I just purchased the exact same model with the exact same options as you reviewed. In fact even the same color. I just finished a 1000 mile trip with it. I think it is an absolutely fantastic car. In fact for the trip we averaged 38.3 mpg which was amazing. It rides nice, the seats were comfortable. Had no issues driving it on the highway. Very very pleased with my purchase.
I have noticed this person commenting on other reviews topics for the Trax. It's always negative! I think he really loves this new Trax, since he's checking out all the reviews. Lol😂 I haven't gotten to be old as I am 60+ and have someone tell me what, I want to spend my money own. I love my 2RS 2024 Trax!!
What you guys (& some others) are missing is that the Trax is a small crossover -- front wheel drive is fine. you want AWD, get the TrailBlazer for a bt more; it's a mini-SUV. The Trax is lower, the TrailBlazer is taller w/ higher seating position. I think Chevy deserves credit for having BOTH of these cars.
I picked the FWD because I don't drive the little SUV in snow. Also it was cheaper and gets better gas mileage. I drive the RWD behemoth in snow. Buying with all bells and whistles? Better off leasing. Let somebody else keep up with or deal with the inconvenience of getting those things fixed or replaced when they fail..
Sigh. This could’ve been a more efficient, lighter, quicker, better-handling sedan or hatchback for similar or less money - a Sonic or Cruze. A nice design, but destined for Enterprise and low resale, like base soec Konas and Kicks.
CR has pointed out and proved a FWD vehicle equipped with winter tires is better in snow than AWD with all season tires....but people still rather drive AWD and that comes down to the difference in feel behind the wheel.
The latest GM sales numbers came out today and they're already moving a ton of these. For all its shortcomings, it's a pretty compelling vehicle given the price.
This. Price point. With used car prices still high, this makes so so much sense for a family to have this. Price-conscious buyers in a bind should go with this and enjoy driving under warranty. For many who are just in the market for a car to go from point A to B in an urban setting... this is a fantastic price point.

