  • When I first started using VoiceOver, it was a little tricky. But years later, it is second nature. So, I thought I'd go back to basics for anyone who is new to using it. In this video, I'll do a demonstration of the everyday gestures I use to navigate my iPhone.

Thanks for the refresher on basic VO gestures. I transitioned to Apple devices when the iPhone 4S was released some time ago. Before that, I used a flip phone and a dell computer using the zoom text application.
After a reasonable amount of practice developing my Apple brain, I have enjoyed all the features and upgrades. Apple's accessibility features do provide the VIP community.

Great video! I am so used to using Magnifier that I'm not using voiceOver on my iPhone just yet, but I use VoiceOver on my Apple Watch all the time. I do use Select to Speak to read text messages and the two-finger swipe from the top to read what is on the screen.

Thanks for the video. It was good information and I completely forget to use the scrub gesture so I am going to News and I’m going to practice it right now. I would like to suggest that in the future video be done on how to move apps from a group folder to another part on your home screen. I’m stuck right now trying to figure out how to do it. I hope you understand what I mean. I would also like to see more of the advanced voiceover gestures because those are the ones I really have trouble with. Again I want to thank you for doing this video and all your other videos. They help me so much.❤

Around the 11 minute mark I noticed when you swiped up voice over spoke instead of giving the auditory beeps. How did you set that up. Amazing video. I’m going incorporate the scrub jester. Thanks for the knowledge.

Good question. It actually did both. It made the beeps and then I kept my hand paused in that place until voice over spoke. I believe it has something to do with the verbosity you have on and so forth. I never changed anything to make it say that. Hope that helps!

    Hey Derek.
Are use talk back on my iPhone. I’m finding myself using it more and more these days as my vision continues to decline. This video definitely is a video. I probably will come back to many many times until I get used to the different gestures.
I am also currently in the process of learning draws.
Do you use jaws on your PC? Or do you use your cell phone for everything?

Hey! I am a Mac user so I would use VoiceOver. But, at this point, I use magnification on my computer. But, my phone is always being used with a screen reader. Thanks for the question!

I still have usable vision to use my iPhone. But I’m aware that the day will come when that will be gone. I have a lot of apps and internet items on my phone and they are in files I have my social media in one file, Bible reading and helps in another, restaurant menus in another, that kind of thing. How can files be accessed using voice over? Thanks!

Hey! Are you using the files app on your iPhone? If so, it is very accessible. Just depends on what apps you are using. Thanks!

If I wanted to go to the next island, I would have to swipe to the left, instead of to the right. Is there a way to fix that? I flipped it the other way, and it still did it the same way. Should I write with Draco backwards into the left to go towards
By the way sorry if it sounded so terrible, it’s my dictation on my iPhone, but doesn’t listen to me that much.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. If you are swiping one way it it is gong the other, it might be a glitch in your phone. Make sure you are up to date with your software and try to restart your phone. And if you can give some more details that might help. Hope you find a fix!

After I reset all of my settings on my iPhone, 13 mini, I went into Messages, to type a text, and it said, move your finger across the screen to select a letter, and I accidentally said, OK, and now, all of my gestures are slipped up
Actually, I just realized that nothing was wrong.

I’m new to being a vip I’m a 39 yr old mom of 5 ages 21 to 4 and it’s hard . Can you maybe explain the more “negative feelings and depression “ side of being a vip? I feel like maybe I’m being over sensitive but I also feel like I’m very alone too and I hoped I wasn’t the only one. #lifeaftersoghtloss

Don’t feel alone, you’re not going through this alone. There are others going through the same situation including myself. It’s a grieving process. There will be good and bad days. The VIP community is a great coping tool as we all have the same thing in common. Keep on moving as this is a door closed and a new one opened moment in life. Hope you have a wonderful day and nice have you in our community.

Hey there Clarissa! Thank you so much for your comment. Let me start by saying you are not alone. So many of us go through such a wide variety of emotions. I actually have several videos on the channel discussing the emotions we face as VIPs. I encourage you to look around. In the meantime, remember that this is hard. Sight loss isn't easy. But, there are lots of us out here, so you can do it! Thanks for sharing and welcome!
