I use the leads of my old cast nets, otherwise you can buy lead ingots on Amazon or at certain sporting good stores

They put up a good little fight for sure. Personally I like to fight common carps

I own Penn reels and love the live liner. I’ve used a Shimano but I’m not a fan of the plastic body. It flexes a bit under pressure. The Penns are metal. Shimano also holds less line and costs more $. I’ve never tried the Diawa but they make good reels.

@BitesandStrikesFishing yea you're not kidding about line capacity. The Penn Fierce IV 8000 Live Liner is huge compared to the Shimano 8000 Baitrunner OC reel.

I agree. I generally recommend the Penn Fierce. It’s the best bang for the buck. If you have some extra $ the Penn Spinfisher is a tank.

I use a bobber stop, but just to keep the float near the bait, not to suspend it. In the rivers of you use a bobber stop the bait will float with the current until it hits bottom, normally along the bank.

And just sat on the bank twiddling my thumbs? Nah, I’d rather be catching fish

It depends on the body of water. We located these with a live scope and they were 100 yard out. It’s all about the contour of the lake bottom, what’s on the bottom, the current and even wind directions.

Doesn't happen often but glad I brought the big gear out.

I love it, I've had it for about 3 years now and have landed tons of big gar with it. I've also NEVER serviced it and it's still kicking!