Context is everything and these guys are missing the big picture. For a family of four with a mortgage making $50K., this is an option few manufacturers offer.
I find that most reviewers these days are kids more interested in the gadgets and race car handling than the practical aspects of a vehicle. Yes, context is important. How well the car will defrost the window when it's freezing outside. Ease of entry exit wearing winter clothes. Gauge visibility at night and a hundred other things.
Yeah....Ford messed up big time on that....they actually corrected it in late 2019 but most "2019" models were manufactured in 2018...like most cars are...prior year manufacturing..
Not sure whay you guys are talking about... perhaps a different car... I have an Activ and I have zero problems... None of the problems you mention. The pickup is zippy. The screens all work. Car is very comfortable. I didn't want to pay $10,000 more for a comfortable arm rest...
For those that complain about this not having AWD, Chevy offering this as a value proposition alongside the Trailblazer that has available AWD is no different than what Hyundai is doing by offering the FWD only Venue alongside the Kona. I think they also forgot to mention that the Trailblazer has more cargo room than the Trax as another difference between the two.
The money you save vs awd allows you to purchase true winter tires which will have a huge impact on winter whether traction. Trust me they make a huge difference, you will go in the snow, but don't forget you have to stop and go around turns and there as well they make a huge difference. I wish more people would try them and spread the word. We would all be better off as a result.
Nothing is forever and even Toyotas, Hondas engines will cease operation. Oil changes at 5k miles and heavy foot driving should be limited and 200.000 miles or more can be reached.......
It's made by GM. How long do you think it will last? (And I don't care about your cousin's neighbor's sister-in-law's boss's son who drove a Chevy for a trillion miles). What difference does it make anyway when the rest of the car is going to fall apart way before the engine?
i own a 2024 Trax 2RS... have owned it for since May 3, 2023... the transmission discord that was discussed in this piece does kind of disappear at around the 2000 mile mark. Fuel economy hovers around 32-38mpg and I run premium fuel in mine (93 octane) as it is not only turbocharged, but direct injection. After 5800 miles here in the Adirondacks of New York and our superduper swell roads, the car still does not rattle or shake. I am, however, having trouble with the window switch for the left rear window. Dealer is addressing at the time of this posting. Other than that, I genuinely love this car and feel that it would've been a homerun with a manual transmission option. The car drives far sportier than it's market segment, especially on the 19" wheels and wide tires GM put at all four corners. The suspension issue that was discussed in the video I have never experienced. The car is super planted even on long sweeping on ramps. With long trips, i found that the lower seat cushion could've been a smidge longer, but that could just be me. I am 6ft 250lbs. Anyways...
That 93 octane gas is a TOTAL waste of money! That premium gas will DO NOTHING to help prevent carbon build up on the back of the intake valves! The better thing to do is use the LOWEST VOLATILITY oil to minimize the amount of crank case oil vapor the gets sucked past the intake valves. The best oil you can buy for a GDI engine is Pennzoil "ultra platinum" full synthetic (and no I don't sell the oil). I got this information from watching "Project Farm" YT channel. He tested ALL the leading oil, including Amsoil, and found that the Penzoil was BEST for DGI engines! Happy motoring in your new Trax!
Bonsoir from Canada! This is the closest in years to a station wagon. I second that idea of a manual transmission. I want to stay away from the automatics as long as I can. Not that I drive fast: I just like shifting gears. Heck, I learned to drive on a Citroën DS! (Four-speed on the column, like the old trucks, but so refined in many other ways...)
I just bought an RS2 Trax, it's going to be a perfect commuter for me. I test drove it on the SswMillRiverParkway a twisting up/down road, it was fine. This is a great value, enough tech to keep you from feeling entry level. Some of us can't afford to pay $40k , so this should scare Ford and Stelantis.
Yes, I agree. I purchased a Nissan Kicks SV for the price and the feature and availability. I didn't know about the Trax then. Toyota vehicles are way overpriced these days.
You could have bought a 3- 5 Honda or Mazda , Toyota.woth a proven 4 cylinder motor.I been a wrench turner over 50 yrs. All those plastic parts are going to wear out and break. Also that internal timing belt if it breaks ,trash that engine. My call after 50 K.of driving more problems then it is worth.
It is only offered with FWD to keep the price down, to give it more interior room than the Blazer with a smaller size, and using older tech like a 6 speed automatic. Overall an interesting car and depending on sales it could be a winner (along with the Buick Envista which is its twin). My question to CR is what other car at this price is this good? Is the Nissan Kicks a better car or worse? I think they rank it lower. So I understand the complaints, but the price point makes it hard to hate this car.
I wouldn't even think about any Nissan with a CVT. Nothing but problems, especially in the low-end models like the Versa, Sentra and presumably the Kicks as well.
I have a Kicks. Thus far it is a pleasure to drive. No problems and loads of features for a reasonable price. The zero gravity seats are very comfortable. Plus, I can get 43.8 MPG on the expressway.
folks, this is a family car, no a race car, keep in mind that before said something else. It is a basic car ... with a ton of features .... if you want luxury, power etc etc ..get a Lexus, BMW ... o something else ..!!! Chevy made a lot with this great new SUV ...!!!
Bought the 1RS Nitro yellow from Hornbeck Chevrolet in April just under 4,000 miles I love it. Compliments to your podcast and Chevrolet best vehicle I ever owned.👌
You cannot get under MSRP but after getting pissed about trying to buy a used Hyundai, we went back to the Chevy dealer and got the Trax. As long as we maintain the thing well, fingers crossed it will last many years. She won’t put more than 5-6k miles on it per year (smart move would have been a high mileage any small car, i guess), but i wanted to have a warranty. I am fine with the 6 speed vs a CVT that’s for sure.
I recently purchased a 2024 active. I like it mostly. The issues I have are: the seats are not comfortable, loud road noise and agree that turning at fast speeds I feel a skipping and floating.
we have owned a 2RS Trax for 5 weeks now and im 6feet and she is 5 feet 3 and we are very comfortable with it ours has the digital dash 19 inch wheels and rides well. we traded a 23 Bolt in for this car
@@imdone1967 Why would you think this? I have 15 year old TV's.. I would say a analog dash is likely to have more issues... you have mechanical parts in it. Digital has none.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q lol, no. The whole reason a diesel adds thousands to the price of a vehicle is because it's built like a diesel. These crappy little turbo engines are cheap and cheap means they aren't anywhere near as robust as a diesel.
I’m happy with my Corolla sedan, but as a male buyer I’m pleasantly surprised with the relatively butch profile of the Trax. Compared to the Kona or Corolla Cross it’s handsome.
If the 1.2L 3 Cylinder turbo was brand new i personally would pass, but the trailblazer from Chevy been using this engine since 2020 and no recalls or engine failures........
I'm in a 2024 Trax group. Someone reported engine failure at 700 miles. It was probably just a lemon. It happens. I'm still nervous about the reliability of this vehicle though. GM Korea has a terrible reliability track record. They make more terrible engines than good engines.
If this car had a Japanese, Korean or European logo on it, you guys would be gushing over everything about it. The fact that this comes from an American brand, you guys have to be overly critical. I'm totally fine with reviewers actually reviewing cars objectively, but there is a concerning trend over the years from car journalists to give foreign brands a free-pass on issues, while being absurdly nitpicky with American cars.
I know you are questioning the 6 speed transmission but it's way better than a CVT and will probably be more reliable. I'm glad GM decided to offer those.
I just bought a fully loaded Trax Activ and it's a great crossover - upgraded from a 2012 Equinox LTZ. Was looking at Blazer EV but current interest rates are terrible, even with great credit. Honestly, the fully loaded tech for 27k is a steal. This beats my old Equinox in every way, besides not having a rear cup holder and a part shortage which strangely resulted in the backup camera not giving warnings/beeps so try to snag one that does have rear park assist. Adaptive cruise control is amazing as is wireless android auto. In my phone settings I changed Android Auto to connect automatically and I've had 0 problems with connectivity. I also highly recommend the interior protection package, the mats fit snug and will protect your rugs in muddy climates.
CR is too critical... I think its so much car for the dollar; I cant think of a better made car for this money. The mentioned connectivity may not be the fault of the car but the phone itself but we tend to blame the car tech. In terms of material feel or percieved quality, it is no worse than any other brand in this price class. Even BMWs have hard plastics in their vehicles at 2x. 3x the price. I think their is some bias in the comments here.
Yet the Mazda CX30-has a very high-quality interior for not much more money and 50 more standard HP. The Trax is very nicely styled and does pack a lot of features per dollar, marketing the same way Hyundai/Kia used to do.
CR has ALWAYS been biased against ALL American Manufacturers....even when they don't deserve it....just broadbrushing negative statements even when new engines / transmissions are in play..
With the Trax, GM has re-focused the purpose (existence) of Chevrolet: Provide a value, entry level vehicle (could be a first-time car buyer), who will eventually move to a Buick, then a Cadillac. In the late 60s after my parents married, their first car was a Bel Air. A few years later they bought a 77 Olds Cutlass, then a 1984 Buick Riviera, (mom got a 1990 Reatta) and then a 1994 de Ville. They (and many others) wouldn't have stayed in the GM family if their familiarity with the brand didn't start at the value purchase of a Chevrolet.
