- Jackson Browne performs "Take It Easy" with #TheEagles and #LindaRonstadt.
“Take It Easy” is a song written by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey. It was most famously recorded by the Eagles (with Frey singing lead vocals).
“Take It Easy” was The Eagles' first single, released on May 1, 1972. It peaked at #12 on the July 22, 1972 Billboard Hot 100 chart, spending 11 weeks on the chart that summer. It also was the opening track on the band’s debut album Eagles and it has become one of their signature songs, included on all of their live and compilation albums. It is one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. Jackson Browne later recorded the song as the lead track on his second album, For Everyman (1973).

LYRICS:
Well I'm runnin’ down the road tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind
Four that want to own me, two that want to stone me
One says she's a friend of mine
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
And take it easy
Standin’ on the corner in Winslow, Arizona
With such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me
Come on baby, don't say maybe
I’ve got to know if your sweet love is gonna save me
We may lose and we may win
But we will never be here again
Open up, I'm climbin' in
To take it easy
Well, I'm running down the road tryin’ to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover who won't blow my cover
She's just a little hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Come on baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me

1972, I was a young 20 year old buck living in Winslow AZ. I'm 72 now and that was probably my favorite time of life. Good memories.
So many great bands and musicians started between 1967 and 1977. Great time to go to high school and college. Disco sort of messed things up.
Wow..Eagles..jackson browne ..linda ronstadt...doesnt get much better than this!!!!
Jackson Browne was a flatmate of some of the Eagles and they were Linda’s backing band.
My mom is now 65 years old and she's a very strong woman but is married to my dad both whom have seen eagles in concert.
Jackson Brown wrote this song. He couldn’t come up with lyrics to bring it to the end. He gave it to the Eagles who they were friends. Well as they say the rest is history.😱
Yes and there's a statue of Glen standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona as well!!😂
Early 70's was the high water mark for being young and being in love. We could go to a concert almost every week. We would get a new song from these great groups like magic every week as well. Magical. 😅
This was really great to see. Not only is this the original lineup of the Eagles (Randy Meisner, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon), but that's Don Felder, guitarist extraordinaire in the back. Then Leadon does the lead guitar part -- pretty well, too -- instead of Felder. (Leadon played lead on the original song by the Eagles.) Add to all that Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne, and it was really great to see. What a show!
The talent on that stage… I’m gobsmacked!!!
The mid 70s were special in so many ways. Probably when we peaked as a society. It’s been down hill since .
And once 2000 hit…. The end.
Couldn't agree with more!!
The peak was around 1960, if you ignore the blatant racism of the time.
Thank you, Thank you!!! Yes Yes We all know that was when I was Born. Cheers. I like you too
yeah I peaked in the 70's also. things were so much better when i was in my 20's
OMG, Jackson Brown and Linda Ronstadt singing harmony and playing guitar on "Take It Easy" with the Eagles, and I've never seen this before?
I wish everyone could have lived through this period ("it's a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowing down to take a look at me"). Things were so different then, 1967-1972, relaxed, great music, and haven't been like that since. If you didn't live it, I'm so sorry for you.
I lived it, loved it! Best years ever!
It was the most turbulent period in American history since the Civil War, with many hundreds of bombings. But great music and still an optimism about America’s potential and destiny.
As one who was there, I second the notion that "the 60's" really extended from 1963-73, and the second half was better.
@@ArielKronman not only in the USA, but you can rightly lay claim to The Eagles - a great, GREAT band. ✌️ Hello from an old hippy from England (in my head & my soul, if not in appearance now). All that great music lives on, on vinyl, tapes, CD and now our grandchildren!
What a great time to be young and alive!
It doesn’t get a better to have all of them together on stage the best of the best the most talented group of musicians and vocalist of the 70’s no auto tune just pure talent ❤the music 🎶
Fantastic, true comment!!!!
You know you've made it when your back up singers are Jackson Brown and Linda Ronstadt.
I recall a post somewhere that the Eagles started as Linda Ronstads' backup band.
@@davidcalvin4215And Jackson wrote this song
@@Terry-lh8cn I don't think I knew that.
@@davidcalvin4215 Yes, I’ve read that in several places. Also I think that’s how Glenn & Don H met.
