  • Juan Dixon is one of my favorite college players ever! I watched him a lot growing up and admired how he carried himself on and off the floor. In my opinion he's the best Maryland player ever based on accomplishments and overall career in college, winning a national championship in the process. Upon entering the league his career didn't go as planned. Is Micheal Jordan the reason why? What Stunted Juan's Growth? Here's 3 reasons!

What cemented Juan's legacy? That 2001-02 Maryland team played in the toughest bracket to win the championship. They beat Wisconsin- 2nd Round, Kentucky-Sweet 16, UConn- Elite 8, Kansas- Final 4, and Indiana- National Championship game. He was the Tournament's MVP.

    Juan was a great player.
In the NBA, if you are undersized at guard, you have to be able to be an equally adept combo guard ( Joe Dumars) or an over the top scorer (Iverson), or a masterful floor general who controls the pace of the game( Chris Paul, Isaiah Thomas, Steve Nash).
I'm glad he is still involved in the game.
He was one of my faves coming up

College bball was so much better back then, watching the terps was like an event for me. Right around his senior year id about when i started watching college bball: i was like 13 years old and i got obsessed. Im from maryland and luckily we had a really good team. It paid off watching them. They won their one and only title 2 years later, out of what like 221 division one teams, they went 32-4, with a 15-1 acc record!! And at good old cole field house, they went 12-0. It might have been their last year there

Juan is one of the best players hands down to come through the University of Maryland. The things he achieved there were noteworthy but he was never going to have that type of success in the league. He was undersized. He had a shooting guards game in a point guard body and he never developed the skills necessary to play on the ball effectively. He played hard and was always a professional but he was never going to be more than a 7th or 8th man. Shoutout to him though for having a long nba career and a decorated college career. Hopefully his coaching career can bear similar fruit. Great video as always.

I love what you do bro, but not everyone is stunted growth....This dude is another overachiever that was good as he could be. He maxed out his abilities. An undersized 2 guard - on the COLLEGE LEVEL. He had to learn a new position in the league. He was as good as he could be. He was so small he had to redshirt freshman year at Maryland because he was only 150lbs coming out of high school

I think Juan hit growth spurt. 6'2, non athlete, limited handle, not super quick, slight frame.. believe 7 year vet. He picked the perfect college for his game. UMD ran heavy flex offense so he didn't really have to create. Appreciate this one. Do one of his teammates Terrance Morris.. I lived in Bmore and PG county. It's almost like 2 different states. Baltimore got some guards. Very under-rated, gritty, PG got hoopers as well, but I got a lot of love for those Bmore guards..

Damn i miss these days more than anything! Almost makes me want to cry. I was 14 when they won the title. Growing up in MD, i was and still am a huge sports fan. I love basketball, footbal and baseball. I bleed ravens, orioles and terps. Around that time maryland was very fortunate. Ravens won the SB in 2000 and we had ray lewis, fhe best defender ever. My favorite baseball player and the best orioles of all time cal ripken was nearing the end of his career and breaking more records. I remember the first time i saw juan dixon. I think it was his sophmore year, and i was at my uncles party in his basement and he had the game on. I remember he was so skinny and he had and has the most beaultiful jumper ever, even when he misssd. He made a bunch of 3s thats gams, than i sfArted keeping track of him and watching every game and he was just so amazing with that jumper. I got depressed when he was in rhe nba because he didnt play as much, but there were some games, he played like his old self. Damn i miss the md terps bball teams from like 98-2006. Md could have won back to back titles. They were beating duke by 22 at one point in the final four and i def think they would have beat whoever duke played in the 2001 title. It was either uconn or arizona i think. Not many people remember this, but when the hoosiers played duke jn the sweet 16 or elite 8, i forget which one, duke had a chance to tie than win at the endZ jay will took 2 shots at the line and made the first one and then the second one, which would have tied the game went in and out and i think boozer rebounded and also just missed. Indiana ended up with a very lucky 74-73 win. Damn if duke wins that game, theres a chance md maybe loses to duke in the title. The only thing is juan was do possessed to wjn that i honestly think he and the terps would gave beaten an nba team m, if they stood in their way. Juan is the greatest player of a tiiimmmmeee!!!!! 20 years later and hes stjll the all time points leader and 3 point leader, also second all time in acc history in steals. Hes involved in the most wins and games played all time as a terps since juans departure, they havent even made the elite 8 one time.

I love your work .... By far the best channel on you tube in my opinion... always done with respect and class.... That being said .... Juan grew up and is from West Baltimore.... although close in proximity the two Being DC and Baltimore could not be further apart especially in terms of Sports..... Baltimoreans don’t even claim the term DMV...

He came during the right time. When all the best players were jumping straight to the draft. It gave off the bench players starting positions. They was tough & played hard tho

Damn, I loved Dix. I used to gamble back in the day, and he won me a ton of money predicting his championship before the season. I actually called 4 out of 5 seasons straight (Duke, Maryland, missed on Syracuse cuz I bet on UCONN, then UCONN and finally actually called both championship teams the next year in NC and Illinois). He and Steve Blake were an awesome tandem and Lonnie Baxter was even good in college. But I feel like his size was the problem, a combo guard/lead guard prior to teams embracing that style of play from a small shooting guard.

You did a vid on Chris Thomas (Fighting Irish)...I was very close to his family. You did him real justice. Known him since he was 13. He was unreal cold bro.

Juan played on heart he was good but he got as much out of his talent as he could. So his growth wasn’t stunted he was just an undersized shooting guard and by NBA standards a average athlete. I salute him for overcoming the odds and even making it to the league and having a decent NBA career.

Yes. My hero, motivation for any field. His body was just too small and wirey to last in the NBA. Blake lived to dish, Juan to shoot. I got to see Juan play in high school once and several times as a Terp. Iverson-level quickness (edit) plus defense.

he had game fr, but I think playing behind such a good cast of guards hurt his progression. if he would’ve been drafted in a position where he could start, i have no doubt in my mind he was going to be a star.