I was a Honda guy for a while, but I had to get a diesel pickup to pull my 10,000lb trailer. I got an '04 Duramax. I really liked it, especially with how much easier it is to service it. I think GM investing in their trucks is key to getting people to buy their other vehicles.
I have the base model. I like how it looks and it's affordable. I took it on a long trip and was impressed by the gas mileage. It has been having some technical gitches though, as well as rough gear shifts in stop and go traffic. Also, not sure if mine actually has emergency breaking. It has the alert system though.
Last week got a 2025 metallic black Activ Trax, which I'm about to top 1,000 miles. What a great vehicle. Chevy nailed it. I traded in my 455 HP 2016 Camaro SS 6 speed for it, and I'm saving a ton on gas, a rough estimate 5k over the next 4 years. Not to mention insurance and maintenance. Was about to have to spend 2 to 3 grand on a clutch, and 1k in tires. For the price and what you get it's amazing. Also drawn to it because styling wise it reminded me of my Camaro, inside and out . The car drives really smooth, even compared to my Camaro with magnetic ride, and the body roll in corners, while not up to snuff to my Camaro, is great. Only thing going from a 455hp car to this one is the fun factor, but it's peppy enough. I will miss the speed of my Camaro, but what I'm saving is amazing. Plus, it's just temporary. I'm looking to buy a house when the market turns, and the money I'm saving will help tremendously. Once the house is in the rearview, I'll get another sports car. But for now this makes financial sense. Love to drive it, it looks good, and minus the drop in HP, couldn't be happier. Also, I don't have a ton of Mustangs, Challengers, and ricers wanting to race me 24/7, which I usually can't resist doing. A win/win.
It's a shame everything has to be an "SUV", the Trax looks good and would look even better if it sat 2-3" lower still with less of an airgap between the tires and fenderwells. But then it would be a wagon and thus, salesproof.
But what makes you sure it won't be reliable? sub 2.0 liter turbo engines have been fairly common in Europe for years... And manufacturers simulate EVERYTHING, so they should have a good idea about reliability... It also makes 162 lb-ft of TORQUE thanks to the turbo, which is 30 lb-ft more than you get on a base 2.0L 4 cyl Mazda 3!
Just put a deposit on a 2RS Cacti Green. The color is either going to be jaw-dropping or stomach turning. Saw an orange exterior 2RS Trax and it was really impressive looking. Hoping the Cacti Green is as cool as I think it will be. The fact Chevy is offering that color on the 2024 Corvetter C8 is reassuring, haha
I think this is some of Chevy's best work recently - and it came out of nowhere. I would like one with the Voltec powertrain and an extra rear electric motor for part-time AWD. With 50 miles of added EV range for $30k this would be the perfect daily driver.
A suggestion: In your full online review, please start to include where the vehicle is assembled, as well as the manufacturing location of the engine, transmission and any other major parts you deem appropriate. Thank you.
@@chili-rye123 Why ask a question that you know the answer to? If you don’t care, then don’t read it. Don’t look it up. And finally, why does it seem to bother you that it’s important information for many people?
@@CaesarDarias uh, okay.... I am curious WHY this matters to you (or "many people"). I just want to understand what factors you may be considering that I should too, is all.
No. Ford has regretted ever doing it themselves. GM's VERY optomistic 150,000 mile "check" on it, not replacement, check, is just stupid. This is the worst part of the engine, period.
Look at articles about the PSA group 1.2 wet belt engines. This engine is a variation of that one. PSA now no longer uses the wet belts and has reverted to timing chains. I'm not sure about the oil pump.
I drive a 2021 Spark, which is surprisingly good for what it is. I've used it for three long trips including recently from Phoenix to Los Angeles where it did great. (48mpg at one point and even saw three digit speed briefly) Consequently I don't care one bit about "driving dynamics" and pretending I"m a racing driver on the Nurburg Ring. The only things that matter when you are no longer 12 years old are comfort, reliability and can you afford it. The dealership has been pestering me constantly to "upgrade" to one of these ever since they came out. There are many things about it I like. I don't care about lack of AWD. AWD is a complete waste of money unless you live in Canada, Upstate, New York, Vermont, Alaska, etc where snow and ice are a real issue. Other than that it's just an expensive marketing gimmick. I note that this car seems to have the same issue my Spark has with wireless connectivity. I'm also Android and bluetooth will not maintain connectivity with the car. I have to re-connect almost every time I start the vehicle and it will sometimes disconnect while driving. Looks like it might be a GM thing. We have a Ford van at work which has never lost connection to my phone since the got it a year ago so It's a vehicle thing, not my phone. So I guess I'd be plugging in with the cable as well. The only thing that would really concern me about this vehicle is the inadequately sized engine utilizing a Turbo to try and compensate along with the wet timing belt. That alone makes me think of this vehicle as something you lease and dump before the warranty is up rather than own long term. i guess time will tell.
Try it, they actually sounds amazing... better engine sound than a 4 cyl. They sound more like a Inline six. Triumph Motorcycles has used them for decades. As to reliability? Who knows..
Ugh... did you say "stop / start" system?? That just blew it for me. I thought these auto makers had all decided "stop/start" was a stupid, stupid invention?
@@chili-rye123 The Trax competes with the Toyota Corolla Cross. That vehicle STARTS at over $26k. That's about a $5k premium. It damn well better be a better vehicle.
2RS drives perfectly and feels great all features work better then a $50,000 vehicle and that Trax is fast I don't care what anyone says and I have yet to have any problems with power at all pretty fast and it turns heads also coming to a stop and getting back on it and turning and back and forth or whatever the Trax is in my opinion is pretty dam good and Transmission downshifts perfectly. Why must you have people talking crap on great affordable vehicles like the Trax don't drive one if your gonna complain like babies go buy your $100000 lame vehicles. Again downshift is perfect you call yourself engineers I don't think so get with it or talk about something else!
Chevrolet should own this $20k to $30k segment. They should bring out another option within this price segment. They can import or do CKD with foreign models too.
Lots of questions about the engine and reliability. It's never mentioned here, but this is not a GM design, it originally was designed by PSA and has been around for almost a decade. Biggest concern is the timing belt in oil and your decision to use the correct oil and adhere to frequent OCIs.
Unless you absolutely need the cargo space of a wagon/SUV, I'd still go for the Hyundai Elantra SE. It has fantastic fuel economy, peppy performance, good ride & handling, roomy interior, and a much more reliable port-injection naturally-aspirated engine.
I do use CR when making decisions on purchases. I have never watched a CR video like this before. I found it very interesting. As for the Trax, almost anyone who pays attention the statistics already knows how reliable it will be. Finally, the fuel economy numbers listed on the Chevy website would make this a hard pass! 30mpg? That is an awful number given the drive train. I remember when the cheapest cars had the best mpg.
Because to make it among the cheapest cars on the road, it uses old tech (6 speed auto) with new less expensive tech (3 cylinder engine). You don't want that, spend an additional $5000 and buy a gas engine Toyota Corolla. Better gas mileage, better tech. Or spend $8000 more and get the Corolla Hybrid.
Unfortunately, CR has adapted to the times. What these people look for in a car is not at all what I look for. CR used to be very impartial and you would almost think that they hated cars. Not everyone can or want to buy a $100,000 vehicle.
I remember when the Geo Metro was rated at 58mpg highway. You’d think that with the improvements in technology even with increases in weight, numbers like this would still be possible. The Metro had old fashioned carburetor.
Reliability is still an unknown. The "old" Trax was MUCH above average in reliability, according to CR! I trust CR's data. Having recently purchased a USED 2020 Blazer 2LT V6 with 52000miles on the clock. I have owned it for only 7mo, had absolutely ZERO issues! And ZERO recalls. I purchased it because it already on CR's list of "The Most Reliable Used Cars" list and I wasn't disappointed. Thanks CR!!!
They were actually very complimentary of it, if you'd watched further. Every car has shortcomings, even the luxury brands they've been addicted to for a while.
This car is not let down by the transmission at all, the fact its NOT a cvt is the best oart of the vehicle! One can use all the power without pinning the rom to max indefinitely as what fappens with cvt's.
As for the brown color: my Chevy Malibu was the color of a UPS truck. But it lasted 17 years and was still going strong. My father would not allow me to drive it anymore because he said the floor was too rusted. I think it would have been okay and I could have gotten more years out of it.
My 2019 Ford Escape had the same abrump turbo bump, and also had bad marriage with transmission. In cold weather, it was a lump. Couldn't get beyond 30 without turbo bump to overcome slowness.
this will be interesting i just got my hands on one today. haven’t had a chance yet to let it run wild from the dealership to home. lots of stuff i need to learn
Not necessarily. AWD adds weight and complexity, which can actually hinder handling. The only real benefit to AWD is increased traction in low traction scenarios, which 95% of people will never encounter, and you’re better off getting better tires before switching to AWD at that point.
Hey Consumer Reports, one segment you always forget is Seniors. Just once I wish you would get their thoughts. Yes, young people make up the majority of sales, but dammit get our thoughts once in a while. Think about features we would finf important. Same goes to the manufactures. they should take some things important to us under advisement.