@@retired42002vz there’s mention of this in Sound of my Voice - wasn’t until I watched this incredible documentary three or four times that I realized how truly glad I was that my brother crushed on Linda when all his friends were crushing on Farrah Fawcett 😉🤫 Linda always came with the most amazing musicians / friends
Man, all that freakin' talent on one stage! What a time it must have been. So glad Jackson is still out there, playing and writing.
one wolf is not enough bro... I have had 5 over the years.. my wife and I raised our son with wolves.. so he understands family... he does.. no worries
one does not own a wolf.. if you think you do.. it takes a large fence to persuade them to stay... mine don't require fences.. they are family
I am a pacifist... but... reintroduced wolves actually shoot back down here in Arizona and New Mexico .. fukin amazing
peace 🙏✌☮🕊
I was just going to say that ! JFC!!!
The essence of country rock(^^)!!🎸🎧🎶☆
Tell Linda we love her. Tell Linda we still need her.
Regardless of your PD that now "flattens" your singing voice, LINDA, the world will always need you! ...Particularly those of Mexican descent and heritage, and especially these days, with Injustice still being so rampant and ruthless. Please know that you inspire me.
A PD "sister."
What a collection of talent on one stage.
Jackson Browne, I don't know if you even read these comments, but I just wanted to personally thank you for all those years and dedication that you've put into creating great music that connects with so many people.
I don't know why Don Henley didn't call you instead. Because I would have loved to have seen you all together.
I hope your life is still giving you happiness and joy, and all your families lives too. Peace..Joe
*HUGS*
I saw the Eagles on their first big tour; the opening act for Jethro Tull. No one knew who they were, and they come out with these impeccable, flawless live tight harmonies that the genre hadn't heard since CSNY.
Many people love their music, but I'm not sure how many people truly appreciate the talent, and skill, and hard work behind the perfection of their live performances.
And how great for Linda, and Jackson who were both an important part of the foundation on which the band formed, and flourished.
Bookmark this one, baby!
Wow, Jethro Tull and Eagles at the same show. I like a wide variety of music. Both the Eagles and Jethro Tull are high on my admiration list.
Another awesome comment!!! Thank you❤
Sumner of ‘77, 18 years old in the front row at Saratoga Performing Arts Center and saw Linda Ronstadt…
Just amazing!
The four best words in the English language: Jackson Browne on Tour!!!!
Seeing him with James Taylor in August.
I've got twice-rescheduled tickets for the tour with JT. My tickets are in October, and I hope my state gets its vaccination delivery shit together in time to allow arena concerts by then! (Will be my first time seeing JT live, four time seeing JB live. Four is not enough! :-) )
It won’t be long now...
Saw one of those. He played this song a little differently. I likded it
@Clyde Jackson Browne C J B, you are such a wonderful human being. God bless you.
Wow. Linda Rondstadt is so humble in this. She's the best singer out of all of them.
She was getting The Eagles started. She was promoting them pretty strongly.
i think she had to otherwise she'd have blown them all off stage lol
"Take it easy", take me back. Not enough Jackson and Linda.
I was waiting for Linda's verse!
@@cleawox: I was waiting for Jackson’s part since he wrote the damn song.
I hate their parts they added
Imagine being in that audience and witnessing history
imagine one of those making a comment on here,"hey thats me"
Randy Meisner killing it on vocals and bass
I always liked Meisner much better than TBS. As much as I like Glen Frey, he had a lot to do with pushing Randy off the train platform.
Distinct powerful voice matches well with Glenn's voice.
and with his eyes closed...
Yes,, and Linda was bad here, just screamed and jumped to the song in wrong harmonies...
Agreed. Not flashy/showy- always a bit shy on stage. Schmidt could sing high with power but not with the sweetness - or astounding range - of Meisner. And their bass parts took a huge step backwards. Randy’s bass playing was fleshed out, dynamic and extremely advanced - yet a perfect fit for the Eagles’ fairly uncomplicated chord structures. TBB came in to the Eagles as fundamentally a root-five player who improved by having to play Randy’s parts.
There’s no one who replicate Randy’s harmony vocals. Amazing.
Too bad Glenn and Don screwed him over
@@paulbrown2681 That's putting it mildly.
Timothy B. Schmit!
The Eagles are a vocal harmony band so when Randy refuses to sing, they are in a hard place.
@@fritzmaynes5238 almost...not Equal... But anyway good boy Timmy!!!
I teach high school geometry and was subbing for the history teacher. The lesson for the day was the history and significance of 80’s rock and the influence of MTV. I graduated high school in 1981 and saw some the greatest rock bands ever live. I never saw the Eagles, Jackson Browne or Linda Rondstat. This was epic and was surprised that in a class of about 20 students 1/2 of them appreciated the bands that were featured in the documentary. I asked how they became familiar with 70-80’s rock and they said from their parents vintage vinyl. Long live rock and roll 🎸
This isn't 80s rock. It's from the 70s. But you probably know that.
