I finally found the brother of "Practical Engineering"
I was on a crew who were the last ones to work on this bird while it was still in service..It was in Greenville, Tx and the rebuild station is no longer there...What an honor!

I was in Champaign, IL at Willard airport in 1998 when 27000 was stuck in the mud. We watched it through the fence and saw 26000 come in. We thought it would circle the airport to land but the pilot banked in and landed it like a fighter. The police then cleared the road we were on to allow 26000 to take off, so we drove back to work. On our way across a country road the plane paralleled us after takeoff by about 150 yards. What a memorable day, sadly we didn't have a good quality camera with us.
I'm blessed to live here in Dayton OH and get to take the NMUSAF all the time!
So cool!! You were in my area! I live about 20 minutes away WPAFB!! I have actually been to the museum and walked through that exact aircraft!! It’s really an amazing sight, it’s honestly so much better in person! It’s a really tight squeeze through there with all the plexiglass, but worth walking through. If you come back to the area, would be cool to go back up there with you! That museum is full of aircraft that an aviation enthusiast would be in love with! Honestly, I wish they had more that you could walk through though. Still a great museum, but it takes forever to walk through. Last time I went, it took us 4-5 hours… It’s truly an all day affair to just take in the beauty of the entire place
People like you allow the rest of the world to be somewhere they may never travel and see things you didn’t know were still around.

Extremely interesting. I was in Scottsdale AZ where this plane passed overhead just after take-off from Sky Harbor Airport. President Reagan was on board and I was standing on the grounds of a military contractor who was in some trouble with the government.
Reagan was the best president during my lifetime. Sadly, the people in power now have nothing in common with that great man.

Even living in Cincy and driving about 2 hours to visit this museum a couple times, this is the best review I've ever seen of the plane even though I have been in it twice.

Was just at Wright Pat and went through this plane. Like you said this plane oozes history. Everyone needs to go to this museum, it's free and the parking is free, plan for an entire day and bring a camera.
It was a joy seeing this in person when I was 21
Years ago, my parents neighbor Mark was in the USAF and a member of the WHCA , sitting up front with the comm gear. His role at the time was normally on AF2 but he would also fly on AF1 or on the backup. He always had good stories and some interesting gifts, particularly the AF2 logo stuff like drink coozies and MnMs.
Anyways, he talked about how the 747s were nice and modern, but the sheer history of 26000 (JFK, LBJ, Nixon to China) made it his favorite plane. He had flown with 3 administrations: both Bush's and Clinton.
One story I remember was "stuck in the mud" in 1998 with Pres. Clinton at a smaller airport in Champaign IL. Mark was on the backup, this exact plane and over in Indiana. Since they were sitting around, they had pizza delivered. They then get the call to move, so they buttoned up and flew out to pick up Clinton. I think he said from the time they got the word to getting Clinton on board was something like 45 minutes. Anyways, since they didn't get time to finish eating or cleanup, they had a stack of pizza boxes sitting there in the galley area.
Paraphrasing...as Clinton is boarding he stops in the galley area. Mark asks him "Would you like some pizza, Mr. President?" Clinton replies "Doctor says I shouldn't." Not very interesting in retrospect, but I found it lighthearted. The big story was the Lewinsky scandal had broken wide at this point. Two days before this incident was the infamous "I did not have..." press conference.
Until this video, I didn't realize that flight was the last as AF1. I'm glad that both 26000 and 27000 were preserved, I'd like to visit them some day.
When I went here in November 2020 you could only look at this plane from the outside. I'm glad I came across this video because I was so curious what it looked like inside there.
To see this plane has been a dream of mine since I was 6 (early 60s). It was one of those dreams you just know will never come true.
Driving from New England to the Northwest in 2022 my dream came true. Not only did I "see" it, I walked through it several times. Got there when the doors opened and the plane had nobody on it. I was floating on air. So much history within that airframe. Took enough photos to fill a small book. Went on FDR's, Truman's, and Eisenhower's planes as well. Unbelievable.
I would fly to Dayton, stay a few days and spend them in that museum if I wasn't sick. If you love aircraft you should make that trip. 4 hangers filled with the very first aircraft up to recent times and all era's in between. Even a Mercury and Gemini capsule along with the original Apollo 15 capsule. Don't dream about it. Do it. Oh, and no admission charged AND free parking.