@@TheOzthewiz So was I I am 75. These days the most important thing for me is reliability. And this is not that vehicle. It has a Turbo which puts more heat under the hood and those plastic cooling system components as in thermostst housing water pump being plastic and in a very hot environment dry out quicker and crack leaving you with a overheated engine along the side of the road. You guy's must be iphone users. I haven't experienced any connectivity issues with my Android phone and who drives with their left arm resting on the door car? I'm on my 41st vehicle and never have and it's not hard plastic, at least on the 2RS. I haven't experienced any of the handling or ride issues on my 2RS that you guy's mentioned. As far as the transmission goes would I like an 8 or 9 speed, of course, but it would be more expensive. I bought this as an in between vehicle coming from a 2023 Audi S3 and I have to admit I'm blown away with this Trax and it's abundant features and if it had the 2.0t and an 8 speed I would probably keep it for awhile. I also bought my daughter the ACTIV and she loves it.
The turbo 3-cylinder engine would be a concern as far as longevity. A friend had a Bronco Sport with a 3-cylinder engine and it was a POC! Many brands have stumbling transmissions, most notably another friend's Honda Odyssey with a nine-speed automatic.
All I3 turbo motors are having problems including many I4 turbos. Coolant/oil intrusion and turbo failures after 60,000 miles or so. This includes Honda with the CRV.
It isn't any heavier than a Malibu. It drives 'lite'. You feel every bump. But it does have nice features. I got one 6 weeks ago, and the more I drove it the more I liked it. But I've been reading about some 2024 Traxes blowing holes in their engines with only a few thousand miles on them, I'm guessing because the timing goes off or some spark timing software bug that might affect some of the vehicles - pistons collide with the valves, or whatever else happens, and engine parts are shot out of the engine block. Look for Trax Engine Failure. Posts that are recently dated are still saying it's happening, even after a spark timing software recall that was applied recently.
Many have said it- there is no such thing as a bad new cars. Yes, some are better than others, often in different areas, but overall, all cars are decent. Hybrids have higher fuel economy and better start/stop but have a CVT and higher starting price along with a battery replacement in 10-15 years. KIA’s are great cars to lease, Toyotas and Hondas are great for keeping it 10+ years (Toyota less with the subscriptions required). Some cars have higher safety than others. As a car… any modern new vehicle is going to get you from A-B for the most part. That is why vehicles are considerably more expensive now. Automakers have forced us to think we need expensive vehicles, AWD, high vehicles, big engines, 3 rows, beds, hitches, towing capacity, etc. We don’t. The automakers can suffer now- people who won’t buy it because it is not AWD.
I have the older 2018 Trax. That year they have awd and the 6 speed. The 6 speed isn't a CVT with was a selling point for me. Not a whole lot of power, but moves ok. I wouldn't buy a newer one because no AWD. I want awd if it's a crossover.
JD Power ranks Chevy 4th in reliability behind Lexus/Toyota and Buick. Not bad. Not bad at all. Consumer Reports has historically bashed Chevy. Take that into consideration.

