Well, I believe many times in Christianity we got it wrong when Jesus said 'do not judge!
Based on Matthew 7:1-5, Jesus wasn’t telling people not to judge. He was telling people not to be a hypocrite when you judge. He was speaking to a crowd about what true righteousness is. He was talking about issues of the heart and about what makes a person pleasing before God. He was teaching against people having a critical, condemning, self-righteous, judgmental attitude toward other people.
So, what is Jesus teaching against? The mere act of judging others? No, not at all😀.
In all of this, however, I want all of us to hear that Jesus doesn’t say don’t judge. He says take the plank out of your eye and then judge RIGHTLY. Jesus was under no illusion that speaking truth to other people was a bad or unloving thing. He never intended to prevent His people from making insightful, wise and accurate judgments about situations or about each other. No, He knows that we were created to speak truth into each other’s lives. Truth is a good thing. I want people to tell me the truth, and so do everyone of you. If I have a big piece of food in my teeth or something, I want the truth from you and won’t be happy if you don’t tell me and it's embarrassing when someone sees and laughs at me! 😀 See when you tell me truth, it saves me the embarrassment.
Therefore, when we simply quote or post a general phrase do not judge, it's ambiguous!
How are we going to judge a situation ir a person's act as right or wrong?
Now, don't judge me based on what i said, but PLEASE JUDGE ME based on the truth in what I said. You need to judge me, whether I am right or wrong in my explanation, but according to the Truth!
More seriously, if I go to my doctor and if he scans or takes an x-ray, he sees a probkem in my body, he better tell me. I want him to speak truth, and he has a responsibility as another human made in God’s image to speak truth to me. And I want him to judge my situation rightly, because it’s best for me. The best thing is I could go for a treatment to recover and heal from my sick condition.
I hope the above sheds some light on the phrase misused, 'do not judge'.
Conclusion :"Do not judge wrongly, but judge rightly", should be the correct phrase or post.
