I’ve set myself a new challenge of writing and recording some songs where I can only use gear made before the year 2000. There will be some more UA-cam shorts videos on the way over the month using the same brief for February Album Writing Month.
Here's the link to the FAWM website if you fancy taking part in a songwriting challenge write.fawm.org/

Such a cool challange! I love the reverse cymbals with phase, and the spring reverb is just too cool!! Bassline is perfect. Best of luck with your February songwriting challange too!
Thanks a lot man! I’ve been enjoying playing around with phaser’s recently, it’s a bit addictive. The aim with the February song writing challenge is to create 14 songs in the month, so only 13 to go now! 😳😄
@@wehappyfewmusic it’s a good start to the 14! That’s quite an undertaking, I’m sure you can do it though. You’ve got a slick workflow down. Are you going to do a post-1999 gear challenge too? Haha
@@SleepingOrchard Thanks, yeah hopefully I’ll have a few free weekends to knock out a bunch more songs. A post 1999 tape free challenge?? 😳😂
This was so awesome and inspiring! That drum machine is so rad. Super fantastic riffs too!
Thanks very much for checking it out! I’ve been having some more fun with that drum machine, and have managed to score a couple of the extra sound carriages to put in it.
This one just looked plain fun to make 🤘🏻 🎉
Yeah, had a good time putting this one together. 😀🙏🙌
I have an eight track from Tascam and a Yamaha MT4XI’m so glad I found this channel.
Hey many thanks for watching and kind words! Which Tascam 8 track do you have? 👍
@@wehappyfewmusic the 488 also have a yahama mt4x
What an amazing limitation, great video!
Thanks for checking it out, much appreciated! The gear limitation has definitely been helping me so far to be a bit more experimental.
GREAT AS USUAL!!!!
Thanks so much for the kind words! 🙏
Hi Adrian, great to see you making great videos with analogue. Happy recording my friend. Paul.
Good to hear from you Paul, and many thanks for watching!
Thanks Adrian, great to hear from you again. Keep up the great work. 😇
Oh man, so good to see a Danecho! I miss mine. Pretty sure my sister and brother in law threw it out after their basement flooded. I probably could have fixed it if it was broken. But alas, while I was away at college they bought the house from my Dad and really just threw out all my stuff. I think there was an old presonus two channel mic preamp in there and a dynacomp, loads of cables, aome apeaker cabinets. can't remember what else. I'd never have done it to her! lol
Oh no, that’s gutting that your sister chucked all your gear out! I’m sure some of it could have been salvaged. 😞
Great stuff. I love the tone of that bass. 😎👍
Thanks David, I do like playing this bass. It’s pretty good considering it’s an old catalog order bass, and I like it’s no frills stripped back style.
Love the studio!
Cheers, it’s only small but it’s great to have a dedicated space for music stuff.
Really good. Talented guy. I recently bought a Tascam 464.
Thanks very much and nice find with your 464, they look like cool machines!
Fascinating process. Love it
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it!
This is so cool!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this man
Much appreciated! 🙏
Gonna be diggin out my Tascam now.
Yeah, do it! 🙌
my tascam 246 .. like it was 1985. My 246, Alesis sr16, kenwood trio TK-150 amp, Auratones that need reconing🤭
Sounds like a great setup for the 80’s! I was actually thinking of doing an 80’s version of this video too. 😅
Good sound!
Many thanks 🙏
DOPENESS!!!
🙃
Peak ❤
Cheers 👋
really cool can you do a producing like its 60s or 70s
Many thanks and that’s a great idea, I’ll see what I can do!
thats me anymore i use a daw as a instrument! and use dexed with dx 7 cart and also linn drum sample packs. i use in lmms 0r reaper and fl studio just as a host t0 use as instrument l0l and Step sequence. i do wont t0 get me a Alesis SR-16 Drum Machine soon though so i can do more stand alone.
I was also considering getting an Alesis SR-16 when I was looking into buying the Yamaha RX5. Let me know how you get on if you do pick one up!
How does it record 8 tracks to what appears to he just 1 normal (presumably type II) cassette? What does it do with the last four tracks?
Hi the tape heads use the full width of the cassette tape on this machine and only record in one direction. It also records at twice the speed of a regular cassette deck which helps to improve the quality.
You should end these videos with the finished recording of the track.
Yes, I’ll try that next time. I’ve been making shorter versions of the full songs to keep the videos from getting too long, but happy to do the whole track. 👍
@@wehappyfewmusic For the video itself, it doesnt have to be the whole track. Even 30 seconds or so of the recording would be a nice way to end it
