Yep, that's what I always get. Amazing to be in business that long, even though they have changed owners many time, the still use the same recipes

Yeah, I grew up walking distance from Shrimp Boat when I was living in NE. Have you been there lately? The inside is completely different. I will do a video on them real soon so you can see how much they changed...

Mario's was developed by a retired Navy guy who wanted something to do. And that was around the late 50's or early 60's. That store location was a hobby shop before Mario's converted the space. The original owner insisted that his menu of Pizza be kept and the business has been sold at least three times. That oven against the back wall is original but is easily moved by any refrigeration/equipment company. The front area was completely open with a window seat for customers who were picking up their pizza's and the original owner would give anyone a free piece of pizza if they had to wait - which I did all the time on purpose. He and I use to talk a lot. Their was no place to sit and eat at all. The oldest and original real neighborhood restaurant was in the shopping center East of the Shell Gas Station that is across the street. I don't remember the name right now but they also moved on to Maryland near the West Gate of Andrews AFB. And they stayed with the original owners until the building burnt down. That would be the restaurant to do some research on as they were there since the 40's or 50"s.

Man that's awesome information! Sorry for crazy late response. I literally just learned how to view ALL my comments from an app called UA-cam studio. Before that if I missed them pop up just after you do it, I thought I had no way of seeing it 😏. Thank you for your feedback and for viewing the channel 👍🏽

And by the way how did you come across that information, because I struggle to find anything at all about Mario's except for how to order 😄. I find it sad that things east of the river aren't even paid attention to sometimes. 😏

Yes Horace & Dickies is definitely a classic!! I never did a video about it, but I did write about it on my website called offbeatenpathdc.com. Unfortunately I'm working on getting another host for the site so it's down right now. But I started that website before I started my channel, and it is completely about east of the river stuff. I should have it back up in the next couple weeks... Thanks for watching and your support 👊🏽

Great video, I used to stay on R Street on the 2200 block back in the early to mid 1960's . My brother went to Oar Elementary School. Do you remember Mike's store by the little park on Minn. down from Mario's across the street.I believe the building is still there. Mario's sure is a SE landmark just like Morton's. Can you please do a video on Penn Ave East OF THE River . I'm across the line in PG, so I go down Penn Ave quite often. Sometimes I cut thru R street to see whats what. Thanks for posting, please keep the videos rollin.

Thanks once again for your awesome comments. Naw, I don't remember Mikes. I went to St. Francis, so my memories were Little Tavern, Mortons, and Highlands movie theater... :-)

@@thatdcdude7434 The police substation used to be a bank and the funeral home across the street used to be a A&P grocery store I believe. I loved Little Tavern there and used to hit the Little Tavern on Alabama Ave across from the old Sears. Do you remember M'C Brides on Alabama Ave around 1975?

My family also used to hit The 51 on the PG side for great pizza also Eddie Lenards on Good Hope by the Western Auto.

@@thatdcdude7434 no, it's in the inside of that strip mall. Where CVS is. It's maybe 2 or 3 doors down. It's been there since I was a kid and I'm the big 5-0! It's a Chinese Spot.

@@indiapeters8707 Oooooo...I know exactly where you mean... Oh heck yeah they're still open...lol! I think they are a permanent fixture. It's always been like an Eddies or other spots like that but has a bar and dining area too, with a tv for the bar patrons. Nice neighborhood spot and decent food too! They survived Highlights movie theater, the old lLittle Tavern up the street and other proprietors over the years in that piece of strip mall. Sounds like a DC Dude video in the making...lol! Thanks for that India!
