and Brian kicks in that EchoPlex just floored me as a teenager and I had just started my first band (I was 14 when it was released). Thanks for this reaction! BTW: Does everyone notice the whistling at the beginning is the tune at the end of 'The Seven Seas Of Rhye' from the end of Queen II?
If you want total rock Queen then you need to listen to March of the black queen and Sheer heart attack (the track, not the album). Remember that this is all Brian May, Freddie had nothing to do with the composition of this song.
Queen were one of the original Glam Metal bands at least in the early seventies, Songs like "Great King Rat", "Ogre Battle" and "Liar" not like todays metal of course but pretty heavy melodical songs