Gauge visibility at night and a hundred other things.
Because of the coolant intrusion issue, I traded in my 2019 ford escape 1.5L for the Trax. To be honest, im very happy with it.
Yeah....Ford messed up big time on that....they actually corrected it in late 2019 but most "2019" models were manufactured in 2018...like most cars are...prior year manufacturing..
Couldn't get away from trash that's sad lol
Are you having the power windows not working on the Trax?
Prepare yourself to service the wet timing belt on the trax engine.
You should have gotten the S trim on that Escape with the vastly more reliable 2.5L non turbo engine.

Million dollar question: How long will the tiny 1.2 three cylinder engine last ?
Nothing is forever and even Toyotas, Hondas engines will cease operation. Oil changes at 5k miles and heavy foot driving should be limited and 200.000 miles or more can be reached.......
It's made by GM. How long do you think it will last? (And I don't care about your cousin's neighbor's sister-in-law's boss's son who drove a Chevy for a trillion miles). What difference does it make anyway when the rest of the car is going to fall apart way before the engine?
It will last 200-300k miles if synthetic oil is used and it’s changed every 10k-15k miles.
Sure hope it's better than Ford's 1.0 Ecoboost. Many of those couldn't even make it to 100k.
About 30001 miles.
Congrats to GM for making the Trax. I hope they can address the issues that the panel mentions in the near future. Not a bad looking small UTE.

