      No, he was no goat. That’s a buzzword.
      He was a guy blessed with musical ears and brain. DNA from his parents. And physical speed and dexterity ( like EVH).
      And born into a musical school that his Mom created. How many of us practiced after school, but didn’t really know what to practice??
      And then encouraged to practice and play music, instead of told “ stop playing, I have to get up for work in the morning!”
      Randy was no goat, he was a gold medal athlete on the guitar, encouraged to do his thing.

    The proof that RR playing is TIMELESS is facts!!
    I’m 57 …was there with and after RR w/ Ozzy…my friends and I most Party nights back then would sing this all drunken and shit every time we’d get together it seemed…the EVH RR WAR ROOM TALKS were always in the way…
    mostly talking over the solo…this just came on Pandora and the memories flooded in …the friends that have exited this rock…the ones still here…listening to this incredible solo….incredible….put it in my todays forefront.😕

    This solo has been a favorite of mine for 40 years. I had just barely started playing guitar myself when he died, and this music was like magic to me. I would crank it up into the headphones, straining to hear what else he played in the fade. It's one of those things that should go on forever and ever.
    Randy had a lot of fantastic, memorable solos, but for some reason this one will always be my favorite.

    I was fortunate enough to see Randy play live. March 17th 1982 in the Omni in Atlanta. I was 15 years old, would turn 16 in June. Back then we had no internet no social media. I would play those two albums over and over again. I started playing guitar when I was 11, but those two album's changed the way I played. When this solo started fading out at the end of the song, I would just crank my stereo as loud as it would go! God bless Randy

      I was such a huge randy rhoads fan in the 90's. the first album I got that had him on it was the tribute album where in the booklet, Ozzy said something to the effect of these being "the only recordings...". I interpreted that as "these are the only songs I recorded with Randy". so, all I ever listened to was tribute and blizzard of Oz. I think it was around 1993 i saw in guitar for the practicing musician that Over the Mountain was transcribed. I was like "wtf is this? this is impossible. there are no other recordings...". I saw Randy in the credits and saw it was from another album I had no idea had existed. it was nuts seeing the music and not knowing what it sounded like, going home and trying to play it to figure out what it would sound like (my sight reading was pretty bad back then). there was no internet... or at least no way of hearing this stuff without buying it. when I finally bought Diary of a Madman, it was just completely nuts. Randy had evolved so much from Blizzard. it's a lot like thinking metallica only had Kill'em all, then discovering Ride the Lightning or master of puppets (especially since that was cliff's last album and knowing it was over after that). ... and like you said, it was amazing but bitter sweet knowing that this was truly the end of material from randy. diary of a madman completely blew me away. I played it nonstop on the community ghetto blaster at my job. people were like "dude, can we play something different?". they just had no idea the significance of finding out about that album lol

      @@Mechashiva76 Wow, that's crazy. Must've been a nice surprise to learn you had a whole album of RR music you hadn't heard yet. I went many years without knowing RR was a member of Quiet Riot and that he was the co-founder. Always loved the sound of RR's guitar.

    As a 60 year old guitarist I wore this album and Blizzard out. I would gradually crank up my record player as loud as it would go to hear this lead as it was fading out, cool to hear it cranked up without me having too. I loved everything he did and this solo was so cool and raw, I know it was said long ago about some of the solos on that album were just outtakes and this might have been one but either way I am glad it made it on because it was full of glorious moments, cool tone and raw aggression and attitude.

  • @toddcaylor370

    Man, you can really tell on this particular solo, the massive influence Mick Ronson had on Randy. If you've never done it before, listen to this solo, and then listen to Ronson's solo on David Bowie's "Moonage Daydream", and you'll see what I mean. Randy was a more accomplished guitarist than Mick Ronson technically speaking, but the way Ronson bent his strings deeply affected RR. Randy was so infatuated with Ronson, he wouldn't discuss auditioning for Ozzy till Dana Strum agreed to listen to the tape of Mick that he gave him.🤣Dana doesn't get near enough credit for all he did getting Ozzy & Randy together.☮️

      The uploader is right about “songsterr” being a good place to start. From there search “Tonight Ozzy Guitar Lesson”. Usually, the best way to get the most accurate guitar transcriptions you have to ferret through at least 2 or 3 sources, sometimes more.
      Sometimes it’s not the guitar teachers that get it right, but guitar players uploading their covers of the song.

    Randy is the reason I picked up guitar.
    The second biggest tragedy to losing him is the shit production of the only 2 studio albums we have of him outside of QR. Diary is slightly better sounding but still they sound like demos for the most part. The drums sound cheap and whoever signed off on recording/mixing the guitars with those ambient mics so present should have their pubic plucked out one by one.

    • @cardo_theonly
      @cardo_theonly  2 місяці тому +4

      I love both the Ozzy albums Randy played on, but I specifically love them for Randy alone. I'll agree with you as the recordings of the other instruments do sound kinda crappy and cheaply produced. Poor mixing overall in my honest opinion. But regardless Randy shines past all that capturing something magical with his medieval European sounding style that complimented Osbourne very well.

    • @vs4571
      @vs4571 2 місяці тому

      I never looked at it in such detail. I do hear the ambient mics or room mics yore referring to? I couldn’t imagine it sounding much better because lots of music from that point and prior wasn’t produced and polished like it was in the 90’s and beyond. But I’m no studio engineer or recording expert.
