My 2004 rusted completely out unfortunately. Ended up getting a spare tire hitch from Rigid Armor for $550. Works great.

Xreas shit the bed today. And the seal job I did on my transfer case rear output shaft and companion seal didn’t hold up, either cause I suck or cause I used Napa parts and not the super expensive Toyota ones

Super helpful and I appreciate that it was straight to the point. I watched my husband do it once but I needed a refresher because I need to know how to do it myself. I was so glad we checked it because it was all rotted out. It’s nice that it’s out of the way down there but seems like poor placement for a spare because of potential damage. What do you think?
I'd have to agree, you can see in the vid how corroded my wheel is from being down there
What if it's in RWD?
Does it also mess up the diff/transmission as well?
I have 20inch 5th gen wheels on my 4th gen 4runner.
Would a 20 inch wheel on the front left & 17 inch wheel on the front right mess up the diffs & transmission if it's in RWD?
Mine can switch from RWD to 4x4, would like to know the answer if you know.

Luckily I’ve never had to use my spare on my 04, although, I’ve had to use the spare on my 03 Tundra! Took my forever to figure out how to get it down!
So I go to check the air in my spare and find that it’s leaking air. Didn’t want to look at manual so watched your video. Thanks for that tutorial. Appreciate it! Now off to get my spare tire fixed.

Any words of advice for when the rods will not seat in anything? just picked up a 07 4gen and can't get the tire lowered
Did you figure it out? I’m missing the rods to unlock/lower my tire 😭
@@CassieAStone Yes, unfortunately the part that the rods go into was rusted away, I had to cut the cable that holds the tire up. I now carry my spare either in the back or on a hitch mounted tire carrier.
Off topic, what model exhaust tip do you have on your 4Runner
It's a Gibson exhaust, I just did a vid on it recently

I just changed my rear diff fluid, I only was able to fill it back with 2.5 litres.
Was that about what you get out also ?
I can't remember, but if you're on level ground and it's coming out of the fill hole you should be good

What size is your spare tire? Can a 275/70/17 fit as a spare?
Mine's a 255/75/18 - the 275 would probably clear but it'll be tight and hang a bit lower

In the event you or some reads this.
I have had a 4th gen for years. Just hit 200k and I plan on now doing some upgrades. Ew wheels, lights, lift kit, etc.
When I get new wheels, should I get 5 wheels and use the 5th as my spare?
It'll get beat up under the vehicle so I just keep an oem wheel there with a matching tire size
Thanks. Did you guys notice how the suspension rebounds at 1:36 once the tire is lowered? Would a 70lb spare actually cause that much sag? :0 Thought that was weird
Might just be an illusion - it only sags about an inch with a trailer hooked up
How far can you drive with the spare?
I don't believe there's a limit with a full size spare

@@CanadianGearhead oh maybe that Is a feature added To vehicles in Canada all of the Tacoma and 4runners in the usa Have a Steel rope Design
There is an option to rotate tires using the spare so it's not the same tire down there all the time
