“Four Coils” ..I’m sure there’s a comedy sketch in there somewhere?
Nice job though with good advice, and I’m going to do mine too sometime during the winter lay up.
Aha, class comedy Sir... and you're right, there's a pun in there somewhere!
This is my favourite of the recent projects, not sure why, it just seems a real bike. Old skool speedo drive though!
Yeah, love that old speedo cable drive.. simple and effective aye. And i agree too, the XJR is maybe one of the last great air cooled basic muscle bikes still on the road and not subject to daft "collector" prices, a bike you can afford, maintain and enjoy. We are the last generation that will ride bikes like these. !
What an awesome team you two make!!
Thank you so much Harold. we've had a bit of practice now..!
Nice job, mate. Hope you have some budget left in the end for those braided hoses. But then they are not always better - I remember changing them on my CBR 600 RR for racetrack use. No change from original, although everyone had insisited on changing ;-) Happy spice cake time with your tea, Günter/Nürnberg
Yeah, well at 20yrs old I would prefer to change the brake hoses as rubber eventually perishes, but you're right, they're often just a small improvement at best... enjoy your week there, ride safe!
@@Moonfleet41 Thanks, mate. The Honda's had something inside the black rubber, white, looked like a sort of Kevlar.
@@Moonfleet41 I'm sure I've read that internally the lines are identical and that the only improvement is that Stainless provides better mechanical protection for the outside. Plus they look cool and hopefully you never have to replace them again ;)
Hard to believe but the XJR actually looks small after getting used to seeing the Rocket on the lift recently. Nice that the bearings and seals came in a kit to save chasing down separate part numbers. I think Penny gave us a better view of the work than even you had Del. 😁 Cheers and big thanks to you both ! ❤👍👍
Thanks so much Rick, and yes, we found a great part company that puts all the bits you need in one box for a single price... makes it so much easier! Thanks also for the comments regarding the filming and editing, it really helps to know it's appreciated! Take care and have a great week there, D&Px
Who's ever get that bike after you will be a happy man,it will be like a new bike pal.
Thats the plan mate, a few friends have already expressed and interest, so no pressure aye..lol!
Great job on the bearings and the rest of the projects. I did all this on my 89 ZX-7 over the corse of 11yrs. It had 40K miles.
Cheers Dell been changing bearings that way since my grandfather showed me how and that's been a long time. Amazing what you can accomplish with just hand tools. All the best 👍👍👍
Absolutely and my Dad taught me the same way too!
Very nice job, you are like a skilled motorcycle surgeon! 👍 I own a 2007 Yamaha FJR 1300 but yours is the first XJR that I've seen.
Thanks Herbie, i beleive the XJR was never imported to America or Canada, which is hard to understand as they'd be really popular.
@ Yeah, I think they would be popular here as well
I don’t know why but I find bearings so satisfying after a change. Probably because they’re so important & well done PP, great camera work 👍🏻
Yes mate, important indeed, and so cheap for all that precision engineering that you trust your life with.. why not renew them if you're in any doubt..!
말로만고치는 기술자보다 언제나 묵묵히 수리에전념하는모습 멋집니다🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for your kind words.
Hi Penny and Del... thanks for the great video! Neat trick to warm up the wheel before putting the bearings in. I've seen folks cool the bearings in the freezer too. Nice to see the XJR again! Take care, dear friends. Be well and ride safe.
I've never been a great fan of the freezing of a bearing, I'm sure it doesn't do any real harm, but the sudden temperature shock from freezer cold being forced in to red hot can't be a healthy way to treat a bearing that you want thousands of miles from... they do tap in, just fine, at room temperature! Thanks for watching and your support, have a great week there, D&Px
@@Moonfleet41 a very good explanation - thanks and you have a great week too!
Engineering wise, I always see new bearings as a work of art (if not, they can go back!) The precision & fine tolerances you get for just a few quid is truly outstanding, so buy the best you can afford, every single time.
Well, having been strangely sensible for at least two minutes, I feel it's time to pluck a chocolate orange.
(PS. Cheap, unbranded bearings are machined from aerated pasta & always leave a nasty aftertaste. : )xx
Indeed sir, i only buy the very best i can find, Reeves on a good day or Greggs if im feeling flush... Bearings made from stale pastry are no good in the wet..!
Bonus points for making the Sped-Up audio sound like Galloping Horseys when you were driving out the bearing spacer. A close second to Coconuts in the Galloping Department.
