  • This is the beginning of the Handstand Walking discussion that US Olympic Team Member Dave Durante has with the participants at the Power Monkey Gymnastics certification course.
    From here they will go into building drills on how to HS walk correctly with the most virtuosity such that they can work towards walking faster and with more control to eventually HS walk around obstacles and anything else that is thrown at them.

    shoulder angle!! duh! That's why my freestanding handstand hold feels better when I stretch! Interesting... Ive mainly been focusing on the position of my glutes... clench to bring forward... but still find it hard to get up ramps... will give this a try! Thanks for the advice!!

      Youre welcome! The shoulder angle is a key aspect of the HS walk...especially if you start adding in an obstacle like a ramp where that closed shoulder angle is going to be working against you. Have you checked out our HS walking program on our Training app? This could really help with your shoulder position and overall control.

    How do I increase distance? I'm trying for 1000m straight and stuck somewhere between 200-260m.

    Shall I master free HS before HS walk?

      We wouldnt say that "Mastery" is absolutely necessary prior to embarking on the HS walk journey, but there is definitely a level of competence in the HS that we would recommend achieving first.