i own a 2024 Trax 2RS... have owned it for since May 3, 2023... the transmission discord that was discussed in this piece does kind of disappear at around the 2000 mile mark. Anyways...
Are you having the Android Auto/Apple Carplay issues they mentioned? Can you connect it with wire if necessary?
I agree with inflation this is affordable for the majority of us. I’m not trying to impress people and I want to save my money down the line .
How much?
You could have bought a 3- 5 Honda or Mazda , Toyota.woth a proven 4 cylinder motor.I been a wrench turner over 50 yrs. All those plastic parts are going to wear out and break. Also that internal timing belt if it breaks ,trash that engine. My call after 50 K.of driving more problems then it is worth.
I like this group of reviewers. I would watch more of them.
I had low expectations also.
I drove one,I bought one, and I love it.
Well said.
@@nodak81 The Altima has a CVT, and it's still very reliable, same with the Rogue and the Murano, atleast according to CR
I have a Kicks. Thus far it is a pleasure to drive. No problems and loads of features for a reasonable price. The zero gravity seats are very comfortable. Plus, I can get 43.8 MPG on the expressway.
I like the idea of the Trax but would prefer a normally aspirated 4 cylinder over the turbo 3..
For the shifting problems use the manual shift button on the shifter knob. You can make the car shift when you want, upshift, downshift.
Plus it will turn off start stop