I remember hearing this on rt22 in my '62 Dart with a 383 headed west at over a hundred..... Young and stupid!
My wife and I graduated high school in the mid '80 and taught are kids to appreciate classic rock.
At the 1971 Disneyland Grad Night....
We found a small empty outdoor arena to rest. There was a long long wait at the Matterhorn ride. Suddenly others sat down. Linda Rhonstadt with her silky tshirt as a dress appeared a few yards in front started singing. Future members of the Eagles were her backup players. Smokey Robinson also performed. I didn't know who they were then...
And I think I'll remember this night for a long long time.
@@dans9463 Glenn Frye and Don Henley were in her backup band back then...Glenn Frye was renting a basement apartment from Jackson Browne who lived upstairs.
I don't know if Linda Ronstadt, Sold more albums than anybody on stage, But she's damn close.Eagles forever!!!
For me, the face of The Eagles is Randy Meisner. When I picture The Eagles, it's Randy I see.
So this is an ALL star line up with none other than the Queen herself. LINDA RONSTADT! ❤️ Also seeing a woman play guitar side by side with the guys in the 70s was almost unheard of. Man she freaking rocks and so do the guys for being so effing cool 😎
Love Jackson ❤️
Love Linda ❤️❤️
Love Eagles ❤️❤️❤️
@Clyde Jackson Browne I doubt you are the real Jackson Browne.
Ditto
Amazing group of musicians. Yet just a small sample of what our generation gave music. Just amazing!!!! AndvLinda is really responsible for the Eagle's. She was a comllete package. Looks, talent everything!!! You couldn't afford to buy a ticket to see this much talent together if it were today. 😂❤ bittersweet for this old rocker!!
Jackson. My girlfriend and I were so fortunate to attend the 2019 concert that you gave here in Las Vegas. She wasn't really too familiar with your catalog of music so she had no expectations. She loved the experience! Yours was the last concert we attended, as she passed away from cancer 2 months ago. Thanks for the memory of that Saturday night spent hearing your fantastic music.
Love you jackson browne
This is The Eagles i came to love. So many talented ppl. Such a different sound than anyone before them.
70’s music has something special, don’t know why, you got to feel it.
People of all colors dancing together. Beautiful thing you won't see today...
Wow!! Music of my youth was the greatest! Real voices, real instruments, real feeling! Legends, all of them! My heaven will have this sound!
I'd never seen this before y'all. It's a serious classic video. The Eagles WITH Jackson Browne AND Linda Ronstadt! And it sounds GOOD too. Holy sheet! In the archives!
Plus both Bernie and Don on guitars.
Don Kirshner’s “Rock Concert” usually followed “In Concert” which was simulcast on FM radio stations throughout the country in 1973, 74. Getting a buzz on the weekend and planted in front of the television watching great artist was fun time for us then 21 year olds.
@@janburns2457 I think they did "Midnight Flyer" at this same concert. Bernie's banjo playing was great and I didn't realise at the time that not Don F, but Glen, did the outtro silde guitar.
Rock on
Jackson Brown helped Glen Frye write this song.Linda Ronstadt is how they all met! Karma 🎼😎🎼
What a freaking lineup!?!?! I missed this by a decade. Even though they were still great in the 80’s!! Their heyday was the 70’s. And to get to see all these guys in one night!! Man!!
All just for $7.50, reserved seats. in 1977.Still have the ticket stub. Good show
True Eagles Sound !
Miss those golden memories Glenn Linda Randy Jackson beautiful video thank you for sharing hope for more videos
Thanks ,Jackson Brown!!!
Happy Friday!!!🙂🙂🙂🙂
Jackson and Linda's counterpoint vocals are just heavenly!
Jackson was and still is great. But Linda on this I'm not sure. Randy was #1 Eagle for me.
They all just got up there singing and strumming and making it look and sound easy. Those were the days.
Brings back those memories of flying down the 401 heading for Toronto at 4 in the morning when I was 18. Man that was 51 years ago. Always had The Eagles on the top of my list.
One of the many things that I love about Jackson Browne is that he is a musicians' musician.he just loves playing music and he collaborates so easily and without ego with so many great musicians. He is always a joy to watch and listen to. I can truly say he's my favorite artist of all time because his pure love of the music always shines through.
