My Virgin Kitchen is a UA-cam cooking channel I created when I wanted to teach myself how to cook and create a video diary of the journey / mrbarrylewis . I have never had a professional lesson & am just your every day chap attempting recipes to inspire you guys to try too. Most uploads are how to recipe cooking videos, but some fun is had too on Sunday Funday when anything goes, including giant foods, mini foods, taste testing foods sent from around the World, food gadgets and many more. Any requests for recipes / cool stuff you've seen let me know! I try my best to reply to as many comments as possible, but please interact with eachother and be respectful :-) #barrylewis - Навчання та стиль
Chloe cracks me up!
"it was a little bit disgusting.."
+meggwon Just a little
hello
I just love it when you have your girls on with you! They are so cute and funny!! 😍😂 You are such a great dad!
how cute are you daughters!!.. soooo lovely
My anzac biscuit recipe was passed down from my mother who got it from her mother and we do it exactly the same every time - looks (and probably tastes) quite different to yours here! Ours are golden brown, soft when fresh and crispy/thin with tiny bubbles in it when cold but after a few days soften again. We use full sized flattened oats not crushed oats as that is just so much better for taste and for texture plus looks nicer! The point of them was to get them thin and hard enough to survive posting in an envelope across the world to men fighting in the world war. I know fr a fact that my recipe variant worked but the question remains, would yours? :)
My relatives were some of the first ones to make these biscuits! Thanks for doing this video Barry!!
First video and already the best. I really enjoyed watching you sharing time like that with your girls.
Brilliant
ANZAC biscuits were a biscuit of choice for those on the home front to send to the lads at the front as they had a great degree of longevity for the long time it took to get from Australia to the Europe.
I would respectfully disagree with your contention that corn syrup can replace the Golden Syrup.. GS is a part of the flavour profile! It wouldn't be an ANZAC biscuit without the GS. It'd be some sort of coconutty oatsy cookie)
There are huge discussions here as to the way we like our "ANZACs" and that is, should they we soft and chewy or crunchy! My personal fave is crunchy and dunked in a cup of tea prior to getting one in ya mouth!
+rastas000 It really doesn't matter. Recipes change wherever they go. Some people might not be able to get Golden Syrup where they come from.
+Luciffrit but it wouldn't be an ANZAC biscuit.. ;)
rastas000 Yes it would, it would just have substituted ingredients. The rest of the ingredients are the same as is the method of producing them.
Put it like this, an ANZAC would not of complained if he was presented with a cornsyrup biscuit.
+Luciffrit Well no. But corn syrup tastes completely different and arguably much worse. So you would've made a garbage biscuit. Use honey if you can't get golden syrup, it won't taste the same either but honey is better than corn syrup.
Not to mention corn syrup is so much worse for humans and the environment.
manheap12 I don't think you read my post properly. Not to mention corn syrup being bad for the environment? I would ask you to explain but I think you made it up on the spot.
Damn. Your girls give pretty solid hi-fives hahaha
I Made this and it is sooo deliciois although mine looked puffy it still tastes so good I'm obsessed. Thanks 😍😋
i think the girls need their own "kids" cooking channel. our whole family loves your videos. keep up the great work.
I will absolutely try it I really love your test in food
So these were the delicious biscuits with pink icing that I enjoyed when I was in primary school, one of the better deserts that the dinner ladies served.
Aaaah, nostalgia. :)
This is the first video i have for your channel seen and i am definitely subscribing
This is so cute! When I'm gonna have kids I want ones like yours!
This is an important part of our Breakfast and TV (Daddy TV) every Sunday.
Your girls are so adorable!
superb , got to love the kids , cracked me up , great video well presented
your kids are awesome and so so funny! i think it's amazing they want to have a hand in cooking at such a young age! You are a cool dad!
Beautiful and cute children! That recipe sounds simple and something I can do :)
Lovely episode. Your girls are excellent presenters. Thank you for sharing this delicious video. Happy New Year.
I have got to make a couple of hundred of these for a gala event at the Kings theatre in portsmouth. It is a 1st WW project & we are going to give these out as the audience come in. Wish me luck!.
You deserve so many more subscribers!!
Omg first I absolutely love Anzac biscuts
Never seen those before! :O cool tasty lookin lol I love golden syrup
My grandfather said during service in World War II One of his mates sister would send ANZAC biscuits that were tougher than the biscuit the Ration hard tack. Hard tack Need to be soaked in hot tea and even then you still soak until it softened enough to bite through. Well the legend goes they used to bash the ANZAC biscuits and a hardtack together and boil it up to make a porridge which they where quite happy about. But his mate sister got engaged and they sent a telegram to the groom at the wedding telling him to join up as he would get better fed.. Funny his mate never received another care package from his sister.
Tysm for this vid i really needed it☺🙂🤗
Perfect cookies!!
Your girls are adorable!
That's so adorable
This is adorable omg.
I never had anzac biscuits but now I'm curious. I like my biscuits a little bit disgusting! :p
So much cute!
That was cool!
They're sooo cute
On a giant food, can you make a giant kinder egg and fill it with lots of little toys and then take it to the children's ward at the hospital xx
your kids are damn sweet ♡
I haven't seen an Aussie on here yet baking Anzac biscuits.. .lol
2tbls golden syrup.
1 tbls bi carb mixed on't 2 tbls water.
Brown sugar 3/4 cup
250 gms butter
1 cup of the dry..