So, what do you consider "cheeep"?
I think for the money this would make a good city car.
100% agree, city vehicle and less highway driving. Only a 6 speed tranny.......
Nope. The mpg is really sub par considering.
For the city, excellent, but for LONG distance HIGH SPEED running, not so much!
Trax is so awesome and affordable ... for me it is a sedan with a suv look ..... !!!!! so beautiful .... !!!
I recently purchased a 2024 active. I like it mostly. The issues I have are: the seats are not comfortable, loud road noise and agree that turning at fast speeds I feel a skipping and floating.

Small turbo engines being required to do the work of larger engine will wear out faster.
That is totally untrue. The turbo engines are built almost like a diesel. They actually outlast their naturally aspirated counterparts.
In general yes but this can be mitigated by being overbuilt. The question is did GM do that.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q lol, no. The whole reason a diesel adds thousands to the price of a vehicle is because it's built like a diesel. These crappy little turbo engines are cheap and cheap means they aren't anywhere near as robust as a diesel.

AND............SUPER reliability!
@@palebeachbum Yeah...the American GM 3.6 engine is now super reliable ironically....
South Korea doesn't make the 1.2 engine, it's made in Mexico.

Hondas and Toyotas have issues that why those dealerships have Service Department and trust me they work on newer models issues.......
it's not american,! both trax and trailblazer are rebadged Daewoo, from south korea. same for the two Buick versions......🤨🙄😳💯💥

CR does not have a bias! They are simply informing you of shortcomings. Those HARD PLASTIC arm rests would bother ME especially on long drives!
Yeah but now you can get any type of Toyota and then jump the Lexus. Sedans or SUVs. GM doesn’t have small cars or a depth of hybrids.

Just bought a silver-grey Trax Active and I love this car. 3 cylinder coupled with a 6 speed shift is no issue for me
Thank you for sharing your viewpoints. I want to like this vehicle, but the additional dealer markups on the price stopped me from buying.

Not going to lie, but the interior looks way better than 23’ Lexus NX350H..

Love the Trax myself.
YUP! We "AMERICANS" LOVE SUVs...........FULL STOP!
The elephant in the room to me is that 1.2 litre. I just wished GM had an optional na 2.0 or 2.5 litre engine for more reliability.
But what makes you sure it won't be reliable? sub 2.0 liter turbo engines have been fairly common in Europe for years... And manufacturers simulate EVERYTHING, so they should have a good idea about reliability... It also makes 162 lb-ft of TORQUE thanks to the turbo, which is 30 lb-ft more than you get on a base 2.0L 4 cyl Mazda 3!
agree with the hard plastic door armrests...why did they skimp there???
Thank you.

