I always thought of it as Deans hunger, or the thing that he wanted most was to not feel anything. He craved the feeling of numbness so much that thats what he got when Famine rolled into town.

Carver destroys the show again. Canon keeps changing. 1 week vamps do one thing the next week it's the exact opposite.
Pilot John hunted cause he loved Mary. John and Mary are only together due to Cupid. No mention of hate or love. Mary coming out of a theater bumps into him, they flirt, etc.

@@JohnWinchester3567 to be fair, it's hard to keep the lore straight with 15 seasons & 4 different show runners
Carver was on Supernatural from s3-11. Dabb was on SPN from s4-15. _But_ like half of the OG writers room was gone by s9 or 10 & _everyone_ (except Singer & the Bucker/Leming duo) was gone by the time Dabb took over.
The main writers for the Dabb-era are Buckleming, Berens, Dabb, Perez, Yockey, & Glynn. Except for Dabb & Buckleming, they all joined between s9-s12.
Of course the vibe of the show/characterization would change a bit, it's practically a whole new writers room, they're going to have different ideas. The only vetern writer by s12 _was_ Dabb (unless you count Buckleming, who were with SPN from s7)

I think the intensity of each brother’s situation varies depending on the seasons and the plots, but ultimately, neither one’s trauma diminishes the other’s. While all us fans have our favorite Winchester (and find it easier to sympathize with them), both Sam and Dean go through an immense amount of unfair suffering.

See, since you’re watching Euphoria, you guys can see where Davion is coming from now. Addiction is a disease that can’t be solved unless you choose to do so. It’s literally a choice at the end, whether or not to get clean and stop chasing the addiction. You’ve seen the lashing out and manipulation of Rue and all the people she’s hurting in her life. One of the hardest things someone can do is to stop helping an addict.

But y'all act like Sam's addiction is his fault, and the blame lay upon him for the consumption of his vice. But Yellow Eyes is the one who brought this addiction to Sam. Although, it was actually preordained to happen according to the Angels. He never had a choice in his addiction, it was made up for him so as to start the apocalypse. It's like blaming someone is a born addict.

The addiction did not exist until Season 4 when Ruby convinced Sam to drink demon blood for the sole purpose of getting revenge on Lilith. So, in fact, there is some culpability on Sam's part. I'm not saying he isn't deserving of sympathy, but he's not exactly being scrutinized for sainthood.

@@FLQueerLiberal1982 My problem isn't with his desire to defeat Lilith, it was his reason for it. Revenge is hardly altruistic and if he wasnt blinded by that maybe he wouldnt have found justifaction to drink demon blood, because i can never find a defense for drinking blood, demon or otherwise.
Everyone seems to put Sam on a pedestal...he's the more sensitive and understanding of the 2. I love Sam, but he is the far more selfish one. Dean may be crass and appear to be cavalier, but these are defense mechanisms. When Dean reflects on something that he and Sam both had to go through, he's more focused on how it affected Sam. If there was a choice between exacting revenge and keeping loved ones alive, he chose those he loves. I know Dean is not a Saint either, but when Sam suffers, you can see the pain that Dean feels for Sam.

@@yearofdiscontent4936 you just did a whole lot of victim blaming bro. Sam was manipulated into believing he was just killing lilith. • @yearofdiscontent4936
      @yearofdiscontent4936 2 роки тому +1

@@tangledjared9023 Dean just spent 40 years in hell being tortured, allowing Sam to die human was probably the only thing Dean could think of to save him from that. As far as victim blaming goes, Sam and Dean are both victims and they are also both partially responsible for getting to that point. I can sympathize with Sam's addiction, but if you go back to season 4 finale, Ruby told Sam she didn't have to do anything, she gave him the options and he made the "right" one every single time. When Sam was told - by a demon - that the only way to kill Lilith was to drink demon blood, then it was time to walk away. Revenge wasn't bringing Dean back, but going down the road of drinking demon blood would certainly make Dean's sacrifice to save Sam a waste. By the way, the torture Dean suffered was his fault for choosing Sam's life over his, but I still sympathize with him. Just because they suffer, it does not absolve them from their actions.

