The KTM DDS Clutch is unique. DDS stands for Damped Diaphragm Steel and the system uses a single spring component to handle the pressure duties inside the clutch. That single spring component is called the diaphragm spring-also often called a bevel spring- and it’s used instead of coil springs found inside other off-road clutch systems. The benefits of the KTM DDS Clutch are easier clutch pull, lighter weight and the integration of a clutch damping system into the clutch hub to increase durability without sacrificing traction.
Adjusting the KTM DDS Clutch is different than traditional clutches. So, if you’re adjusting, replacing or just inspecting the DDS clutch system, it’s important to follow some simple steps.
Note: KTM DDS clutches are identical in four-strokes or two-strokes. Always work on your machine with the assistance of your owners manual for machine-specific components, settings and special tools you may need.
Never have I seen a video so effectively clear and well done. This was a life saver in time for me. Nice work!
This guy is an absolute legend! Need more content!
Great video. Thanks! I don't understand at 5:02. What is sharper edge in steel plates? Why that points to the outside of the bike?
Very, very clear. Better than some other really great ones out there.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video, It helped me straighten out a few mistakes I made uninstalling a recluse and going to stock setup.
Thanks! We like getting back to basics with maintenance.
best instructional video I have seen! Great, Thank You for taking the time to make this video!
So let’s say a boy dropped his dowel pin after you said not to. How do you get that bad boy out. It’s all apart still and searching with a magnet. Please help!! 2018 KTM SX F.
Thank you, this sped things up a bit today.
What is the wear limits for the the fibers/steels on a dds clutch? Referencing a 19 250 xc but should be atleast the same for 17-19 2st.
Same as husky fc250?
Is the clutch spring washer something you’d replace every time when the clutch plates are worn?
Hi, i have a question, i own a Husky fc450 but i want the fe 450 clutch, can i do that? I use the FC for enducross fun purposes , thanks!!!
I just got a z start pro for my 05 ktm 450 RFS, I have ZERO gap between my friction plate and pressure plate. It’s fully engaged 100%. How do I get the gap? I have all the parts, and it’s put together how Rekcluse says
With a 300xcw 2011, the clutch drags a tad, even with a properly bled line. What is the most common cause? The springs would need replacing?
what happened to the audio track? I heard sound at the beginning, but no narration or any sound after the cycle news splash screen.
UA-cam clipped our sound. Trying to fix it, sorry about that.
Great no-nonsense video.
Just out of interest what is the year and model bike that you are working on? The reason that I ask is that I'm having clutch drag issues with my 2013 300 EXC (UK). I noticed that your pressure plate has locating holes in it for the steel sleeves that the plain plates run on. My pressure plate does not have these holes, the sleeves are shorter on my engine and they just butt up against the pressure plate.
Am i happy that i found this video! Thanks a lot.
I can't seem to get any audio on my phone or ipad. Is this a video you have to pay a subscription for?
The settings weren't really explained, what is the difference between 1, 2 and 3? How is that set?
The manual explains it as: start with 1, then 2, then 3. The video says use the setting that it was disassembled with which seems like a good start to me.
You've probably sorted this by now but 1 is a lighter clutch pull. Technical Riding.
2 is the stock position for everyday use.
3 is a header pull used for Motocross. Clutch will wear slower but is harder to pull.
I've just done mine and switched to 1 and it's light as a feather now.
Sooo, If I'm having a very slight clutch dragging issue, should I move it to the X position? Theres XYZ and its on the Y position now.
Did you ever figure this out?
@@juanjcorredor the answer is yes, and on newer bikes you move it to position 1.
Nice! Thanks, it's good to have clear videos without ramblings ! Much appreciated.
Should the 6 bolts be loosened & tightened in a criss cross /star pattern ? Seems you go circular?
Generally, we always final torque in a cross pattern. initial tightening might be circular depending on how well we think we can control our muscles. But you're right. It's always better to torque across a pattern, not in a circle.
What size is the socket? That is not in tools needed list. Thanks
How often should you replace theese dampers? (times of hours)
What is the advantage of "top" on the washer??
What about torque specs???
Good instructions 👍🏻
what the best oil to put back in on my ktm 200 egs
Excellent video, thanks!
How do i flat the spring?
Can you please send me the link of this holding tool?

The 2017 KTM 350SXF has the standard clutch springs, which KTM four strokes have the pressure ring setup, that replaces the clutch springs ?
The new motocross and XC models all have a diaphragm spring now. There are some years where some have traditional springs and others don't. Even the 250 SX-F gets the big bevel washer spring for 2019. However, it's not "damped" via the rubbers. Apparently the HP output of the 350-up is the deciding factor of the damper use.
So by "top" on the thin ring that goes on the pressure plate, I assume you mean make sure it's the side with top on it faces outward, not toward the top of the bike. :)
Correct! haha...good point.
I was wondering as well....🤣😏
What would be the best think to pre-soak the clutch pack in? For how long?
Engine oil.
What if innerhub is having hard time come off
How do you know when those rubbers are wearing out?
If there is side-to-side play (considerable) and the pins are offset to one side, KTM says it's time to replace them.
I have a rattling noise in the clutch it doesn’t do it when I’m in neutral it dose it when I’m more than half throttle sounds like something is Loose
May be a loose bearing or bolt? Just my educated guess. What kind of bike do you have
Garrett Rainbolt I have four brand new 2019 ktm 250sxf and I guess i got a defective one. My mechanic just picked it up Sunday so we will see what it is has 7hours on it. Definitely hard hours on it, it’s my sand track bike.
@@riderblank8010 yeah, that's an occurrence. We had dirt bike fresh off the lot awhile back, that had a smallll hairline crack in the block. Took it around the loop and the engine blew apart. I know failures are common on new and revised models considering that the manufacturers haven't necessarily worked out every bug, snake and cockroach out of their products
Something tells me this guy's dropped that shit in the motor before.
Haven't we all--haha!
Morgan Davis 😂
Morgan Davis I have
Should there be any play on the clutch baket side to side play ?
I am just starting to worry cause im getting shavings on my magnetic drain bolt. I dont know if its coming from the transmission my oil filter and screen is clean though
Late reply here, sorry! Shavings on the magnet are pretty normal. There is alway stuff wearing inside. There is a little inherent play in the outer basket but there shouldn't be too much on the inner hub and/or in a direction that would indicate a problem with a bearing.
Good video but the whole reason I watched it was to find out the torque specs of the pressure plate and you didn't state it....
KTM using this type of clutch since 2012 (350 exc-f) and since 2014 (other exc-f and exc models)
Two of steel plates are 1.3mm. Manual sais that there are only 2x1.0mm and 7x1.4mm. The reality is: 2x1.0mm, 2x1.3mm, 5x1.4mm
👏👏👍👌🇳🇴