GM KOREA! There, satisfied now?
What about the drive belt? Is this wet belt technology any good?
What, no viewer questions? Bummer. That’s a segment I always enjoy.
3 cylinder is the deal breaker for me 😞
Pretty soon that's all that's going to be available. After that, just boring EV cars.

You can disable the start/stop every time you start the car.

And it's a turbo...
MY biggest concern would be THE TURBO nearing 100Kmiles. A BIG chunk of change to replace!
I heard it is essentially a rebadge Daewoo....under GM ownership....
Unless you absolutely need the cargo space of a wagon/SUV, I'd still go for the Hyundai Elantra SE. It has fantastic fuel economy, peppy performance, good ride & handling, roomy interior, and a much more reliable port-injection naturally-aspirated engine.
I had a VW Jetta rental. At 60mph it was doing 52mpg. The Trax simply cannot match this at all.
It also has a garbage CVT. No thanks.

The "old" '23 Trax is has a MUCH BETTER THAN AVERAGE reliability, while your Elantra has FALLEN to just AVERAGE RELIABILITY!
I've been watching the podcast off and on for the past few years, the team at CR is great. Always entertaining, almost guaranteed to laugh.
Thanks CR!!!
only CR picks apart a Very Affordable car that is probably a Software update in the throttle mapping. I had to stop watching 1/3rd in.
They were actually very complimentary of it, if you'd watched further. Every car has shortcomings, even the luxury brands they've been addicted to for a while.

5years/60kmi for the power train, 3yrs/ 36kmi for bumper to bumper..
This car is not let down by the transmission at all, the fact its NOT a cvt is the best oart of the vehicle! One can use all the power without pinning the rom to max indefinitely as what fappens with cvt's.
I thought trax only has CVTs lol
CR, Value proposition? Please explain how a Chevy made in South Korea differentiates itself from a Daewoo? 😂
One is named "Daewoo", the other is "GM KOREA"! Does that answer your question?

As for the brown color: my Chevy Malibu was the color of a UPS truck. But it lasted 17 years and was still going strong. My father would not allow me to drive it anymore because he said the floor was too rusted. I think it would have been okay and I could have gotten more years out of it.
My 2019 Ford Escape had the same abrump turbo bump, and also had bad marriage with transmission. In cold weather, it was a lump. Couldn't get beyond 30 without turbo bump to overcome slowness.
That is why CR has the 2018 thru 2021 Escape on their "WORST used cars to buy"! Sorry about the bad news!

AWD helps handling on dry roads too.
Not necessarily. AWD adds weight and complexity, which can actually hinder handling. The only real benefit to AWD is increased traction in low traction scenarios, which 95% of people will never encounter, and you’re better off getting better tires before switching to AWD at that point.
I don’t how the radio controls are on the back of the steering wheel instead of being on the front of the steering wheel like other cars have it

No one south of Maxson Dixson line needs 4wd, heated seats & steering wheel,. plus wld be A/C seats
They DO, if they want to do some "off roading"!
How long can a General Motors three cylinder car last?
I have ordered a 2025 2RS. Should be here in three months.
Any update
AWD is not necessary in much of the country.
I like the design but I'm really against turbo engines. I wish they used a na 2 liter engine.
I have the older 2018 Trax. That year they have awd and the 6 speed. The 6 speed isn't a CVT with was a selling point for me. Not a whole lot of power, but moves ok. I wouldn't buy a newer one because no AWD. I want awd if it's a crossover.
Nice car, wish it was AWD and had more power. I could buy one of these for less than one bitcoin. 😅
JD Power ranks Chevy 4th in reliability behind Lexus/Toyota and Buick. Not bad. Not bad at all. Consumer Reports has historically bashed Chevy. Take that into consideration.
Saying "heated seats and steering wheel" means they are both heated.
Did you say three cylinder?
Yeah! I am already waiting for a TWO CYLINDER version (with cylinder de-activation), probably will be made by Briggs &Scrap-um. LOL
I like the new Trax, especially in Cacti Green, but never buy a car in its first year of production
The Trax looks sleeker and more sophisticated than the Trailblazer whose thick C pillars and total lack of quarter windows already looks dated.
I would take it simply for the fact that it is VERY RELIABLE!
It would be nice if the side vent windows made a comeback