I think the argument of who has it the worst between Dean and Sam depends on each person and who each person relates to more. I definitely relate more to Dean as an older sibling and as someone who has had to take care of everything and have the weight of the whole world on my shoulders. Because of all that, I agree with Dean having it "the worst". Does that mean Sam doesn't have it bad either? No. Sam is a sweetheart and life dealt him a bad hand. Plus he personally made bad choices of his own cognizance. But I've had wayyyyy too many people in my life making THEIR problem my problem whether it's intentional or not. So I see things more from Dean's POV. Nathan and Cam just relate to Sam more probably. And that's perfectly fine.

    • @thegeekoutgirl

As someone who has had family members with tons of issues, I don't blame an addict for becoming an addict. The fault lies on who tricked them or coerced them. However, I do blame an addict for continually remaining an addict and refusing help to stop their addiction. I can stick around and provide support and help all I can, but if a person doesn't want to be helped, there's no future there. For Sam's part, I love that he grew and learned from his mistakes and is constantly trying to better himself. He knows his addiction was bad and is obviously fighting to be free from it. If that's not worth looking up to, I don't know what is.

It's so weird, but oddly humorous to see Cas eat like this, or just eat in general. Dude was really hungry.
Cupid was hilarious, what with his nude hugging spree: 3 in a row.
Famine is a huge fiend. Him and S4 Sam would get along real well, back when he wasn't thinking rationally.
Poor Sam, being forced to go through all this demon blood bs all over again.
Dean practically begging for help at the end was truly heartbreaking.
This is why I agree with Davion. Don't get me wrong, I obviously like Dean more as a character, but that doesn't mean I'm discrediting Sam in any way. I don't think they should be compared, but I believe when one brother goes through something immensely painful, the other brother goes through as much, if not, a little less pain than the inflicted brother, but never really more. It's usually like 55% - 45% when it comes to that point, with the majority being whoever's going through the pain.
But at the end of the day, it'll always be Team Winchester. In the endgame, these two brothers always look out for each other, no matter what pain either of them may or may not be going through. Because that's what true Winchesters do.
Nice reaction, guys! Can't wait for the next! 💯🔥

I understand and sympathize with both sides of the argument at the end of the episode. I genuinely do feel for both Dean and Sam. However, to expand on Davion's point, Dean thinking about helping/protecting his brother all the time, that's not just because of the demon blood addiction, which needs to be considered as Sam's completely valid struggle. The thing is, caring for Sam goes way, way, way back. Dean raised him. Basically, Sam is both Dean's brother and kid. And it's been like that since Dean was four years old. Four.
Now, it's not only that, but also his forty years in Hell and one horrible, impossible situation after the other, nonstop. Even if we can argue that they both go through these situations together, Dean still feels like it's his responsibility to make everything right while believing he does not "deserve to be saved." Cas picked up on this since they met, and thankfully he gets Dean to talk about it more freely. Dean has one ugly tangle of self-worth issues, and now Heaven itself keeps knocking on his door, revealing that his perfectly in love parents, a childlike solace that's kept him afloat (Mary's regarded as everything that's good and pure and is the equivalent of the word 'home', John is... well, it's unrealistic for us to think that Dean would/could separate the love/hate he has for the man), was fabricated as a part of some godly plan that will end in him and his brother killing each other. At the end of the day, Dean and Sam both are the heroes of the story, but Dean is also the parent. Parents put their kids first, of course he doesn't think of himself. He literally never does.
Plus, I think it's worth remembering that, historically, Dean was always the one who stayed. He didn't go find his own way like Sam did by running away to Stanford and trying to get out of "the life" (which, again, I fully support). Dean didn't have the choice because, in his mind, there simply wasn't a choice to make. This man's put family first since memory serves him.
Sorry, this is just me spilling my Dean feels, but I don't think it's fair for either brother to be cornered for what they're going through or not on this episode alone. No, Dean is not the one suffering from withdrawal and dealing with that specific addiction, but that man's suffering regardless, and he's been having a rough time for a long time.
PS Famine and the episode climax focusing on Dean speaks volumes.
PPS Sorry this got so long. Please don't think I'm taking credit from Sam, I'm not. There are several things that could be added to Sam's case, but see, this is a UA-cam comment and I'm just helping out a fellow Dean stan.

