      This was actually under edited and long winded for the small bit of material here. This could have easily been summarized in just 2 minutes. I suppose if you're not familiar with this information, it might have been entertaining enough but I had to skip through, only to find they never got to the meat and potatoes of the experiment yet.

      @@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism Right, 8+ minutes of various manufactured scenes to get to a pretty simple experiment, which actually if done right I'm interested in the results. But I swear find me a continuous scene that's longer than like 3-4 seconds in duration. Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut. Makes me stressed out trying to watch it, that's what I mean by over editing. Whatever this "style" of TV production is, with only semi-real interactions but the hosts, it's so played out and generic. This will only last a season or two for lack of viewership and they'll all be scratching their heads wondering why. The idea is cool, Tory brings the legacy, but bring it down to earth. I actually pay for MTOD ha. Not everything they offer is good, but the classics are still great and the motorsports content is worth it.

    As a professional truck driver, I was trained that when your trailer starts fishtailing and trying to jackknife, DO NOT APPLY BRAKES. Accelerate to get ahead of the trailer. Applying brakes could cause the wheels on the trailer to lock up and lose traction, which will lead to jackknifing.

      Doesn't take a trained genius to figure out that if the tail of the trailer has moved to the side, out of alignment with the car, and you brake, the tail of the trailer will want to continue forward from the side, passing the slowing car and causing a wreck. It's inertia. That's just common sense. But there isn't too much of that left anymore.

    My bet is you need to increase the weight on the rear axle, so it looks like the gas pedal is your friend here and the brake makes it worst. If you want, I can make a video explaining how to change the dynamic weight in a car. I would start with a 8'5 minutes preparation and then I will finish the vídeo 😉

    you have a small scale representation of the problem, yet you didn't do any testing for the solution? sounds like someone was just itching to spend a few 10's of thousands in production costs just to have some fun rolling a truck. sway happens to mobile homes for different reasons than an improper load. usually the wind is the biggest factor, but wind barely contributes to the sway in utility trailers or flatbeds. your examples and demonstrations do not make sense together

    It absolutely works. I have done it twice in my life and have seen it done countless other times. There are videos all over youtube that demonstrate it
    Where they go wrong in this video, is they work on the assumption that the swaying trailer is caused by incorrect load/tongue weight and the vast majority of the time, the issue is actually caused by either wind or coming down a hill.

    If u hit the trailer brakes and the swerving causes light sided tires to lock up which will cause it to slide out than ur Human reaction to tryn save it is to let off which quickly swerves back likely Flipn or if it does the sway while turning it will most likely flip or lose its load.

  • @jcjaramillomo

    The longer the trailer the more rotational inertia the harder to correct the sway, for example the caravan on the video.

  • @utube1818
    @utube1818 7 місяців тому

    If trailer sway starts at a high enough speed to cause the trailer to flip, then unless you are in a very powerful car, you simply won’t have the reaction time to gain enough power before total loss of control. So rather than speeding up the car doing the opposite, slowing down the trailer is the more effective method. This is why automatic systems which apply the trailer brakes only work so well. In the UK most caravans are fitted with a AL-KO Trailer Control (ATC). Personally I would not tow a caravan without one.

  • @louisevad6091
    @louisevad6091 Рік тому

    IMO trailer sway should not be attempted to be corrected by speeding up the tow vehicle. I think the safest emergency maneuver is to apply trailer brakes only to slow down both vehicles. Adjust tongue weight distribution and a properly installed mechanical sway kit can help. What is new to the market and will be the future in towing will be electronic sway control

  • @brysonbregantini4356
    @brysonbregantini4356 2 роки тому

    It's physics. The truck and trailer are like a guitar string and oscillate when excited. As you increase the tension, the frequency it oscillates at will increase and the amplitude will decrease. Applying throttle increases the tension between truck and trailer, and if the frequency of oscillation is increased faster than the truck and trailer can respond to, and the sway will stop. I'm disappointed nobody on the show understands basic physics.

    Accelerating out of sway will probably work, but then what? Then you're going faster when it starts to sway again, because you can't keep accelerating forever. Next time it sways it's going to even worst at your now, higher speed. Letting off the gas and enacting the trailer brakes and never, never, never touching the truck brakes, does work. It's the only safe way. If you load a trailer incorrectly just one and experience trailer sway, you'll never load a trailer incorrectly ever again lol. I know. Thankfully my tow truck was a dually. No way a srw would have held her. Loading a bit too much up front, to force the truck to squat if anything, is the way to go if you can't tell if you have enough tongue weight.

    • @dustintunis9347

      It happened to me once when I was 18 or 19. I hit the gas and it seemed to make it worse, though I think if I would have given it a few seconds I would have pulled out of it. In my case it was going downhill that would get it started. It swayed a bit a couple of times on small hills, then I started down a bigger hill (not big, just bigger, I'm in Illinois), and I finally realized that it was the trailer trying to pass going downhill, but I figured it out too late for my inexperience and the straps broke and the car ended up in the ditch. If I would have stayed in the gas (and it worked) then I could have slowed down going up the next hill.

      Steve: Proper weight distribution. Keeping the center of mass above/slightly forward of the axle prevents rearward leverage against the hitch. Improper loading amplifies any external forces: Sudden steering/braking inputs or slipstream/wake from passing commercial trucks. Aviation analogies: Avoid being the single engine aircraft behind the 'heavy' on approach/departure path. Or the 737 charter, missing tail stand support during offload. Stationary tail strike/forward gear 3m off the tarmac. (Boeing 737-900 UAL2509 LAX-LWS 17Sep2021)

    This is a joke right lmao. Yep speed up an see what happens. If the trailer is loaded wrong an sways at lower speeds what do you think is going to happen when speeding up an try to slow down "disaster". Glad i don't have the app not worth the time watching.