As the saying goes, " if these walls could speak !"....in this case the amount of history you fitted into this video is amazing !
The plane itself is in pristine condition , and the avionics and technology, in so many ways , is so "simple", yet complicated, at the same time !!!
OMG this is the first time in 45 years I have had the chance to see this bird again. The first time I had the pleasure to work on it it had just come out of depot and #2 engine shelled out. They had to make an emergency landing at Castle AFB in Merced CA and I was part of the team that had to change the engine and do what is called a trim on the engine (basically a check to be sure it was working correctly and that everything was up to spec) Since there were only 2 of us on the flight line that had Top Secret clearances me and Big Mac had the pleasure of not only doing the trim but also the high speed take off roll to check power (something that was rare but since it was going to be carrying the President had to be done. At first we were watched like a hawk by armed MP's but after it was all complete the crew chief allowed took the two of us for a tour of the plane. To this day I have never told anyone any of the secrete things we saw and believe me there were a lot more than this video shows. But I will always have the pride of knowing I worked on the plane that brought a much loved president back to to rest

I grew up going there since i was three, my favorite memories with my grandpa are him taking me there and showing me the aircrafts he designed in the Vietnam War and in the 80's. Thanks for reminding me of the memories. God i remember being in that plane few months ago, i love 707s

The last flight of Clinton (or any president) aboard SAM2600 happened in Champaign, IL. As stated, SAM27000 originally flew him into town, but when the aircraft took one of the last turns too sharply onto the runway, one side of the landing gear was too far over and ran off the tarmac into the soft soil, recent moisture and the weight was too much and the landing gear tires went up to their axels in mud. A NY paper had a caption with the stuck Air Force One pictured, with the headline of "Clinton stuck in the Mud". This was right after the Monica Lewinsky sandal broke, so all eyes were on Clinton at the time. So it had a double meaning for sure.
I remember this well, as I was working at one of the local TV stations in engineering, and setup the remote feed for his visit beforehand, as it was rare to have any president in town, and of course it was after the sandal broke. So every national news outlet was setup besides us at the Assembly Hall, (State Farm Center now). But I had the next day off when he flew in. Our house was right in the flight path of the main runway at Willard Airport, so I got to see SAM27000 fly right over our house at maybe 1000ft. Then a few hours later, I got to see SAM26000 fly over our house as the backup Air Force One as it were.
Apparently at the time, they would often have the second VC-137 stationed somewhere "nearby" as a backup to the main Air Force One VC-137 just for such a thing. But more likely, because the aircraft were getting so long in the tooth at the time, they always wanted a second one nearby if the 1st had mechanical issues. This must have been before they got the Boeing C-32, 757's that the vice president now usually fly's, or secretary of state etc. The reason they used the VC-137's that day instead of the VC-25 747, was because Clinton's second stop was at a smaller airport that could not accommodate the VC-25 747. Willard Airport in Champaign could, and had a long a enough runway, but La Crosse WI could not. As La Crosse was Clinton's second stop of the day, but he was several hours late to that event!
Good times, not so much for Clinton, but covering that was exciting for sure. I later covered vice president Cheney (757), and George W. Bush VC-25, 747 along with getting a chance to peer into the "beast" limo. Have a pic of me standing next to it somewhere. That thing has the thickest glass in a vehicle I've ever seen!

Great memory,you forgot about President Clinton,balanced the National budget after 2 failed republican tax breaks by ronald reagan and george herbert bush...George w bush tax breaks destroyed our economy even worse all over again,now look where Trumps big Republican tax breaks have done,,oh he de regulated the banks too,,how 's that working for ya...Tax breaks for the filthy rich that don't need it,DON'T FLY.

I read that a former Air Force One steward who flew with LBJ commented that the President always wanted the galley to have chili available for him whenever he had a "chili craving". First Lady Nancy Reagan used to put an orange on the floor in the front of the cabin before take off and watch it roll down the cabin as the plane took off. She apparently thought it was to insure a safe flight. On the flight back to Andrews Air Force Base from Dallas Love Field AF1 (on November 22, 1963)had the "pedal to the metal" per LBJ and flew much faster than usual. First Lady Hillary Clinton was known to "ream out" the flight crew whenever the landing was not as smooth as she liked it. Just a few "tidbits" about this fascinating and legendary aircraft.
When I went to visit that plane a few years ago, that hanger was closed! Youre lucky to see it!!

Just a clarification, the original civilian airline B707s did indeed use a Navigator. With the advent of Doppler and Omega Navigation, the airlines did away with the Navigator simply because they save money. The USAF is not a profit making entity, so they have the luxury of keeping the Navigator on-board, especially in a high profile mission such as Presidential transportation. Even the current Presidential aircraft (VC25A), which is a B747-200, has a Navigator Station, and I presume the replacement aircraft (VC25B) which is a B747-8 will also probably have a Navigator on-board, although that aircraft will not have a Flight Engineer like the current aircraft.

