What do you guys think about keeping the side indicators or deleting them? FYI, I got the parts from Retrospec before he went quiet. Installation videos of CF bits and pieces will be uploaded in the future.
Keep the side indicators! Even the Fairlady Z’s in Japan had them, and I understand the whole seamless thing, but keeping the car authentic is the way to go! At the moment I’m actually trying to figure out my situation so I can buy one for myself. Good luck with your build!
Mine still has the aerial antenna, it's a '75. the only modification was a new stereo, best I can see in the wiring diagram and from what remains of the original wiring is that it was switched with power to the OEM deck. So when you turn the stereo on the motor goes up for a set duration, then down when the stereo is off. (mine is now manual up and down, which should last longer because of they get dirty or rusty they get stuck and slowly burn out the motor) I would wire in the setup from a acura integra, but I am also a heathen so... Maybe the atlantic or hybrid Z forums will tell you.
I had the oem motorized antenna on my '78 280z (even the control on the console worked!) then some asshole pulled it out and broke it in half. I glued the broken antenna, kept it there, and wired my antenna to a no-show box antenna inside instead. And about that rear wheel/tire position, you're not alone. I've always wondered if i'm the only one, turns out they came from the factory like that. Wish you all the best with this Z!
Usually the power antennas are no harder to install physically than the regular kind, as long as they fit. Generally they will need power and ground, plus there's a relay (usually built in, I think) that tends to be triggered by a blue wire that comes out of your head unit. This means the motor only activates when you turn on the radio/ignition/accessory switch, so no, it isn't draining power. The motor makes it go up and stay when you turn it on, then when it's shut off the motor brings it down again. But it stops at the end of each cycle. :)
Also, if anyone makes carbon fiber rear window louvers, that'd be groovy. I had to have louvers on mine, but yaknow, weight and that much more noise. :)
I'm pretty sure the back wheel wells are designed that way, with more area behind the wheel than in front. Take a look at some other Z's before you make a move.
Generally for the aerial, most stereos have a REM out or Antenna out, it supplies power when the stereo turns on to a relay which powers the aerial. Or you could use your ignition as the source to trigger the aerial...nice car :)
Loving the z and its progress! And you have sold me on these fender mirrors! I am going to get some for my 620 build! Thank you for your detailed videos!
Keeping it nostalgic the way you have has been awesome also I was always on the fence of what I wanted to do with the engine but also keeping the L 28 but having something reliable and having just as much power as a dirty swap I’ve decided to get a second job and save up to have an engine built by “Datsun spirit” to me out of all the companies I’ve looked into they seem to understand my needs and have awesome quality in their work 😬
I think the Antenna motor Is air actuated. There's a vacuum line going to the motor that gives the signal for It to go up when the engine turns on. @CZeroMedia
I deleted the markers, door handles and antenna. I love the look with out anything. Was thinking about cutting my drip rails but I heard you can run in to some problems with water getting in. So I will hold of on that for a bit or in tell I want to repair my car. I also have a carbon fiber hood for it to go with the carbon fender flares.
@@Oblithian The paint isn't stripped all the way, most of the car seems solid. I am suspect about the driver side door and rocker being constructed with bondo. I know the bottom of the driver side fender was caked over an inch to an inch and a half in bondo because it had been crumpled up. I carefully worked it down to the metal and then restored the metal with a hammer and dolly back to original shape. I spent a few hours mostly cause the bondo but sad that what little effort it took me to hammer it back into shape that whomever "fixed" it did it by just slapping mud on it.
You should really consider 2jz swapping your Datsun, I drove mine for the first time the other day and it was a dream.. I’ve yet to post a video of the first drive though
My dad owns a 1981 Datsun 280ZX. I love driving it! BUT we're trying to find a part. My dad is older, so I have to do the research. I'll do my best to explain: it is a 1981 Datsun 280zx Headlight Wiper Combination Switch. His headlight dimmer switch is not working. I've been searching all of the Z part sites. Any assistance would be appreciated. We tried Auto Zone...no luck.

I plan on keeping them on mine. Your paint job look good I wouldn't ruin it by welding delete plate

Also I am keeping my side marker lights and wiring them into the turn indicators.
I'd keep em, just that much more coolness and why do anything to that new paint you don't have to. :)
Somehow missed this in my sub box, same feeling when you find cash in your pocket

Please keep the l28 , maybe turbo it , or even put it on itb’s .
L28 turbos are eazy to come by. Just pull one out of a 280zx turbo

Looking so good man. You did it in a good way too. I'm down to a shell, no turning back now haha!
Did you also have to grind through an acre of bondo?

He could probably do a decent job himself if he knows basic sewing.
@@Oblithian i was thinking that he might or they could give him ideas also to help stop it from happening
Rear Window Louvers?
Doing that on mine, great look. but it messes up the airflow if he wants a functioning spoiler.
Which brand are you going with? I have seen silvermines but not sold on it

That would honestly be too much power for me lol. I wanna keep it na and Nissan. But I can't say that I didn't consider jz platform

Car is amazing, I like without carbon fiber. Need rocky auto sticker.✌😎👍
We need an update on how the raptor liner has held up and if rust came back?????
That metallic burnt orange is so much better than the orange on the Hot Wheels car.
I see you have protection beads inside lol
(๑╹◡╹)ノ" *_I’m loving the build so far!_*
you don't need an interior... rip it all out and go drifter style :-)
Are you going to Z con next summer in Tennessee for the 50th Z anniversary?