I understand that Sam was fed demon blood by yellow eyes when he was a baby... That was not his choice or his fault. But if you think back he lived years apon years without it.. He did make the choice to start drinking demon blood with Ruby when Dean went to hell to get stronger to fight the demons and to be able to defeat Lilith... So it was his choice to become an addict...

Using Davion's crack addict example, they both have it bad.
You have the one brother having to deal with the consequences of the addict and be in emotional turmoil but all you see is the one brother who's on drugs as the only bad thing, no. You don't know if the one on drugs wants to stop and the problems they go through trying, but then maybe they get pulled back in and now what happens when they get sober, they have to deal with the consequences of what they did while under the influence and also how their loved ones now see them. They both have it bad but this example doesn't really work with Sam and Dean because there are stages where they both go through periods of something really bad happening to them. It's like they take turns having a horrible life but with Sam, this is all forced upon him. Obviously being Michael's vessel is forced on Dean too but Sam is the one finding out his whole life he's been influenced by evil forces trying to turn him to the dark side and that he has to be the devils vessel and constantly have shit on his ass because of it. But Dean is, as we saw, literally dead inside so you can't say one trumps the other.

#TeamFreeWill that's the only team you need to be on at the end of the day. It just seems like Dean is always helpless and just up the creek without a paddle. Just one bad thing he has to deal with after another. Then, you also have to factor in Dean is the oldest brother so he always just feels like he must carry the majority of the weight of the world on his shoulders.

I've said time and time again, stop comparing Sam and Dean's trauma because they've experienced different things. However, there's nothing wrong with saying this one has it the worst or that one has it the worst as long as you're not comparing them. How I see it: physically, Sam has suffered more. Emotionally, Dean has suffered more. Mentally, they both have suffered equally. And yes, Sam is suffering because he's an addict and going through withdrawals and having relapses. But it's hitting Dean harder because: 1. that's not only his baby brother battling addiction, but that's also his child; and 2. there's nothing he can do about it other than locking him away and listening to him suffer through it. Therefore, it's possible for the person on the outside looking in to feel something more than the person that's actually going through something. Which I think Davion was trying to say.
Anyway, onto the episode. It's refreshing to see Dean immune to something, or in this case, someone. Usually, Sam is the one immune to any and everything, so to see Sam not be immune to Famine, but Dean being the one immune was interesting. Speaking of Famine, he was spitting facts. Humans do want more because they're never satisfied. And him telling Dean, after touching his soul, how broken and defeated he is and then adding, "Inside you're already dead," chilling. Although Sam had to come down from his demon blood high at the end, him using his powers finally resulted in something good coming out of it. But Dean begging for help? Heartbreaking. It also reminded me of when he did the same thing in the episode "Home" (1x09) when he called John because they were going back to their old home and Sam's visions were getting more intense.

About the first part I agree. But not with Dean having it harder.
I understand what you say, but is Sam who is lock in there having who knows what kind of hallucinations that break his mind after being, basically froced to drink the demon blood again, and after thinking he was over it knowing all it did to him. I still see it as, to say it somehow, "Equally Diferent" if you know what I mean. idk.

      @@sofialu226 Spoiler Alert!!!!
I'm not saying Sam isn't having a hard time dealing with his addiction and everything else that comes along with it. I just think the burden is more on Dean, which in turn makes it harder for him. Assuming you've seen all 15 seasons of show, think back to seasons 9 and 10 when Dean was dealing with the Mark of Cain. Wouldn't you agree that although Dean was physically suffering more, that Sam was emotionally suffering more because he had to carry the burden of watching his brother turn into something that he didn't want him to turn into? And therefore, it made it harder on Sam because he was put in a helpless situation where he didn't know how to help his brother, but at the same time, having to make sure his brother doesn't go rogue? It's the same here with Sam and his demon blood addiction and Dean having to deal with it.

