We're here again with Jay to show you how to disassemble and replace the components that make up your outside mirror assembly.
Volvo sells these components in a few different varieties. The early years of the S60/V70 can be purchased as an entire mirror assembly making your life much easier as they bolt directly up to the door. Just snap on a new cover and a mirror glass and your good to go.
For the later model years, unfortunately the units aren't sold as an assembly so you'll need to disassemble the mirror in order to replace the broken pieces at hand.

Thanks for the video
Just replaced the whole assembly with one from a scrap yard.
Took about 20mins.
Cost me £35 for the part.
I had a quote for the part and labour of £350 ish.
Saved me a fortunate and I get the dopamine of fixing it myself.
Much appreciated x
Thank you so much for this video! You just saved me about $250 in repair shop costs!! I got a mirror from eBay and was able to install it myself-- I feel so proud, and grateful to you for your very clear instructions. You're the best!
You are very welcome! Glad we can help!
I just woke up to find my 09 XC70 was the victim of a hit and run overnight. This video is going to save me so much $$ on the repair costs. Thank you so much.
Jay is awesome! Exactly the kind of DIY videos I need!
I’d love to see something similar for the P3 models. Lots of stuff that can go wrong on those.
Still a valuable resource. Fixed a 'new' wing mirror unit off Ebay to my 2001 S60 in just over an hour. Thanks!
Glad you found it helpful!
Thanks. I used your video to replace a mirror today on my S80. On my 2004 there was one more hidden screw underneath a cover in the change cup. Took forever to figure that one out. Other than that the video was spot on.
Thank you for letting us know!
Thanks for this walk-through, it helped me to replace my passenger side mirror assembly. Only thing to note for other s60 R owners is when popping the 8 door clips, it's best to use a tiny nail so you can push (hammer) the middle of the clip all the way inside, so the clip can be removed safely.
Excellent presentation sir ! Making it look like a breeze to fix !
Best video by far for this repair.
Thank you! I just learned how to pop my mirror cover back on without breaking it. Much appreciated. :-)
Glad it helped you Jason!
Thank you very much vor the video, i did it for 20 min. Very well done.
You guys are the best. Saves my ass on so many euro projects. Good prices too.
Jay!!! You almost did. I was hoping you would show how to remove/replace the ambient temp sensor on the underside of the mirror. Is that just a matter of prying it out? No need to remove the mirror assembly like you did???
Very informative and straight to the point, just what I needed thanks
You're very welcome!
Short and sweet! Nice job.
0:40 don't use screwdriver, just push to flip the mirror then pull on the outer edge - pull it sideways and away from the car gently, it will pop then move it gently to remove it completely from it's plastic bracket. The clips for the triangular piece break easily, undo the piece by prying gently at all corners. For the door handle, pry from underneath so you don't damage the edge that is visible - later door handle type comes out the same way ua-cam.com/video/vXYoFcBp4EA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/qAUUiRhKWlA/v-deo.html
Quality workmanship. Sweet.
Thank you kindly
Oh these are awesome. It's a shame all Volvo owners will need to see this mirror video.... :>(
Excelent video, thanks máster for teach us.
Very helpful! Thanks for explanation!
how do you get to the motor which folds the mirror in and out? I can hear it buzzing but it doesnt turn.
mind the door-panel clips, they are in 2 parts.
The rivet and the nail, nail is pushed in when the rivet is in place.
I damaged some not doing it right so...
ow and perfect video for what i need to know, thanks!
Nice video! Thank you.
Hey- VERY helpful for access to the ambient temp sensor that throws the P0071 code. You should label this video as such so people can find it- there are very few guides out there.
Fantastic help!
Glad you found it helpful, Kevin!
very educative .thank you
the 8 pins are fiddly. i suggest a very thin torx to pop them out. they come out in 3 parts. the plug, the pin and a small plastic part. keep hold of them and put the small plastic culinder back in last

My mirror (07 V70) broke at the break-away pivot (shared-driveway neighbour hit it with his garbage bin). I can get a mirror assembly from a 04 at my local wrecker. It won't have a turn signal light, so I was wondering if I can disassemble the mirror further and just replace the snapped pivot pieces on my 07 mirror, since all the external parts are still in good shape. Thanks.
You should be able to make it work!
Hi there, does this process translate to later facelift models/R models? 2007 SR for anyone wondering.
Can you share the same for S40 2009 ?
Thank you For You vidéo
Thank you for watching!
is this the same mirror for all cars? ie would a s60 mirror fit on one of the other models?
Great video!!!😊
Is it possible to Install the facelift side mirror on a 2002 S60??
Not same connector
Would this work for the 2003 Volvo s60?
Thank you😊
As usual, great video. What was the purpose of removing mirror glass, lights, etc?
Mirror glass to remove the adjustment motor, the other things to show how it's done, for the viewers.
Just replaced the passenger side glass on my 2012 s60. Every thing went fine but now the glass won't aim down towards the curb when in reverse (the parking assist mode), it just kind of twitches in a little and stops. If you manually adjust it from the driver's switch it moves fine. Is there a zeroing step I'm missing to get the parking assist feature to aim the side mirror down correctly?
very good video
Great video. I've got BLIS on the driver side (2015 XC70), however someone in the past replaced the passenger side mirror but didn't bother to get the BLIS mirror housing, camera, etc - they replaced parts w/o BLIS. I want to buy the correct BLIS parts and replace, however, I worry if they tampered with the green connection inside the door to make it work with the non-BLIS parts. Do you know if the green connectors inside the door in your video are the same if the mirror had BLIS? Or maybe it's the same but there's an additional green connection line for the BLIS? Maybe they just kept the wiring intact and ran it out into the new mirror and left whatever line going to the camera loose in there. I probably have to take it apart to find out.