Take it easy ,eagle Thank you so and very much for the song maddy oje james ❤️
I love the way Glenn smiled, so fully and knowingly at Jackson there. They knew, knew that they'd made a VERY good song there. Both, with individual, but unique talent.
After reading Don Felder’s book, and a few others, I can’t get a warm and fuzzy feeling about Frey, not withstanding his vocal/writing contributions. He was an egotistical bully, directly responsible for Randy’s less than amicable departure. The Eagles became the Don and Glenn show with a few other supporting musicians.
Jackson Brown Wrote the Song Take it Easy .. “Take It Easy” was mostly written by Jackson Browne, a non-Eagle,. Browne, a boyish and mournful young songwriter, started the song with an account of his woman problems. Out of the seven on his mind, he said, only one was a friend. The rest wanted to own him, or stone him
Back many years ago, saw Linda Ronstadt in concert! I love this song so much! So many memories!
Miss those times
Linda was so great, she put the Eagles together as her backing band. And Jackson Browne gave his apartment neighbour Glen Frey this song he had started to write.
Gotta give Bernie Leadon kudos for his own amazing harmonies.
I can still hear Linda’s voice above Glenn’s !!! … and it still gives me goosebumps on the back of my neck !!! … lotta talent in all of them onstage !!!
66 yrs old Fri 15 luv this stuff. 2 Canadian Tribute bands. Hotel Calafornia& Epic Eagles. Check them out

This Is Real Music Way Better Than Today's Music
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Believe me it was Great Back Then,I'm Old School And I Loved It Best Years Of My Life,The 60's and 70's.
Best song EVER by JB and/or Eagles. And just look at that baby JB ... just love that man ♥️ best singer/songwriter
I much prefer Jackson Browne’s album version of “Take It Easy “ . Sneaky Pete’s ethereal peddle stead, the laid back feel, and of course the segue into “Our Lady of the Well. “
Thanks for posting this, love the eagles especially Randy Mesnier, appreciate if you can share more of the live performances in the 70s thanks again.
Knew a German guy ages ago who told me there had never been one single night in which he didn't listen to JB's music before sleep.
That I did too. That I did too!
JB is not only a poet, not to mention a singer-writer, but a prophet whose depiction of the existential vacuum in the modern world is rarely surpassed by many contemporaries in the industry.
Sleeps Dark and Silent Gate. It has a spiritual affect.
My favorite Eagles member...on the bass ladies and gentlemen Mr. Randy Meisner! 🔥
There's old Bernie Leadon playing lead who used to always stop by our house when I was a little kid in Gainesville. He loved to make fun of me. Funny, I became a sarcastic smart-ass just like him. All the best Bernie, Tony's younger very talented brother AndyOkus.
Ladies and gentlemen. The 70's at its best.
And don't forget Miss Linda. Such a talent that rose above all the 70s LA music with her beautiful voice whether lead or harmony like here. Love you Linda.
Miss her terribly
OMG, my all time favorite Eagles piece, with Linda and Jackson. Such great harmonies, well-crafted arrangement. Part of the soundtrack of my life.
It's one thing rap crap cant do is make people happy and smile. So much talent on stage, real guitars and drums so on. No computer generated sounds here like in rap and hippity hip hop. What's fun about rock is even watching the band jam and getting into it. No hate words just pure goodness bringing smiles
So much hair and masters of their craft. I am afraid this era of popular music is gone forever.
Now it is drum machines, auto tune and self indulgent blathering,
Glad we have this old stuff recorded.
When you have Linda and Jackson on backup vocals, that says it all really.
We were all that young once. And we’re all still here still loving Jackson Browne.
Such a wonderful time it was!
On just an aesthetic note alone, I love seeing a lot of guitars being played on one stage like this
I was thinking the exact same thing.
I love Joe Walsh but Bernie is a god! And, the talent on that stage….Randy’s bass and vocals, the two Dons, Glen, Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt….it doesn’t get any better!
Bernie was the best good banjo player first album.
Double and triple agree. That was history. In a higher memory.
Bernie got his feelings hurt because he could not keep up with Felder and, became an ass.... He just up and quit the his Birds without royalties, rights or much of anything..... So much for emotions and a critical career debacle....
I was fixing too ask, but yes it was definitely a polished trac by the time it was recorded, and most definitely for me the most vivid part, mesmerizing to me - too bad not on this one
I’ve read that the big, grand intro to “Take It Easy” was the creation of Bernie Leadon more than anyone else.
Never knew Bernie played that most awesome haunting lead guitar..
It’s one of my all time fave guitar solos!
