Devin Garrett Townsend (born May 5, 1972) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. He founded extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad and was its primary songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist from 1994 to 2007. He has also had an extensive solo career and has released a total of 28 albums across all of his projects as of 2022.
After performing in a number of heavy metal bands in high school, Townsend was discovered in 1993 by a record label who asked him to perform lead vocals on Steve Vai's album Sex & Religion. After recording and touring with Vai, he was discouraged by what he found in the music industry and vented his anger on his 1995 solo album Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing, which he released under the pseudonym Strapping Young Lad. He soon assembled a band of the same name, with whom he released the critically acclaimed album City in 1997. Since then, he has released three more studio albums with Strapping Young Lad, along with solo material released under his own independent HevyDevy Records label.

That last song he plays 'The Death of Music' is a song I got permission off Devin to use in a student film I made back in 2002.
I actually wrote and mailed him a letter asking for permission. He said sure, as long as the film wasn't sold or screened for money. I may still have that letter packed away somewhere.
So I made a really mediocre short film with a really cool soundtrack.

I saw this same trilogy of songs at the "Albert Hall 2" gig last year and basically cried the whole way through. Happy tears :) One of the best nights of my life :) So freaking cool to see others love what I love

New to your channel guys. Just watched your reaction to Heilung which was great! They are so good and I looked back to see you have done good old Devin too. This Holy Trinity is so bloody good! I sadly lost my eldest sister and a brother in law (husband of the youngest of my three sisters) both to cancer earlier this year. My sister's funeral actually rained heavily too and when I listened to this song again a few months back after her funeral I wept so hard. She wasn't a fan of his. She was more into Meat Loaf and Def Leppard but I've loved Devin since his Strapping Young Lad band days. It was just those lyrics about going to the funeral in the rain that got me welled up. However, she did choose that song "This Girl Is On Fire" just before she was about to be cremated. She always had a dark sense of humour, bless her. Anyway, you have a new person looking out for your new videos as I love how close you and your Dad seem. I'm guessing I'm roughly around the same age as your Dad, so it's nice to see such a wonderful bond, especially when music is involved too! Anyway I'll stop waffling now. Maybe check out the band Tool if you haven't done already :)

I was wondering what you meant with the new album, then Dashy said "he's naked" ... ohhh! It's the remastered version of Infinity, one of his old albums. It's funny because the original album had Devin naked and he has the audacity of recreating the image 25 years later. Takes bravery to do so! It's great putting them side by side, on the new one he actually looks a lot more healthy and confident.
