Oh yes I’d take this over that Porsche definitely love the 8 series gran coupe.

Great review even though this is 2 years ago now ! I bought the 8 Series 840i M Sport (GC) this week - fully loaded with tech and sports packs and for the price, in my opinion great value. I chose it over the Panamera and others. But freaky as it may seem I replaced my Lexus RX 450h F-Sport with it. Performance and overall drive, motorway or city is superb - I can even get a mountian bike in the boot and if needed two more on the roof (using SeaSuckers) so ample space. Getting a 6 foot son in the back is also not as challenging as I thought vs the RX. Lets see how we get on !

I did the same 20 months ago, and replaced my 640d GC with a 840i GC, with 10 optional extras. My best car to date.

I did the same thing. Upgraded from a 640d GC to a 840i GC three years ago. I don't desire any other car..
Would definitely take the grand coupe, I saw a 8 series coupe this morning , and thought it looks too long,were as the grand coupe looks heaps better proportioned

Such a tiny Golf size boot for such a huge car.
BMW drivers only carry golf clubs and their small brains in the boot. Their Egos fill the rest of the car.
@@archer7716 only kidding. I had an E46 330D for a bit..spent 1000s fixing. Was a great car but ignored maintenance and abuse by previous owners meant I had to get rid of it god damn it. Apologies BMW guys..
Just traded in my 540i for the 840i grand coupe and take delivery next week, I am looking forward to owning and driving the best looking BMW currently in production
How is the visibility?

How's reliability been amd what's mpg like on it mate? TIA
@@raydonferrari1 it is a very good car , I’ve had no problems in the 2 + years I have been driving it and it certainly looks the part . It has the same engine ( 3 litre twin turbo) as the 540i I had before so the mpg is the same at about 24 for a lot of stop start journeys and high twenties for long journeys ,dependant of course on the weight of the foot on the gas pedal. I can recommend the car for reliability and comfort and it’s quick when you want it .
Chose a last of the line 640d GC over an 840 last year as I preferred the styling but now the 8 series is really growing on me and the value used is crazy. Three year old 840i GCs from a BMW dealer can be had for under 40 grand. There is nothing to match them for the money. Three year old 840i with a warranty or a new Golf Gti🤔No brainier for me!
Am I the only one who came to see the car and then found my eyes popping at the reviewer instead? She is probably ten years older than me but bloody gorgeous! Good review too!
I believe 840i is the perfect sweet-spot of the 8-series range
Agreed. It is fast enough for daily/spirited driving and it gets decent MPG as well. The V8 is overkill.

If I have a budget of owning a £70K plus with option to choose between Panamera and 8 series Gran coupe; It will be the latter for *elegant* design.

Huge discounts are available - it's a £50k car in reality and at that price it looks like extremely good value vs a Panamera

BMW has made some less than beautiful cars over the last couple decades, but this 4 door not only looks better than its 2 door sibling, but maybe better than anything BMW has done for a long time.
I hope 5 series on future like this especially head lamp and grill

Porsche Panamera?! I like girls with sense of humor.
It's a gorgeous four door but too wide and long to daily on the UK.
Imagine trying to park in a multi storey.
I dont mind the width, i hate the length.
I wanted a short 2 door version
Why would you want a large BMW as daily driver? Only possibly if you have a company car/ long commute and/or decent reserved parking space.
@@gamingster752why apologise.. dont mind if reply is constructive.. its nice to know BMW facts.. heres a couple of questions.. Are all BMWs designed to be perfectly balanced unlike Audis and does BMW and which is best BMW diesel for reliability or is it just down to servicing?
@@gamingster752 Cool and def agree but here on Isle of Man Road Tax would be stupid high for a 330i. Not same as UK, also no MOTs, and wirse MPG and many cars not serviced. I had an abused 330D but had to scrap it.. Still prefer BMWs to Audis
watch out for coolant consumption! I heard it's a serious problem on this model.
UK has brought the ban for combustion engines time line closer. Mr Johnson said the ban on selling new petrol and diesel cars would come even earlier than 2035.
People will only be able to buy electric or hydrogen cars and vans, once the ban comes into effect
Wonderful to look at, high quality presentation, beautiful sounds n the car is not bad too.
I like this car because it goes to places and keeps you dry in the rain. And cool in hot weather and you can put your shopping in the boot and it’s a very pretty colour I am going to buy one when I save my money from my paper round

Looks good, but back of that car looks like Vauxhal Insignia OPC mixed with Bmw and with Opel Insignia GSi, especially exhaust tips, diffuser and boot lid.

Will take it everytime over the Panamera but not over the coupe. That been said the Gran Coupe caters for a completely different buyer compared to the 8 coupe buyers and this is what makes this car so clever.

Gran Coupe over Porsche or 2 door. Though I would buy it used. Panamera is an awesome car though, again used for about half price or less.

Good looking??? Really??? Big Bmw fan, actually drive a six cylinder Bmw and it’s really ODD to hear that it’s a "good looking" one! This new generation 7 series & 6 series (or if you fancy, the 8 series) are fresh and comes loaded with modern gadgets, but the "good looks" went out of the window a LONG TIME AGO. I agree that taste is subjective, so is the styling, but a handsome majority have criticized this series in terms of styling which is not to be confused with the ever growing dimensions of the car.

EVERY BMW looks good compared to the new 7 series. I've always been able to understand BMW designs, whether or not I liked them, but the 7 series completely eludes me. How some of the best designers in the world looked at that and proclaimed "we nailed it", is a genuine mystery, to me. The interior design of the new 8 isn't as lovely as the 6, but the rest of the car is nearly perfect. A beautiful BMW that I think will age very very well.
Honestly, this car was built for American roads.
It's for Chinese markets. People over there are obsessed with gigantic Grills

This thing is just 2cm shorter than the 7 series?! I think this will erode the 7 series. Offers about the same room and looks infinitely better than the 7 series. 👍🏻

@@sowhat1273 Everyone has their preferences. If I was in need of a massive limo, and the choices were between the normal 7 and this "coupe" 8. I'd take the 8. Alas, I'm thankfully not in the market for such a land yacht.. :-)

I like the looks of the 8 series Coupe more than the Gran Coupe but after i sat in the back of the coupe I would probably choose the Gran Coupe instead

4 series gc mperf'd up is the one, 8 is way too big

Great solid review. BMW missed the target for me. Disclosure - love the 6 series, own the 6 series. So BMW replaced the 6 series with the 8 series and bumped the price too high for most. Fan of the 7 series but that grill scares me away for now. The slope of the 840i Gran Couple rear looks like a hatchback. Lastly not a fan of the pointed wings of the grill. Overall love the cockpit and the seats look luxuriously refined yet hugging at the same time. Hopefully BMW will learn from the lack of sales and give er some tweaks and give a relief from $100k US.

Different gravy to other BMW's and with you getting the 850i, you got big power under the hood as well, not that I'm complaining! It's a car to cruise in and enjoy the experience.
Very few of them about and ive had many comments on how good it looks.

You compare it to the Porsche Panamera, but why not the Mercedes AMG GT? It's the same segment and personally I think the Mercedes is a better option than the Porsche.
