  • The Fjällräven Ulvö 30 backpack is a really cool backpack for a minimalist travel. Coming in at about 2lbs/900g and made from a "waterproof" Bergshell®: 400D 100% polyamide. Watch me test Fjällräven claims.

    Great review! Thanks for taking the time :)
    I would like to point out though, regarding the waterproofing that Fjällräven offers, that it concerns rain and temporary falls into water - not the pressurized water jets of a showerhead :) With the angle of a shower head you get direct water pressure right onto the zipper - it actually gets in under the protective covering you were so happy about - which would never happen when you are out and about. Unless you decide to literally take a shower with your pack on... *shrugs*
    Love your attention to detail, though, and I really appreciate that you thought to test the waterproofing seriously - even if I will gladly point out that it would probably do great IRL despite your results ;)
    Thanks for sharing!!

    Thanks, great review: I had problems with the ‘waterproof’ fabric too. Fjallraven really needs to stop calling this fabric waterproof as it is very misleading. It’s better than G1000, but that’s like saying printer paper is more waterproof than newspaper. Nicely made packs, but no serious competition for the likes of Mystery Ranch.

    • @PatrickBonsi
      @PatrickBonsi  3 роки тому

      I completely agree. hopefully, they will take the feedback and design a less porous fabric, and add waterproof zippers.

    • @OpheliaNL
      @OpheliaNL 2 роки тому

      Agreed. Hate when companies say it's waterproof while they should be more truthful. A water repellant coating isn't the same as waterproof. And no bag will ever be waterproof anyway. Sure, waterproof sippers can help with the water-repellant coating, but after using it for a longer time you would need to re-apply some water-resistant coating again anyway. The only thing that can truly help to a certain extend is a waterproof bag that you pull over the backpack, but then it will look ugly as hell.
      I've used several gore-tex and gore-tex pro jackets while hiking and biking and even though they are great at keeping the water out during regular down-pours, really bad rain (like water from a shower) could potentially get into the jacket at some point near the sleeves, the opening near your face, or through the jacket if you haven't done anything to strengthen the water-repellant coating after it doesn't work as well anymore.