On December 15, 1961 President John F. Kennedy visited Puerto Rico.
Back then, I was student and we were selected with a group of 9 other boys and girls
from our Public School to watch the arrival from the airport’s north terrace, located around 200 feet from the aircraft.
But I was particularly impressed with the aircraft, as I hadn’t seen it in person, only in newspapers and tv newsreels.
I think the aircraft used back then was VC-137A not this one.
An unforgettable moment for a 13 year old kid!
Yep, different aircraft as this wasn't off the assembly line til 1962. I think that VC 137 is in the Seattle Museum of Flight.

1:45 those Cones above the rear of the engines weren't normally there, it was a flat iridescent red glass plate that scrambled Infra-red missiles.
I got a real close look while working for Qantas in the 90s when President Clinton flew into Sydney and those 707s were parked at the Jet Base.
Again there is much great video footage and commentary giving us an inkling into much interesting history which this plane has been associated with in the presidencies of J. F. Kennedy right through to Bill Clinton. Well done Paul!

Good stuff! My great uncle was the commander of this very aircraft for President Nixon. Col Ralph Albertazzie. The other plane (SAM27000) is on display at the Reagan Museum in Simi Valley California.

Got to tour that aircraft privately just before it was opened for public display at Boeing museum in Seattle. What an experience. Before any of the plexiglas interior protective bulkheads were installed. I had an hour or so by myself. Sat on the very couch that JFK and Jackie sat on. It was a dark rainy Seattle night and this aircraft sat outside. I sat there in the silence and dark and wondered about how much world history was made on the very seat I got to spend an introspective hour upon.
That's a Beautiful Aircraft. Jackie Kennedy herself designed Air force ones paint scheme.

Got to see it fairly close up in service when it was downgraded to VP service. Then a couple years ago got to go thru it at a time when attendance was pretty light and maybe only one other person inside. Gave me time to look around and also think and contemplate the history inside.
In the 80's when Reagan was President, for a couple of years, I was the operations officer for a Squadron at point Mugu, California. We had the biggest hangar Next to the Passenger building. The president flew in frequently and when he did we were required to vacate the hangar, as Airborne One would be put inside. It was a Pain. I would have to cancel flights and maintenance would have to be done out side.However, I never got any static from his crew or his body guards. And I got to see Airforce One from my office desk all day.

We worked on an maintained 26000 and 27000 at E-Systems in Greenville, Texas in the 1990's.
Wright Patterson Museum. They also have Eisenhower, Truman and FDR's AF1 there.

I said what I said as you speak with an authority about you which is crystal clear and detail wise nothing short of outstanding.
I love the channel because of the diversity of aircraft you talk about and the Exceptional modesty to which end you provide the Technical Aspects of these Aircraft is jaw dropping it really is, you provide such as you did with Air Force One in the 707 - 300 Series which I think in Australia it was given a special context such as 328 and the same with the 727 stretch.
I am only guessing that going on information obtained.
You're explaining of the ins and outs of aircraft like Air Force One is one of a person who has flown these aircraft such is the stimulating information that I hear which again I will say leaves me dumbfounded, Brilliant and Concise and Educational for that manner and I was just wondering if you ever thought about leading a tour of an aircraft with people prior to filming your video because they would be in Awe of that they here from you.
Going back to Air Force One I know that they were as mentioned in my last text fixed on keeping the aircraft to it's original Airframe and Engineering in terms of Power Plants but that upon which you further enlightened us on being Protection methods for the Aircraft against missile attack and more was unbelievably brilliant and ad mentioned so Concise and spoken with such ease for people to understand the technical aspects of not just this plane but all those you have covered this far, You leave nothing out including a tour of the internal part of the Aircraft etc is astounding to see the Situation that this Aircraft would have taken in the heat of a sudden incident.
Anyone who hasn't watched your programmes really needs to watch, learn and listen for future reference.
Great as I said and with such calmness and clarity but not leaving one technical aspect behind, well Sir you are Brilliant and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

Besides Kennedy, his successor Lyndon Johnson also had his last flight on SAM 26000, when they transported his remains to Washington to lie in state, and then back to Texas for burial.

We were at the Airforce Museum the week they flew in SAM 2600 for its final flight they brought into a hanger and parked it.
Surprisingly they allowed us to tour the Jet including inside of the plane I immediately was thinking you saw this jet so many times before on TV and in news print, magazines so on and of course remembering the day JFK was assassinated and appreciating all the history that was involved with her.
I guarded AF1 at Andrews AFB for Presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter. Also at Point Magu for President Reagan which was the only time I got on board. A lot of history in 26000.
Very interesting: too say the least, that's for sure.

thanks paul.....after a very long time i got to finally see the presidental aircraft 3 years ago....they get smaller as you go back in the models......if you noticed the C133A (2008).....i loaded that while stationed a dover AFB delaware in the late 60s....it was a dover bird...i heard many horror stories about the 133 to
