    I just got diagnosed with having flat feet, and having lots of pain with mainly 1foot, I'm becoming very frustrated as I love to be active and this has basically brought me to a sit still, I was so hoping to see something like this from you two, thanks so much. I'm going to give this a try while I await my orthodics.

      I sympathize; I've been dealing with flat feet and pronation my entire life and severe PTTD in both feet for 6 yrs. Have u been diagnosed with PTTD or adult acquired flatfoot? If it's that painful, exercises prob won't help much at this point but it depends where/why you're feeling the pain; under the arch area, ankle/tendon area etc. Strengthening the posterior tibialis tendon is good but it doesn't necessarily kill the pain because in most cases the bones are collapsing and no amount of exercising is going to correct that. But maybe you can help your pain immediately with heel inserts. You probably don't want an arch support as they said in the video but if your foot is falling in, you need to shift your weight off that side. Most people find the pain is helped a lot with very supportive, laced sneakers with inserts. I initially had to pay $400!! for 1 pair of custom orthotics since insurance doesn't pay for them but I could have saved myself the $$ if I'd known then what I knew 1 yr after diagnosis. The orthotics have to be changed when your foot changes and mine were constantly changing...like very 6 months! So that was never a long term solution. My next much more knowledgable MD gave me a prescription for a cobbler to put an angled sole on my sneakers which shifted my weight off the inside; suddenly I was almost pain free! That also became less than affordable at $150 per pair of shoes so I started DIYing the angle solution which is what many of us do. I started stuffing "whatever" under my shoe insert on the inside half of the sneaker to shift my weight more upright...and I did it for 4 yrs until I found these:
      www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08MXF6FK9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      You can see the inserts are angled (they can be used 2 ways) Since I assume your feet pronate and your weight is falling to the inside, put the higher side of the insert on the inside of your sneaker so that your foot and weight will be taken off the inside and to a more upright position. If you want, you can also put the heel cup under the inserts. I have to put cushioned foam/gel type inserts in my shoes. Sometimes I have to remove the insert that comes with the shoe and ALWAYS if it has an arch support...which most do. That could be what's hurting you; I couldn't ever tolerate even a tiny bit of a rise under my flat arch area. Good luck!

I went to a zero drop shoe. My knee pain is gone my foot pain has eased by 60 percent in a month but they took some getting used to. My toes are now more splayed out. I have Morton's foot. I am not a runner just using these shoes for work and walking. Wow huge difference. Can you do a follow up to zero drops pros and cons. I have had nothing but pros. They are not for everyone but some people they may help with their foot knee hip alignment. Thanks and great information.

    Will you be doing exercises for people who walk on the outside of their feet? Funny story, I’ve always had awful hip pain and went to multiple doctors and no one could figure out why…they mostly blamed it on years of different sports. One day I went to my chiropractor for a regular alignment and he looks at me as I walk in and says, let me see your boots. I take my boots off and he’s like well we solved your hip problems, looks at the heels and they’re basically diagonal from wear, from me walking on the outside of my feet. I’m much more aware of it now and wear better shoes but it’s insane how he knew just by me walking in.

    Are all people able to strengthen their arches back, regardless of their overpronation severity? Mine are so bad I developed achilles tendonitis from running. For now I am wearing orthotics while rehabbing and the orthotics are at least helping position my foot in a proper formation to take some strain off the achilles.

      There are various reasons for collapsed arches but most people don't get them back, especially if severe like PTTD. See my post above April 11. If you haven't yet, see a good podiatrist who'll do Xrays. If you have seen one, do they approve of your running? Severe collapsed feet aren't anything to screw around with.

    As Bob and Brad said, exercises alone may not be enough to solve flat feet. If you do have flat feet you should go and see your Podiatrist. However you should also work on strengthening your feet as well because it will reduce the likelihood of injuries and pain. I have pronated feet and I'm always working on ankle mobility and strengthening, I train my ankles with the same intensity as my calves. It hasn't 'cured' my flat feet and it won't, but they have made my feet stronger and healthier and allowed me to do other exercises like squats with less pain.

    I see a lot of people here wondering if exercises will give them an arch or alleviate the pain from fallen arches. I LOVE Bob and Brad & have followed them for yrs but this is the first time I've disagreed with some of their advice and it's because I've done nothing but deal with the most severe level of PTTD (collapsed feet) in both feet for 6 yrs. It was easy to miss but DO note in the video they mentioned these exercises probably won't help "elders"...lol. (like me!) They might help healthy weight, younger people whose arches have only fallen a little from ??? the weak tendon, foot muscles maybe. But if you've been flat footed from birth, no amount of exercises will give you an arch and neither will they if your bones are collapsing as in PTTD or adult acquired flatfoot. Yes, keeping the Posterior Tibialis tendon strong (that's primarily what they're exercising in the video) always helps since it supports the foot/arch area but it can't change a serious orthopedic collapse. What DOES help the pain though are inserts or orthotics to take the weight OFF the inside of your foot. It might be as simple a solution as these angled inserts off Amazon for your shoes or it might be more comprehensive. Only a good podiatrist AND Xrays can tell you what's going on. Sometimes when feet/bones collapse to a certain point they get no worse so inserts will work long term but oftentimes the condition deterioriates and other solutions are called for as it's been for me. BTW, being overweight can really exacerbate the condition/ pain. These inserts aren't meant as a cure but they can REALLY alleviate the pain when flat feet are pronating and you're literally walking on bone. You should be in extremely supportive shoes as in laced sneakers and with angled inserts. BTW, I and the people I know who have this condition were told to NEVER go barefoot. Again, you should get diagnosed because what's OK for some fallen feet is not for others! Anyways, these really help.

It has been 15 years now and pain has eased. I did use orthotics but not so much now only when lifting weights. I can walk barefoot ok. Just when increasing speed i feel in right ankle and calf. Im sure stretching would help me also. Has bugged me for years. Am active though also. I wear walking shoes for everyday walking.

    How do you flatten too high an arch? It's my understanding that nowadays it is found people with flat feet do better than those with high arches. Runs contrary to old theory...

    Has anyone actually in these comments done these exercises? I'm curious to know the results. This video is a year old and i would like hear from someone who done the exercises.
    After 50 years of living with a fallen arch, my foot is basically deformed . I'm doubtful that exercise can reverse this situation.

    What if you have over pronation with high arches - what does that mean?

    • @bluepheonix2234
      @bluepheonix2234 2 роки тому +1

      If it's high enough to bother you then likely some spasticity or retraction (happened a lot to people who had polio) or just plain bad posture sometimes. So the main solution would be to stretch and elongate. Massage, passive and active stretches, stuff like that. But if you can, do go to at least a physical therapist for an evaluation.

    I did the first exercise (lifting the arches) on Sunday night, just 15 or so repetitions, and I've hardly been able to walk since. I have sharp pain in the arch of my left foot when I put weight on it and the top of my foot is slightly swollen. I recommend NOT doing this exercise.

    Is over pronation really a problem…..for years the running industry tried to convince us about whether we are a ‘Neutral runner’ or an ‘over pronator’ and i believed in that. I ran in ‘brooks adrenalin gts’ that were designed for over pronation. They worked great except for one problem, they’re hard on the inside. When i tried to run 50+ miles per week, guess what happened? A horrific broken fibula (extreme stress fracture) Insoles and support shoes are not the answer! Look at ‘Kipchogue’ the fastest marathon runner of all time; he is an over pronator and he ain’t running in support shoes. Lets think about this….pronation and recovery from pronation actually contributes to forward motion and speed. DONT BUY SUPPORT SHOES, is my point. Work on S&C instead!