      @@TBFC1985
      SPOILER:
No, Dean had it hard too because he was suffering from all that. Dean is the one dealing with that disire of killing uncapable of controlling himself at will. Specially being Dean, he was definitly suffering when he realized what he has done. The mark was taking over and Dean tried ti fight it. In the three episodes he was Demon!Dean it was different because Dean was compleatly lost and he wasn't suffering for it anymore. But when he is cure he is back to deal with the mark until Sam takes it out (after that, suffering for the memories of what he did during that time)
      "Equally Different"
Some of the cases I think the family suffers more is when, like Davions example the crackhead is not willing to work his adiction while their family tries all they can (not Sam case because he worked on it and got better, what happened here wasn't Sam's fault). Or when a grandmother or granfather has alzeheimer. Because the person with it can't feel sad of something they can't remember, while the family has to see that getting worst and see their family memember forget them.
In both Sam and Dean case they were loosing it without being able to control it, but they were still very concious of the process and what was going on, so they were suffering too.
like when someone is posses, if they are concious they would see themselves doing terrible things without being able to control themselves, but they are concious. And it may not be their fault, but is still in their mind. with Sam' and Dean case added the part that both started it to themselve, Sam first decided to drink the blood (not knowing what it would do to him beside the power). And then Dean accepted the Mark (without knowing what it would do beside the power). So it aded an extra layer of guilt being Sam and Dean the way they are.

@@sofialu226 I think you're misunderstanding me here, or maybe I'm just wording it wrong. You see it as equal, but different, and that's fine. But how I see it, it's more 60/40, or maybe even 55/45, than 50/50. Now, I'm not saying if Sam or Dean go through something that they don't feel that burden once they come out of it. What I'm saying is the burden would be slightly greater on the one on the outside looking in because he is dealing with his own emotions plus the emotions of the other one. Whereas, the one that went through something, would only be dealing with his own emotions. If that makes sense.

Plus, Dean was the shield to protect Sam from some of the darker aspects of their life. Remember the episode with the Shtriga and the flashbacks? Dean spent the time to make Sam mac and cheese, but because Sam’s a little kid he changed his mind and didn’t want it any more. What did baby Sam want? The last of the cereal that Dean was saving for himself since he didn’t get to eat any of it. Yet, Dean let Sam have it and went hungry that night (I think). Before I say anything, I want to say I am saying all of this out of complete respect and I’m not trying to be ugly about this.. I am an addict.. I have struggled with this disease for over 25 years.. addiction is a disease that effects your brain.. if you were to see an X-ray of my brain vs an X-ray of a completely healthy brain, you would see where this disease is eating away at the part of my brain that helps with will power, if you will.. having this disease of addiction doesn’t mean I’m just someone with character flaws who just chooses my DOC (drug of choice) over my family and friends and health/well being.. I went to rehab in 2020 and I have been clean for almost 2 years.. it is a daily struggle, but with the help of proper medication and help from my doctors and therapist, I’m able to fight this disease better than before I got help.. having this disease is literally like having a demon in your mind who takes over your body and choices and there’s nothing you can do to stop taking your DOC, but you’re literally on the inside screaming for help and hating yourself every time you go back to your DOC.. it took me getting into an accident where I flipped my car over twice and landed in a ditch, nearly ending my life, to finally get the help I needed.. I put my family through literal hell all these years.. they had to clean up my messes time and time again for over 25 years.. I would give anything to take it all back.. so they could live their life without having to worry about me.. now that I’m clean and drug free, I don’t hear from my sisters anymore.. one of my sisters literally has blocked my number.. I mourn for them daily.. but I understand why they want nothing to do with me.. so I don’t think it’s fair to compare the struggles of someone with this disease to someone dealing with someone with this disease.. they both have it really really bad.. I wouldn’t wish either situation on my worst enemy.. I wish you all wouldn’t comment on addicts in general by calling us “crackheads” and such.. it really hurts to hear that and just adds to the stigma around addicts.. that we are just a bunch of fiends who have a choice, but just always choose the wrong choice with no thought to those around us.. because I promise you, we think about our loved ones daily, and wish we could stop hurting them.. again, I say all this respectfully.. thank you for taking the time to read this.. I love watching you all have a good time watching my favorite show.. but I just had to comment on this one thing.. thanks again.. 🥺❤️🙏🏻

Nat, Sam chose to drink demon blood in the first place, he chose it because he wanted more power, yes, manipulated by Rubi, but it was he who decided it. then this turned into an addiction that, LET'S BE REAL, he's coping with pretty well.
Now let's weigh the burden of each.
Come on, grab a pen and paper and start listing each other's burdens, including the guilt Dean bears for the deaths of those he loved.
The scales are going to fall on Dean.
