    The bike flip is real. I have experienced a small version of this myself when I got a fishing pole stuck in the front spokes of my bicycle and totally flipped frontwards and landed on my face. That's how I learned to not transport hard objects in a bag hanging from my handle. ;)
    I can only assume that with greater speeds (and maybe a motor, unlike the motorbike in this episode) the flip would be a lot faster and maybe even a little airborne. Their test here was insufficient imho. If you use real spokes and not steel most of them would break, the fork would go down, touch the ground and the bike should flip forwards at nearly full speed (provided the pole does not break before enough spokes are gone). The need for repeating everything with one wheel kinda screwed over the whole test imo.

      My friends and I as kids used to throw sticks in bike spokes while riding trails. It totally is real.
      Edit: Thinking about this more, it's not the bike inherently its the sharp stop at the front that sends your weight to the front of the bike causing it to flip. Doesn't work the same with a dummy

      Just hear the explanation from Adam at the end. The amount of force to make it go flip like that is way higher than anything that the motorcycle by itself can generate.

    Why does the bike flip if I hit the front brake really hard but the pole doesn't get the same effect? I mean, the only thing here is the front wheel stopping...

    • @redshirt49
      @redshirt49 27 днів тому +5

      The type of bike used plays a role here. It's very back-heavy and has a very low and aft center of gravity. It was never going to flip from stoppage alone.
      I can personally attest to the fact that a bicycle that has its front wheel blocked by a wooden stick will flip spectacularly. I have the scars and hospital bills to prove it.

    • @EsKaioS
      @EsKaioS 24 дні тому

      Likely coz bike engines drive the back wheel, so the flipping would be caused by acceleration from the back wheel meeting friction from the stopped front wheel.

    Bike wouldn't flip if you stopped the front wheel anyway. It would skid, turn the steering and go down. Breaking the spokes could actually work though, as the wheel would collapse dropping the front hub into the dirt where that could dig in.

    A little trick, is for bicicles and is totally plausible. when you drive a bicicle and you apply front breaks and no back breaks the inertia is drag you towards, so is plausible. in a motocicle maybe a 80 or 90 mph can do the trick, also correct me if i am wrong but the scene is with the front wheel in the air doing a wheelly so, if there some one who can do the experiment.

    But if you pull the bike with a truck it will not work, you must stop the bike at the front wheel to make it flip. The center of gravity is much higher than the wheel and it wants to continue to move forward

    It's a bit strange seeing the bike flip experiment as it did happen to me when i was a kid while cycling I went to get a clipboard and the polythene bag in which i was carrying the board was a bit to long and I was practicing to cycle all the way home without using my hands... I made it almost all the way, when I got close to my house i passed a pothole and i managed to balance the cycle but the board swung too hard and got stuck in the front wheel and I flipped over and the cycle came at me from flipping and hammering me down to the ground by the seat... I don't know maybe the handle turned as I wasn't using my hands or maybe the cycle's weight is way less than a bike because of the engine being in the mid... But yeah I did flip and got bruised on the shoulder unlike buster who sustained injuries on legs. I was really expecting it to flip as I had experienced it... Maybe you guys can try it with a cycle once again I'd really like to see it.

      Plus we see many bike stunts pulling a stoppy as they call it when they apply the front brakes to lift the rear end, so isn't it already possible to convert the forward momentum to vertical?

  • @PANGAWD
    @PANGAWD 4 місяці тому +2

    I believe they forgot the rider momentum on the bike.
    Instead of being tied with the back to the rear of the bike, he would be thrown forward and take the bike with him.
    Pretty much the same thing happens if you slam the front brake on a bike and lift the rear...

      Yeah, but in that instance you're more likely to do what motorcyclists call a "superman."
      That's where the bike stops, maybe flips. And the poor rider keeps flying forward like superman.
      I'll admit I'm rubbish at physics, but I do know a guy of which this happened to. He's fine by the way.

    ln the movie it was a bike with sidecar which would've instantly solved the stability issue.
    Add to that the naz1 was leaning forward slightly which also may have aided handlebar flip.
    l think the myth is plausible with a circumstantial caveat.

    I think there is a way to get the flip (given a steel rod and an inhumanly good throw).
    The wire spokes disintegrated when used to stop the wheel from 50 mph. At a higher speed, they would have been completely destroyed, meaning the bike would no longer be held up by the front wheel, and would drive the forks into the ground. If they hit something they could dig into, that would flip the bike.
    But this would require a massive amount of luck.

      Grant (3.14) is the start of pi. Kari is 5150 which is to do with California code governing involuntary holding of someone for psychiatric reasons (and a fair few songs, but this seems the most plausible). Tory is 000, which I am not sure on. There is a true crime series and book titled ZeroZeroZero, but both postdate the Mythbusters episode by a good few years.
