Those are good points all around...I passed on the McFarlane after I did my own cost analysis....I think his signature was going for like $185, so right there, not many of his books are going for that...hard pass and now eBay is filled with CGC signed books at a lower price than the cost of going through the process....I will only send in HTF or Ghost Books for a signature everything else is going blue label if worth grading at all
I wholeheartedly agree. I recently passed on the Jenny Frison signing event. If the fee were half the price, I would have sent in all of my 9.8 Frison covers, and Frison and CGC would have made even more money off of me. However, her signature is not rare, and there are only a few of her covers that fall into that "HTF or Ghost" books category. With McFarlane, I did participate, but I immediately HAD to sell one of the books to make up for all of the costs and I still was behind when it was all said and done. I sent in 5 books; 3 got 9.8 and 2 got 9.6. I sold one 9.6 and would need to sell the other 9.6 just to get close to breaking even. If he ever does sign with CGC again, I bet it's around $225 because Todd and CGC were overwhelmed with submissions.
this is very timely for me and my comic book investment friend. together and we only collect TMNT. we have been diverting this process for a little while. recently someone had Eastman and Laird signed the case of a cgc grated comic. I'm wondering what the long-term results are off all the signing stuff.
I think signed books are tricky. Some collectors are turned off by this, but many think it adds tremendous value to a book as you are creating a unique collectible artifact. I go back and forth; I would love to experience the in-person signing with CGC authentication and then have my book and "signing experience" if you will encapsulated forever. However, I've heard that sometimes the in-person convention experience can be a nightmarish and lengthy process which would destroy me and my "time is money" personality and approach. Would love to hear more about your TMNT collection!
I've played that game of getting dups signed so I can keep one and sell one. I've had moderate success but to the point I'm now just at getting what I want for my PC only.
I find it fascinating that the CGC SS fees are as high as they are right now. Here I am about to submit multiple Last Ronins and am paying the fees so I'm part of the problem. These standard $80+ signing/grading fees just seem outrageous to me. I'd love to see it cut back to $65.
Your video has made me decide to submit my books. Im submitting 1 and now just need to decide if I want to send the other. I have Aaron Bartlings 1 and 2 covers. 2 is already a 9.8 and has a eastman sig and remark. I am considering between just getting the other 5 sigs or 5 remarques. The 1 is one I bought from someone and Im not sure it would get a 9.8. Need to really decide.
I saw that CGC is doing another Last Ronin group signing and I need to decided whether or not I want to send in the remaining Last Ronin books in for this event. I had a couple of first issues come back from CGC less than 9.8 and ended up selling those. To my surprise, I was able to move them pretty easily, and ended up getting my money back when it was all said and done. I don't know if the other issues are worth it for me unless I know I'm getting them back in a 9.8.

I feel ya. Last year Jim lee was 90. This year 120. A lot of signed 9.8 X-men 1s sell under 300. I’m saving like $60 to find a 9.8 and send in
Yeah, that's the way to do it!