3:24 Doubble glasses... never be too safe.
8:27 That 3pc Motorcycle Spindle Tool Set is neat... no link in the description for the 'Sealey Motorcycle Spindle Tool :- '
Yep, the brake lines still work, no cracks or other things or it would be on the maintenance to-do list.
Thanks for pointing that out mate, link added now... must have missed it in editing! Here it is: www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637192183/motorcycle-spindle-tool-set-3pc
I love your videos brother. So cathartic and informative. Thank you so much for the gift of them.
Thank you so much for such kind words of encouragement and support Liam.
Close call on the front fender almost jumping off your work bench at around 7:53!
Great job,.it just makes me feel that when I did mine I didn't do wrong 👍.
love your work, cheers from Mexico 👌
How kind of you to say Alberto, we're honoured our videos are enjoyed in beautiful Mexico!
Would it been a good idea why the wheel was out to remove and clean the brake disc, as seen as the calipers have had a strip clean and rebuild with new pads makes sense to clean disc too.
Great video, how often would you replace wheel bearings, if its sealed or needle bearing 😊
Generally speaking bearings are ok until they develop some freeplay, or other signs of wear, and as this bike is 20yrs old, and has had a couple of bearings completely collapsed, I'm going through them all for good measure!
Thanks mate, been looking forward to this one 💯👌
Thanks mate, enjoy.
I was starting to wonder what's going on. Del is putting dirty parts and a knackered tire back on the bike but then you explained why at the end of the video. I wish I had your heated workshop.
I have been working on the snow blower for 2 days in a very cold garage here in Ontario.
Now there was me thinking that ALL guys in Canada had huge log burners in thier garage that meant you could work all hours in a T shirt.... Love the Snow me.. but not hte cold.. !
@@Moonfleet41 There has been a few times when we wished we had a log burner in the house. When the electric goes off in a blizzard in the middle of winter and its -20c outside it does not take long for the house to cool down. The gas furnace wont work without electricity.
Love the Triumoh Rocket 3 Roadster, I have a ‘16 model. I’ll be watching with great anticipation when you start on it.
Already started on it a while ago mate.. ten videos already in the playlist... Here is the first one. ua-cam.com/video/fjgUGpmoXLg/v-deo.html
Was it necessary to change them? They looked fine. Great job BTW, nice and clean :)
The bearings had a fraction of freeplay so early signs of wear, possibly not beyond servicing it yet, but as the swing arm bearings collapsed so dramatically, I'm going through them all for good measure.
@Moonfleet41 and you have a good baseline when everything is done. Great job :)
Appreciated Dell! Cheers.
No worries mate, always good to hear from you.
Great video Dale
Thanks mate👍, Del
Hey my brother good evening and how are you..hope you and your family is doing great and as always great vedio and you sir do enjoy what you do best fixing you hobby
Good to hear from you David, we're fine here, and we're hoping you are too... we appreciate you watching, have a great week!
Let me guess!! You took a tire iron intended for removing old truck tire ring and cut it to use to remove bearing?? I have 3 of those here. LOL btw…. I did same thing on my 1986 1100 Honda shadow.
Yes indeed, in the famous words of Jimmy Diresta 'need a tool, make a tool'!
Lol!! Sounds like my dad… make a tool out of a tool!!
Did you put wheel on wrong way round? There’s an R marked on the disc?
The wheel only fits one way, the speedo drive hole is twice the size so it's definitely correct.
Your Father's Ball Pin Hammer came in very handy for the job! 🔨👍
Great job again Del! Any footage from the Rocket 3 shakedowns? Would make a fab vid!! Just saying. 😁❤✌
Sadly due to work commitments and the weather, I've not managed to get on a decent ride on it yet, but will be continuing with the project for sure!
👍👍
Good job like every moment to see you. You' re the "God" of our motorcycle without age. Thank you very much. I' m fan and french ( excuse my not improve english ) 😉👌✌ I' m searching for a Yamaha 900 XJS diversion. Is it a good idea to have ? Thanks for your answer. One more bicycle for me because I have a Triumph 1700 Night Storm. Just to have one more to make it well and have pleasure to ride on with my wife. Thanks.
Yes, the 900 Diversion is a very capable and reliable bike, not very high performance and not very exciting, but a great work horse for every day use, and very safe for taking the most important perons in the world on the back.. J'espère que cela vous aidera et bonne chance. Del.
@@Moonfleet41 Thank you very much. Have a nice day 👌