1
Not quite right, from an Australian ;P .. Need more golden syrup. Add bi carb directly to the butter and make it go foamy then pour it straight away
Hey thanks for doing these! The mixture is also popular as an apple or plum crumble topping - ANZAC crumble. Tickity.
+cake in the night
That is the greatest idea I have ever heard.
Do it like a cobbler!
Ohmygod they are so cute.. I could just eat the little one up
The while thing about them being part of WW1 food that was sent to the Front is actually false... "Rather than being sent to the front lines for the soldiers to eat as some people think, ANZAC biscuits were commonly eaten at galas, fetes and other public events such as parades, where they were sold to raise money to support the war effort." Is what wiki says. But I've heard a few different things.
Just a little info xD
I'm from New Zealand and these are my favourite bikkies I could eat all the mixture! I just don't add coconut to mind xD
I haven't tried them yet but I assume they taste like the hobnob biscuits. (You can get them in the uk).
You guys should make a giant Black Forest gateau
Hi 👋🏻! What can I replace the syrup with?
i like it :D
So cute :3
very good round shape !
What dry ingredients did you add?
Oh my gosh Chloe and Phoebe are so adorable (I hope I spelt their names right)
An international recipe that has a half decent chance of legally being able to be sold in Australia as an "ANZAC Biscuit", how uncommon.
(In case you did not know, to market anything as ANZAC in Australia you need to apply to a government department [Department of Veterans Affairs], it is against the law to sell ANZAC merchandise without approval from DVA including ANZAC Biscuits. Recipes deviating greatly from the initial recipe or marketed as cookies or similar are generally rejected and thus can not be commercially sold legally [Coconut is a tolerated modification and has been included for at least 85 years )
Corn Syrup should only be used if Golden is not avalible
There so cute
Your kids are too precious! Love them! Barry, you're okay I guess......jk jk great video!
I think Chloe is my favorite person on youtube
They smell like popcorn to me too!!!
Not Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, because Corps sounds like a dead body, so it is pronounced Australia and New Zealand Cor. PS, I am a scout (in New Zealand it is both boys and girls) and I was in this years (2015) ANZAC dawn parade, because it was exactly a century since the ANZAC landings in 1915
so cute haha, how can you possibly dislike this? :(
i like yr kids and you and yr biritish culture, wow its z10,
Been a while since I've had a anzac biscuit.
#aussieandproud anzacs are my favorite biscuit in australia and i live there
If you are a an Australian you would definitely know before you put it in the oven we get a fork and make a pattern
Made these before at scouts
Ahaha you have the best kids xD
Hi Barry
What about trying to authentically recreate your old 80's school dinners as a series, eh? Combine suggestions and memories from pals and wot not. I only say this because these look like something called 'melting moments' we used to have at lunch. There was a dinner lady who used to make fantastic cakes and always kept one aside for me even though the que had ended. Although, the food in primary school was fuc.. **ahem** flipping horrible for the most part. **SPAM FRITTERS.. TRY 'EM ON YER KIDS!** Blegh.
I actually have a soft spot for SPAM fritters (only with a good chutney or tomato sauce) ;)
Omg. Spam fritters..lol
0:50 i wonder what Chloe is trying to tell Phoebe?
Aaaawwww so cuuuute im gonna die
thank you girls you are so cute, yes im proud to be a auzzie. thank you for shering
you and your girls are so cute together.
We make about 3 batches of ANZAC cookies every year around ANZAC day.
very cute and does some like peppa pig?
trabajamos tu muy bonito
I cannot believe how big the baby is. Stirring, talking... seems like last week she was just a wee baby. Phoebe seems like a great big sister.
ANZAC biscuits weren't quite rations, but thing that could be made with the rations/provisions of the time. All non-perishable ingredients and quite palatable lumps of energy.
oat and coconut cookies(biscuits)
make sure you don't use gmo corn syrup. Monsanto don't have your best interests at heart believe me.
The little one has a strong arm the last high five sounded like a stinger.
I would love to see you have boudin sometime, Barry, I think it might amuse you.
The recipe looked a bit like flapjacks XD
there like flapjacks
Last video you said see you in 2016 it's still 2015!?!?

First, never use corn syrup. It is not a true substitute for Golden Syrup. Second a tip. When measuring Golden Syrup, Maple Syrup, molasses, honey or anything like them. lightly oil the measuring device. That way the syrup will not stick to the spoon or whatever is being used. That is a tip this "home cook" needed before putting the syrup into a bowl then having it scrapped out and leaving a lot behind. There really is a difference between "home cooks" (like this one) trying to be superstars of the UA-cam screen and real chefs.
'nuf sed. plamuk aka travellingchef.
Godlia kaller
Because of how flat you made them, they look like hash browns instead of ANZAC biscuits.
oh i though i only called bicarb soda
I loved Chloe she is just loveable with her body language of saying a little bit I just wanted to kiss her God bless her. I have a question my biscuits were soft when I took them from the oven could you solve my problem please. Thank you
why "virgin" kitchen? great video btw
+|| Lyfti Because he is self taught and a virgin in the kitchen.
When Barry started, he had never cooked before so he had a 'virgin' kitchen has he had never used it. I think he made a video explaining

Slightly confused at the "coconut", do you mean dessicated coconut or something else?
+Chugga60 Its probably shredded coconut
+bref13 After a careful check, I came to that conclusion as well. Thanks!
+Chugga60 yep desiccated is commonly used but any other thicker coconut pieces like shredded/thread is good too.
