    "Allied pilots report UFOs"? That might have happened, but the Horten 229 certainly had nothing to do with it. There were only 2 prototypes and only one of them made 2 or 3 test flights, one of which was a simulated air fight against a Me 262. The Horten 229 never had enemy contact and no Allied pilot ever saw it fly.
    Also it is a big stretch to assume the B2 bomber would be some sort of derivate of the Horten 229. Jack Northrop, the founder of the Northrop Corporation that later became Northrop Grumman, the company that built the B2, had designed and tested the first "flying wing" or "wing only" ("Nurflügler") aircraft before the Horten brothers started. He was in love with the idea of a "flying wing" aircraft pretty much since he started building aircraft and he never gave up on the idea. The Horten 229 certainly was better than Northrop's first flying wing designs and he might have learned a thing or two from the captured prototype, but he did not steal the idea from the Horten brothers.
    All 3 men were fascinated with flying wing designs and all 3 thought they are the future of aircraft design in general. That their designs also turned out to be harder to detect by Radar however, was more a positive side effect than the original intention. The B2 isn't a flying wing design because it is a copy of the Horten 229, it is a flying wing because that just happens to be the best design for stealth aircraft, especially for big stealth aircraft.

      The vast majority of ufo sightings have occured after 1947? After the war. Maybe Soviet Union and United States reverse engineering ww2 German technology? You know, like the swept back wing, full moving horizontal stabilizers for supersonic flight, axial flow turbojets just to name a few.

      Some secret stay secret... Today secret is "Americans, Russia founder of jet aircraft, stealth, b2 etc" "Americans, Russia is founder of kalašnjikov,m 16" "America,Russia is founder of atomic bomb, energy" "Americans, Russia is founder of rocket technology and space technology"... Well, that what is happend to advance civilization, people when accepted dictatorship, dictatorship of man build by bankrobbers with one gold, destroy every thing west from France, every thing what is not in our control.

      Northrop used Prop Engines, the Horton Brothers HO229 had the Jet Engines in the Fuselage first, Northrop stole that idea and put it on there B2 Bomber, Wake up Blind Freddy can see that, Spoils of War it's called.

    What a great paper airplane. Kermit weeks should have restored the one at Udvar-Hazy, made templates, and then built his own. Kind of like the guys did with the me-262 in Texas.

  • @johna.s.3847
    @johna.s.3847 6 років тому +1

    I think that would be a great idea. With the use of modern more reliable engines the HO-229 should perform magnificently. At the very least the one in the Smithsonian should be fully restored to educate people about the flying wing technology and where it originated. Flying wings generally perform very well with the addition of winglets at the wing tips, otherwise some sort of yaw stability will be needed such as split elevons.

    İ have 2 questions= İs there a technical manual of this aircraft and is it possible for you guys to build the Lippisch P.13a if requested and paid for (how much will it cost) ?

    • @Tim-Kaa
      @Tim-Kaa 10 років тому

      Hi, sadly there are no tech manual available for Lippisch P.13a, the blueprints will have to be pulled from Deutsch Museum in Munich. The document pull is about 2-4 months (standard bureaucracy) or trip to Munich (about 2 weeks digging in archives) + about 6 months of CAD/SolidWork analysis since such exotic machines existed only in rough blueprint forms and must be analyzed for stress, power to weight, CG, etc, aerodynamics, etc... that alone will cost a pretty penny. In addition to that, the fact that this is a ramjet aircraft unfortunately I would not be able to quote the price even in the approximate range since we do not have technology / materials to manufacture ram engines. P13a is a beautiful machine but unfortunately it is too advance for us, unless of course you know where to get a spare ramjet engine ;) Wishing you all the best in your search.

    • @Tim-Kaa
      @Tim-Kaa 10 років тому

      Now you got me thinking. Technically it can be fitted with a spare turbojet but that's the best I can think of.

  • @ianmorgan889
    @ianmorgan889 4 роки тому

    Looks like this one never got off the ground-if you'll pardon the pun-which is a great shame as this is a stunning aircraft and I would have loved to see it actually flying. If there is anyone out there still who is connected with the project, I would very much like to learn where you got the plans we saw briefly. I intend to build a scale model of the Horten Ho229 but without accurate plans there is no chance so if you can help me in my quest, I'd be very grateful.
    Many Thanks

    You will need as you likely all ready know better engines. Computer aided controls will assist with their needy control characteristics. There is if you didn't all ready know information on the leading edge air ionization of the b-2 that might be handy that has recently turned up on the net.
