  • Fat Tail Investment Research’s Editorial Director, Greg Canavan, talks with Gavekal’s Louis-Vincent Gave about the recent Chinese stimulus measures.
As a contrarian investor, Greg had recommended bombed out Chinese equities to members in mid-2024. He reached out to
Louis with the intention of discussing just how bad China’s economy was.
But China announced major stimulus measures just before the discussion look place.
So it turned out to be a very different conversation.
The conversation with Louis covers a lot of ground, including:
Does the rally have legs (yes)
What China’s policymakers really care about (not the stock
    market)
Why the world is more dependent on China than ever
Where are China’s US$80 billion a month in trade
    surpluses going?
Why a New Plaza Accord Could lead to a Massive Boom
Why Louis is bullish on commodities (but not iron ore)
The comments on why this stimulus is different for the iron ore market are particularly interesting.

Louis has the best understanding of the Chinese market I have seen. He has lived and worked in Hong Kong and studied China with an unbiased perspective for many years.

It’s pretty rare to have fair opinions on China. Most of those “China experts” on Anglo-Saxon media are parroting China’s doom and bust cycle all day long. So thank you for this conversation!!!

It’s really heartbreaking to see how inflation and recession impact low-income families. The cost of living keeps rising, and many struggle just to meet basic needs, let alone save or invest. It’s a reminder of the importance of finding ways to create financial opportunities. You've helped me a lot sir Brian! Imagine i invested $50,000 and received $190,500 after 14 days

Some persons think inves'tin is all about buying stocks; I think going into the stock market without a good experience is a big risk, that's why I'm lucky to have seen someone like mr Brian C Nelson.

Finding yourself a good broker is as same as finding a good wife, which you go less stress, you get just enough with so much little effort at things

I'm surprised that you just mentioned and recommend Mr Brian Nelson. I met him at a conference in 2018 and we have been working together ever since.

that's probably on the guest's end. Sounds like a noise suppression filter struggling. That's why on the radio everyone wears a pair of headphones

Louis fails to mention the importance of Chinese government policy and the mantra of “common prosperity”. International investors (including myself) lost significant money in China stocks back in early 2021 when the government declared they were immediately intervening into certain sectors of the market with mandates on pricing and product policy. The education market was destroyed in one day (the government banned certain types of private education, as well as mandated minimal pricing for others. They also arrested jack Ma from Alibaba (for being too critical of the government) , which saw Alibaba stock price decline by 80% in the following 12 months.
The lack of transparency in the Chinese market, and the unpredictable nature of Chinese government policy , have made the market un-investable for most investors who aren’t on the inside track on government policy. Stay away from this market.
