Best instruction ever. I don't have to listen to 45 min. about aunt Bessie's dog while trying to sort the 3 min. of actual instruction. Thank you very much.
The problem with many UA-cam videos is even though the information is great the videos are boring because they are too slow. I can get bored in less than 2 minutes. The reason why John and Matthias's videos are so awesome is they are never boring. No matter how long the video, you keep things moving at the right pace so I stay engaged and never bored.
Thanks! Much appreciated
John Heisz I wasn't bored at all. It's different for everyone.
Just a heads up: from now on I'm deleting comments that have the reply disabled. It's annoying as hell not being able to reply to a comment on my own video. If you want to comment and have your comment answered or not be deleted, fix your G+ settings.
Excellent IDEA!
LOL.. Isn't it though?
I have been looking at different designs of marking gauges and yours is the most practical and easiest. It would be even faster just to buy the dowel. Great video!
Without doubt the easiest and most practical DIY marking gauge out there. Thanks John.
SUPER! I really loved the cabinet behind you with the drill bits! Keep it up
Probably the best project about the marking gouge so far. Very easy and very effective
Your dowel cutter is awesome! Never would have thought to do that.
Very well done. I have searched for and found oodles of videos on how to make a marking gauge. Yours is by far the best. Simplicity in its purest form and works. No fancy brass or high dollar Bolivian mahogany or whatever. Good job!
John, I love how you redo these projects, now with live images. Your videos are so efficient, straight forward and easy to follow. Keep up the good work
Love it John. Short and and to the point. Don't know why it takes some guys 10 or 20 minutes to go through a simple project. Thumbs up. Thanks.
Very good nice
This is fantastic. Love the dowel maker and your way to sharpen the washer. Good quality stuff here.
I think this is the best marking gauge design by far. It is simple to make especially if you buy a dowel and the washer makes it work like the very-tas expensive ones. Thank you for sharing, I will try to make one for sure.
I have been watching a bunch of videos about the same project but yours is the best, simple, well explained and really easy to do. Thanks for sharing.
This guy is a clever dude. Ingenuity my friend
Beautifully simple design; much easier than others I've seen. Thanks
Perfect from start to finish. Especially enjoyed the dowel cutter. thanks again John.

I just made one, John!! Thanks, Took me all of about an hour, but I had trouble with my scroll saw and being slow as I am. But hey, when the epoxy dries I will give it a try, Looks really good so far. Thanks so much for all you do!

Cool and easy dowel cutter john. Great vid two. We'll done
John i tuoi videi con i tuoi lavori sono sempre molto belli.
Very clever so many thanks.
Really easy looking project nicely done
Wonderful video John. You provided a 2 for 1 today: Marking gauge & Dowel Maker. Very cool trick with the washer turned cutting wheel. Your gauge is certainly as effective as the ones from Veritas, and much less exspensive. You just added another tool project to my summer shop work. Thanks! :-)
Impressively simple design :)
Great video John,
That looks like a handy tool that can easily be made in an afternoon.
Regards,
Bob
Thanks for the perfect idea. I was planning to make my own but haven't decided yet what kind of marking gauge I'll do. Now I have decided to do this one. Keep up the good work Sir. :(
Thank you John, I'll make one tomorrw.
Just a thought ! You could use the wheel of an old tin opener or even an old glass cutting wheel They are a lot harder than a sharpened washer and will last longer!
Great way to make a dowel. Never had seen that before. Your video is very good, no music, no double speed playback. You could have cut out a little less so the video would be longer. But that is just for entertainment to give longer pleasure watching this. You show all steps in sufficient detail. Didn't you want to harden the washer after putting the edge on?
Thanks! now I gotta make one of these!!
Very instructive as all your videos. I'll make one in a few days.
Thanks John.
Muy instructivo como todos tus vídeos. Me haré uno en unos días.
Gracias John.
john very good, I just made one, thank you very much for the idea and the video.
I love the photos that you take your work, mounting the scene, lighting, etc, very good job in this aspect too. Great photograph!
Thanks and regards.
Nice work on the videos. Great to watch and reminds one what we can do.
Excelente trabalho! Obrigado por compartilhar mais este projeto!
I need to make one of these! I like your version very much! Adding to my to do list! :) Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
Excelente vídeo meu amigo! Parabéns e, muito obrigado.
Realy nice idea. Must make one :)
Fantastic!
Very good! Thank you!
great idea ., i'm in the market for one , i thought i'd check out youtube before, thinking of buying one . now i'll make one , thanks for the vid .
Nice work. Thanks.
I liked the marking gouge a lot, but even more so I enjoyed editing style. I usually find almost all the videos on youtube too slow, as if its intended for kids (im talking about woodworking videos). Yours on the other hand show every step but 5 times quicker. Subscribed
Great video.
Yes, I enjoyed it! :)
Thanks. I will make this project tomorrow.
Parabéns John muito bom.
Very slick.
Veri good.Thanks for your videos
Thank You for this video.
Amazing!!!
tem diversos vídeos de construção desta ferramenta, mas você inovou e simplificou muito bem, parabéns...
Nice one!!!
Hi John, I have a similar belt sander setup but the cheap B&D sander is held perpendicular to a base. I find it handy to have that extra reference to square and makes the B&D perform like a higher precision unit.
Your sharpened washer reminds me of the blades on a tube cutter. I wonder if you could use a replacement tube cutter blade instead of the washer.
great master of wood
Das ist ein schönes und nützliches Gerät. Darum werde ich es mir nachbauen. Viele Grüße aus Köln. Super Video!
Nice job!
Nice one john!
very nice!
I really like that
Gracias, ya fabriqué el mio y lo utilizo mucho.
Excellent tutorial. i need a coulpe of those and i will build them.
How about using a slightly larger dowel, chiseling a recess on it and sticking in an adhesive ruler?
nice and simple which is good... I have four of the darn things so don't need another, but if I did I would use your design