Perfect 👌
Is this the same process for most model years? I've got a 2012 s60 that the passenger side glass just fell out.
Would this procedure valid procedure for s60 2008?
Can you do a vid showing how to replace the ambient temp sensors on both mirrors?
Hello, we'll keep that in mind for our upcoming Volvo DIY videos.
Wow ! So there are two ? One in each mirror?
My daughters S60 has intermittent temperature display ,it's sometimes out by 30 degrees lol 😂
FCP Euro do it - I need to replace mine but want to avoid removing door panel if possible?
yeah not like that on my 2010 it looks like it was designed by Beelzebub himself. issue was chaffed cables in the loom. a complete mare to get apart and try to fix.
Как в аптеке по полочкам!👍
thanks for the video. I have a question about software. I have a 2004 Volvo s60, I need to replace the entire door mirror assembly and found the part I need on eBay. Just wondering, is it easy enough to purchase this part and replace the old broken one? or is there going to be any problem with software updates and the new (used) part from eBay not working? thank you.
the passenger side glass portion of my mirror shakes as I drive, any idea why or how to fix it? I have a 2010 S80 T6
Hi , nice video helpt me well, other short question:
Does anyone by chance know if it is possible to provide a volvo v70 with electrically foldable mirrors? If they not have been maintained from the factory?
Could it be just replace the heaterpanel wiht a panel with button to flip over the mirrors? would that be ok?
What is the light bulb model for the courtesy/puddle light in each side mirror? Looking to replace to LED
P3 volvos same procedure?
Very similar Robertas
Why not show greater detail? This is an expensive part to replace if someone fails to pry on the exact spot or "clip"...
Hi there, I'd really like to know if these door mirrors (the actual mirror only, NOT the assy) are universal for the S60 (2nd gen) and the S80 (post 2014 2nd gen). I can't seem to find an answer anywhere on the web. Would appreciate your help please! (I have a 2017 S60 door mirror and was wondering if this could fit a 2014 S80)
Thank you
You're welcome!
Taking it to the next step... I need to replace the ambient temperature sensors. Bought 2 new ones from you guys but can't find instruction anywhere on how to replace them. I assume I have to remove the mirror assemblies as you demonstrate. How do I remove and replace the sensors?
He does it at the 3:00 mark
will a mirror motor from 2004-2009 work on a 2012 s60?
Hi Ryan, feel free to reach our service team via email at service@fcpeuro.com. With your VIN they can help you source the correct part number for your Volvo.
Great video - is replacing the mirror assembly on a 2013 significantly different from this?
It will be a similar process for a 2013.
What about the ambient temp sensor?
To remove ambient temperature sensor - once you’ve removed the mirror you can look under the mirror and see the flex pin holding the sensor in place. Poke it with a screw driver and it will pop out the bottom side of the mirror. Can then use a screw driver from outside mirror housing to remove sensor. Then just feed the wires through the grommets and disconnect wires at green plastic wire harness.
Hello! I wonder if you can put 2005 side mirrors on a 2001 model or if the connector is different, Thanks.
They should bolt-on and have the same connector!
@@fcpeuro Thank you, have a great weekend!
My 2002 S80 has a different door handle cover. How do you remove it?
Same here
Trying to do this on a 2005 S80 not sure about need to remove door handle?
Hi R.C. The S80 is a little different but should be a similar process.
@@fcpeuro Thank you I figured it out. I replaced the entire mirror housing, I now I have a defective mirror plate. So on to replacing that.
impressive. if mirror does not open properly when button pushed, is it motor or something else?
Thanks for the s60 videos. Can I replace the turn signal lens without removing the mirror? 2009 s60
You're welcome Joe! You should be able to remove the lens without taking out the mirror.
Good
Where is the mirror folding mechanism?
I hit garage door with mirror and need to fix this mechanism.
How did you solve this? usually a pin in the motor issue.
I found a workshop and they've fixed it for 10% of a price of new one.
Jay, do you have to pull the whole mirror to change the puddle light?
You should be able to gain access by removing just the mirror portion.
Thanks! I'll give it a shot and let you know.
Can I use a 2003 driver side mirror for a 2004?
It will probably work.
What are the two white plastic tabs on the back side of the mirror glass for?
Those are the alignment tabs.
Any trick to getting them both in?
is this the same mirror assembly for 07 s60 2.5t ?
The mirror assembly will be slightly different for the 2007 S60. The replacement process will be the same.
Anyone have an answer for me. I had the mirror only replaced and now every time I unlock car and open the door the mirror automatically turns up. I have to manual adjust position each time. How can I set the mirror.
toprider i have that same exact problem! Did u ever find a solution?
Mirrors and seat settings are saved to the keyfob that locks/unlocks the car AND saved seats. Use your keyfob to resave a seating position and the mirrors will save in that position too. It's so multiple driver/keyfobs can automatically adjust when the car is unlocked.
How do you put all this stuff back???
It’s in the vid 🙂
No not the same mirror as my s80 2002 , it has a thin piece of wire sticking out of the connectors end , no idea where it suppose to go .
Peppermint has a video on how to re-install those
1:10 lol my fell off 😂
I'm not a mechanic, but this seems like way too much work to replace a mirror.
I still can’t get the painted cover off. He makes it look so easy, but I have scratched the hell out of the replacement’s cover trying to get it off. I can’t imagine getting the one from my current mirror off in any condition worth putting back on the replacement mirror.