You are singlehandedly bringing back far too many memories that are still CRYSTAL CLEAR after 50 years !!! I am so glad you posted this !!! Thank YOU !!!
Their strumming hands were moving in sync.
@@tjwash5118...........as are the claps in the audience !!!
You don’t get this type of collaboration of first class talent anymore. Why not? Powerful stuff!
It's just beyond amazing to see all my favorite musicians singing one of well-written and iconic songs. Thank you for sharing this precious clip.😊
We were so young full of life and music. So grateful to be part of the tribe.
The two writers of the song with Linda for accompanying vocals. Does not get much better.
The first time I drove cross-country, I noticed on my map that the Intersate I was traveling (I-40?) would pass close by Winslow, Arizona. This was probably in 1978. Had to pull off the highway and check out the town for a few minutes. I stood on a corner in Winslow, Arizona ... but no girl in a flatbed Ford slowed down to take a look at me! 😃
(I don't know if the town already had its statue built recognized the song, but if it was there, I didn't see or know about it. No Internet in those days ...)
What a band that was. Bernie Leadon played a mean lead and the harmonies were fantabulous. My favourite version, particularly with Randy Meisner's cool harmonies. Great track, all round!
Epic, and to have Linda there too must have been absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Crowd clapping on the "1"...
I remember watching this live. Yes…I’m old. I think it was on “The Midnight Special”. It could have been “Don Kirschner”s Rock Concert”. That’s how we saw live music back in the day.
It doesn't look like the Midnight Special stage; seems less shiny and bright! I wish this had the year on it!
I looked around the internet. Don Kirchner's Rock Concerts 🎸 it seems.
midnight special I think it was been some decades eh?
I was in grade school. It was the first time I’d ever seen the Eagles or heard of Jackson Browne.
@@theresapellicano402 yep, it's Don Kirschner's Rock Concert. They used to show these on VH1 back in the day.
The first tune I learned to play on guitar. I always loved the way JB slid into Our Lady of the Well.
It was one of my first songs I could play on a guitar as well. Just a flat out classic.
Look at those kids making music and having a blast! SoCal early ‘70’s was awesome
I was lucky to see Eagles 1st show at Santa Monica Civic opened for Procol Harum . I knew it was special as the whos who of La music scene was on stage in the wings
Filmed during the very brief period when bernie leadon and don felder were both still in the lineup. Bernie was, IMO, the greatest instrumentalist in the eagles. Not a whole lot of live performance footage of the group during bernie's tenure...thanks for uploading.🙂👍
Yes sir...but watch Felder laying back in the background...not one solo or fill licks...just a very solid strumming pattern..letting Bernie do his thing...other than the editing/director who kept cutting away to the audience just when one of the band was in a close up...great clip/historical for sure..thanks for posting JB
OMG! Jackson as handsome as ever 💜
I totally agree with you ❤️
and Linda is drop-dead GORGEOUS!
I love this recording of Take it Easy! What talent is on that stage. No doubt in my mind the 70s produced the best music!! The opening line is phenomenal and the whole song is just a masterpiece!!! Thank you Jackson and Glenn for writing it!!!! 🎶🎶🎶🎶
Haha I'm 40 and love love love this music and not the crap passing for music now and Don Henley is a distinguished alumni from North Texas University Denton's answer to Animal house and Faber college and I'm from Denton and people still remember that bad boy who made it big from here lol
We lived through the best Era of music in those years.
What a blast from the past... feelin’ the vibe. Simpler times .

JACKSON BROWNE FOREVER
Harmonies are amazing
Incredible harmonies made that band famous--- that and a bit of country in the rock they did early on when Country was being discovered by the young .
Wow so young. I bet we thought we getting past it even then... time is strange.
Now this was probably a totally awesome concert. The Eagles are just so good in concert, even today.
The. Best.
Linda was their boss Lady and generous benefactor - musically and emotionally. The guitar 🎸 here is bigger than she is. Ahh...but that voice of hers is the only female we can listen to over and over. Nice reunion they are having on this one.
These guys blew her out of the water in every way.
Glad she and Bob Seger got them going!
Henley and Frey started out singing backup vocals for Ronstadt. Cool that she sang backup for them here.
So great to see this. What a super group! Think of all the amazing, beautiful and true music they each and all give to the world. Thank you forever.🌻
recalling our childhood...when we had nothing but music and we needed nothing else huh? let's invite young generations share this awesome feeling because still worths gold
how 70's SoCal sound and look can you get!
Even just singing back up it is hard for Ronstadt to hide her powerful voice.
