One of the coldest shooting guards of the 90s! Sometimes you can get in the way of yourself. Are there any other reasons I missed? Appreciate you guys.

He was one of the most explosive players in the 90s...i couldn't understand why he felt like he was bigger than the game..considering how he came up..you would think that he would at least have people around him that were not scared to tell him..yo..dont do that man...he reminds me of how DAVID RUFFIN was...i remember in the TEMPTATIONS movie..OTIS WILLIAMS asked him..WHATS WRONG?...and RUFFIN replied...Nothin...for the first time?..everything is right..and i think Rider was the same way...it seemed like he HAD TO HAVE SOMETHING BAD HAPPEN or else he didnt feel right..i know some people like that..we call that..CANT WIN FOR LOSING...and to end this?...to even have the audacity to challenge KOBE further lets me know he had a false sense of bravado and got mortally humbled because of it...i just wish he had some guidance when he first got in the league...peace..and much respect to STUNTED GROWTH for not pulling punches...salute to J.R.though..

JC Coach said he couldn't shoot...he torched us. But I see him as Harold Minor with a J who had a real chance to just play. His attitude was the only barrier to his game. Unlike Minor they never gave him freedom to just ball. So, you didn't missing a thing JR'S ego got in the way.

Although he was a phenomenal talent Isiah Rider forgot the fundamental rule of getting paid to play sports: You are a PROFESSIONAL athlete first and foremost. Professional being the operative word. When a team decides to draft you trade for you or sign you they are investing in you. They want to see a return on that investment. You can not tarnish your value by constantly running afoul of the law doing crazy things or misrepresenting yourself or the team. JR Rider was a headache his entire time in the league and after a while teams didn’t want anything to do with him.

Dude had the ability to be a perennial All-Star and maybe even a Hall of Famer. A T-Wolves team with him KG and Marbury easily makes to the conference finals. But as our parents told us growing up, hard heads make a soft behind.

you hit the nail on the head when you said you need more than talent to make it in the NBA. there have been many players who were as talented, gifted, and athletic as michael jordan. very few of those players had jordan's drive and discipline.

Let me start by saying I saw this brother from UNLV to the day he predicted he would win the Slam Dunk Contest and I wish when he played for the Lakers that he would have had more time on the floor. When he was in ATL he could score and put up numbers but not wins. I thought Portland and L.A. were perfect for his game. Thank you for shining light on one of the best players from the early 90s. He was a brother that just needed better guidance

It's been a long time waiting on this Growth Stunt. He was like the Crosstown Hood rival to Latrell Sprewell in the mid90s .Great break down on Riders career .he was that o.g. .he one of the few players that held his own and bodied alot of Allstars at his position but polish and integrity along with focus not having ,or atleast maintaining a solid 2 out of 3 can derail ur growth or career in any sport or in general.

Salute and respect stunted growth...Isaiah rider had the potential and fire at UNLV and the NBA but off the court troubles slowed him down and glad he’s doing fine and well..I recall a quote Isaiah Rider said about Steve Smith and it was:make me the man like Steve Smith was or get me outta here...fun fact:Isaiah Rider Brian Shaw and Greg Foster won a title together with the Lakers in 2001...true or not:First time three cats from Oakland won a championship together on the same team....

He may have been a nice person, had a good heart. but he was a big headache on every team he was on, and in the NBA unless you are a generational talent you can't get away with that. Too many people's jobs and dollars are at stake.

He may have been nice but once you upset him in any way, big or small, he couldn't let it go. Even jokes made him mad. He mentally blacked out once he perceived a slight. That is not a good social skill to lack.

He is one of my favs from the 90s. From his days at UNLV all thru his NBA days... My personal opinion the NBA didn't care for his hood demeanor and his non clean cut image. He said himself he had nobody in his corner to mentor him. Talent wise he was one of the best. And he even went bar for bar with the Goat MJ.. that Portland team he was on seemed to be the best teams he was on. (Not including the Lakers)Even tho he was not the first option on the offense. That hawks team sucked and those other players didn't value winning they didn't care so he expressed that and the media ate it up... Salute to JR Rider

I thought that was the greatest performance I'd ever seen. And became a STAN going forward. On "NBA Live 95" create a team feature, my whole team, was nothing but JR Rider's lol. My dad would always clown me by saying, "Your boy out there shooting dice again??? Smoking erb??" Lol. JR had game, but just didn't have the right mindset, to be a true franchise player.
