Question Quaz, once the console commands are entered, does it automatically stay like that everytime you log in? Also, what if you want the commands turned off?
@@Ragnarcreationstuidios so anything that is “1” will be flipped to “0” to turn off
And you enter them only a single time, exit the game normally (do not alt f4) and game will save the cvars

same here. my computer kept shutting down for overheating. friends tried to help me - they even suggested to change the thermal paste (very beyond pay grade).

Really useful content. I've played WoW on and off for over 12 years and while I've messed around with individual settings to address in game performance in the past I've never put an effort in to understand optimizing performance.
This was a great watch through from start to finish and has inspired me to review my graphics settings on all of my most commonly played games.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Another thing to note is: The liquid Detail settings should be on "fair". Why? Because you can detect ground effects, which are under water more clearly (like volcanic or other boss mechanics). Was super useful in dungeons like tazavesh in the murloc area with dodging volcanics ;)
That’s correct, imo just the ultra setting is killing performance. The rest have similar performance but you gain a decent awareness boost.
@@tbone8358nah with low u have a white taint on the water with fair it’s transparent already tested it
@@mwlo8635 on fair the water is basically invisible and it’s only on fair. Try it out and test it for yourself. On low water has a white taint

@@abbeboi1992 I feel like it does cost some performance, and it also makes the game look like borderlands which goes against the intended art-style. but if you like it you like it, i personally feel like it makes my eyes hurt

i remember accidentally turning off projected textures during a mythic raid and my guild has yet to stop roasting me..
You are a true HERO!!! You just solved me 2 of my biggest graphics issues ive been trying to fix for a looong time !!! Thank you Quazii!! Do i have to apply these commands every time i log or not?`
If you have FPS problems especially during raid encounters or big aoe pulls in m+ you may consider CPU profiling your addons and WA profiling for your weakauras. Due to how WOW engine works it utilises only small portion of your CPU so if you have older CPU or high amount of addons you may experience FPS drops or micro stutters during fights. For me worst offenders were ElvUI, vuhdo and weakauras (but its not possible to play without WA in mythic raid for example). Elvui you can disable and use more lightweight addons to customise UI, for frames use default frames or Grid2 which is way lighter than vuhdo.
Yeah I have a weird bug where if I lower the resolution scale it actually makes my FPS worse. So I would play at native 4k and get 90FPS for example but if I lower the resolution scale to something like 60%, I would get 50FPS. It's very odd.
yup it's a bug - blizz needs to fix. added that comment to pinned and description (: for now use 100% in ur case.

Nice guide but something to add is that capping fps will reduce your power usage and heat output. One could argue that the extra frames might help in instanced content, but for sure it's unnecessary for outdoor content. On the other hand lowering your electricity bill might be nice. I really wish they would introduce dungeon/instance settings in addition to the raid/bg setting.
EDIT: Here is some data with my Zen3 5900x and RTX 3080 going from uncapped (~100fps) to 60fps cap reduces the power usage by 11% from 315W to 280W and when wow is inactive on the second monitor capped to 8 fps the consumption drops to 210W.
It's better practice to limit the fps in your graphics drivers/cards settings then. The wow fps capping settings seem to be a little bit suboptimal.
The sharpen trick is insane! I actually thought that my vision got worse and turns out is was just the sharpening!
One thing though didn't work for me: changing Render Scale to 91 % (or anything below 100%) would reduce FPS for me rather than increase and by a lot. I'm talking about dropping from 60 to 45 in Valdraken and from 170 to 125 in the open world
Yes that’s the render scale bug affecting some folks. Added that to the pinned comment - keep it at 100% for your case 👍
@@quaziiwow is there any way to tell why all three of the console commands resets to default after I close the game or logout of character and back into character? Is there a specific file I can perhaps change to read only in hoping to update it manually and keep it saved.
@@Rap1dACE Is your Config.wtf file is set to read-only? It should not be read-only. It's in your WoW folder > _retail (or classic) folder > WTF folder.
same, FSR is bugged since 10.2
@@_nilson the config.wtf file is not read-only. but the folder wtf is readableonly and it's for the two other files account and savedvariables. Not sure why the three console commands don't save. Perhaps it's an addon or is there any .ini file or wtf file I can just add the console command in ?

Just a note, changing the resolution to 91% from 100% actually made me lose 50fps. I usually sat at 200fps, and after all the changes was at 140ish. Only after going back to 100% resolution it went back to normal fps.
Same here. Going any lower than 100% reduced my FPS. RTX3070 Ti, 1080p 144Hz monitor, i9-13900K

Great video. Small note: if you play on higher resolution monitor, you can probably disable Anti-Aliasing.
This is an amazing video. I feel like Spell Density needs an even lower setting than Essential. IMO I still see too many spell affects from other players - most notably in open world content (and I only use Base settings).
I honestly come back to this video every time there's an update or patch and seems to jack with my settings. Even with beefy hardware, I find it helpful to pull back some of the "nice-to-haves" to ensure smooth game play during dungeons and raids. Thanks!

This video is absolutely amazing. I have been playing wow for a long time, and now I am just playing on a mid tier gaming laptop with HDMI into a curved gaming monitor and it is the best I have even seen. I had some issues with items on the ground flashing black and then back to original colors, I fixed it with graphics option directX to 11 instead of 12.
Great job on the guide! I followed your tips and saw a noticeable FPS boost on my already decent PC. Though I opted for slightly higher settings for better visuals - I'm all about that immersive experience over min-maxing!
As for the NVidia Control Panel, I've seen mixed reviews too. It's been around for a while, but its effectiveness with modern games seems hit or miss. If anyone has experience with it, I'd love to hear your thoughts and tips. Thanks in advance for any help!

excellent job walking through each one while showing examples! i tested several of these out and some like the console commands were so easy to see the difference visually. my game is running pretty smooth through about everything at a solid 100fps currently, up to 130 in less dense areas and its perfect for me. and at 7680x2160 it looks amazing. truly an experience on this bigass monitor. only took like $6k to achieve.... which is very stupid, but man does it look good!

Hey! Thanks so much for your videos, they are all extremely helpful. I've recently got a new beefy system and I'm finding I'm getting 200-300 fps in open world / some cities and this feels like wasted power/energy consumption considering I only have a 144hz monitor. I know that the fps cap feature is kind of broken, would you recommend v-sync for this?

The sharpen command is wonderful, I was trying this out in the emerald dream and the only setting I disagreed with about making things look very different was shadow quality, going below "Good" had a drastic impact on how things looked.

Is there a way to check what your current cameraDistanceMaxZoomFactor is? I don't really notice anything changing when I type the command, and I don't see the setting in Config.wtf to confirm.

The Sharpen Filter Hack was insane, I kept changing it from 0-1 to see the differences, and now whenever I put it back to 0, it feels like I need glasses

One thing to note (its almost like blizzard WANTED to make this harder) in current DF raid and a few dungeons particle effects actually have begun to OBSCURE in-game indicators for some abilities, most notably the lines on the tornados for Smolderon. Granted there are WA to turn it off when in the fight, sometimes they glitch and dont turn it back on.

2 things about my experience:
1. Changing rendering scale lower or higher than 100% - dropped my fps by 20%
2. I can't see any visual difference between 16x or 4x anisotropic filtering. So there is no change in FPS as well.

Whaaaaaat?! I thought the console for increasing your zoom was gone?! I used to use it back in maybe Cata, took a 6 year break and a friend had said that command didn't work anymore. I'm thrilled it works again. Need to try it out for sure. It makes things look crazy tiny on my ultrawide monitor though
