I own this watch, my father bought it to add to my collection for my 25th birthday and I really love two tone watches as my mother has always worn them adding the two tone Sea 🌊 Dweller to her collection in 2019 after it was released in 2019. The great benefit of two tone for a female is that it can be matched to fashion both casually or formally as well as being mixed up with our jewellery so this watch is very flexible in my collection of new & vintage watches now. And I actually love ❤️ it more than I thought 💭 I would 👍✊🙏♥️🤜

Hello. I love your reviews. I wanted to ask your opinion: would have a 2 tone gold explorer if you already owned the steel version same model. What do you think?
I get people expressing their personal taste. For the most part, I’m not big fan of two-tone watches with a few exceptions like the Nautilus and Santos. What I don’t get is the hatred by many for fact that this watch exists. It just offers another option for those who want it. No skin off your nose. The way some people are reacting, you’d think they replaced the steel version with the two-tone.
the whole heritage/function argument is ridiculous to me. 99% of the people that even buy an explorer a submariner never use the things for scuba diving, cave diving etc.

It’s because we don’t want fuckboys and rappers running around ruining the Explorer name, we want nothing to do with them, stylewise that it.
Now when you see another guy with a Explorer it’s like being in a secret club together, you give eachother a nod for the good taste and move on.
That we want to be left alone.

I had such a feeling it would slowly grow on people. When they first release the ugly renders, you can't tell. Then when people start getting them and you see them in person, it grows on you! I saw the gold really recently at my AD and the gold was actually surprisingly subtle!

A million words to try to say something nice about a watch that you don't like. I whish Jack was more of a critic. That is one thing I really like about Federico. I think though that Jack seems a really nice guy. Maybe a little too much? I still hold against him calling Anthony a PR genius. Not a genius, not a gentleman and for sure no class at all. Surprising because I think Jack is exactly the opposite to Anthony.
Anyhow, I keep my subscription and do recommend this channel very much.

I also feel the same with the term “sport watch”. No one is going to be playing sports in a 10-20k watch. Most are also pretty dressy so it’s a versatile watch not a “sport watch”

This watch is on my wishlist! I’m generally not a fan of two-tone watches but I feel like it works unexpectedly well for this Explorer.

Would've preferred a slightly warmer tone to the gold, almost a rose-gold. I think that would look awesome.
My first luxury watch was a Rolex perpetual 2 tone absolutely loved it. Never really took it off for 20 years. Gave it to my son on his 18th birthday. So this 2 tone, to me, looks fantastic for sentimental reasons

Cool video as always! The real reason I bought a two tone datejust was mainly because I didn’t want to pay the premium in grey market for a mere steel. It made more sense to get the same watch with precious metal with little extra from an AD at retail price. I don’t mind a little formal look but still value the experience of getting it brand new with my name on the warranty card coming directly from Rolex.
Amazing , 5 years ago everyone would have been saying TT watches are so eighties , and that they have '' had their day'' yet here we are , old is the new new ... Ive always liked TT watches and have a few in my collection , Its nice to see the world is catching up again for some of us TT never actually went away.
I have a two tone sub with blue dial... had it for over 10 years now. Still looks new... I love it.. it’s classy and you can wear it with anything.. work or casual. I like the explorer with gold as well, I think it will do well.. 👍
The Bluesy is one of/if not, the most iconic Rolex designs. A mesmerizingly beautiful timepiece. Underrated, versatile, robust, classy.
I just bought the 2 tones Explorer from my AD last weekend and I like it. I chose to get the 2 tones instead of the steel is because I already own the 114270 and I do not have the intention to sell it. If I don’t already own the 114270, I most likely will go with the 124270. The 2 tones Explorer feel luxury/classy due to the gold and polished Center links as well as the more tapered bracelet. For those who dislike it, you still have the steel option so no problem. Hopefully the sale of the 2 tones is poor and Rolex discontinued it in few years time. Then perhaps 20 years later, it will be worth like a Daytona. Haha!
I like the iteration of the fact that seeing a watch in the metal is always different. I went watch browsing the other day and tried on the Bell & Ross BR05 and was surprised about how well it wore and looked in person. Then I googled some UA-cam videos and found that you had made a video about it (I must've watched and not gave 100% attention). On my rewatch you had said that you had the exact same affect as you had now. Seeing it in person is completely different.
Great video once again Adrian! I appreciate the fact that you detailed what made you not like it in the images and then how it looked in the metal and why you liked it more in the metal (i.e the gold being less brash)
Rolex did a fine job using a lowered tone of gold compared to other gold Rolex watches to keep this watch somewhat incognito. Love the fact that it still doesn't draw too much attention; it could look like any number of Citizen or Seiko watches, but the wearer know's it is the Rolex Explorer - where beauty, meets form and function in the harshest conditions.
Great video as always Adrian. I agree that it's a fun addition to the Explorer range. The Explorer/Explorer II are my favorite watches in the Rolex lineup. I have the 39mm mk2 and just picked up the stainless steel 36mm version for my son. I can't wait to see this two tone in person. I might just take a crack at it.
I have a two tone sub and it's awesome. The gold really pops on the bezel. I had the same logic as you mention in the purchase: it was available to purchase, and more affordable than a steel sub. No-brainer

Is it a modern gilt dial? I did get the steel one. It’s super. It disappears on the wrist until you need it.
I tried the steel version several times and it never clicked. Today I could try the Two Tone and I feel in love immediately.

You nailed it Adrian. It’s really growing on me after about two days. The deep black dial really jumped out at me at first. And like you say, the gold is somewhat subdued. 36mm is a traditional size that works better for me than the 39mm Explorer. Great review!

I was against when it was first announced and then saw it live at an AD and immediately fell in love with it, although it is rationally a non-sense. This is all about emotions, mixing adventure and luxury feel, in a smart balanced way. And amazingly it does work!!!
it’s an explorer, it’s meant to tread new grounds. the two tone is fun and not overwhelmingly exaggerating. I think it will look very nice with both casual / formal clothes. the size is perfect, oversized watches are a thing for the past.

Just bought a two-tone/black dial submariner. Absolutely gorgeous in person. Get so many compliments it has become my daily now.
I’ve got a two tone sea dweller and I love the combination and the gold on the black dial.
I own one and love it. It works so well with the gold and that beautiful black dial.
I don't understand the fuss over this. It makes more sense than a two-tone Sub to me. I would still choose the steel version.

@@ameza357 2-tone subs are just as stupid. It's just that the Sub is so darn popular, people want variations. The explorer was considered one of the few 'true unpretentious tool watches' from Rolex...except this release shows nothing from Rolex is a tool watch anymore lol
When are you getting one Adrian? I’ve had it for 2 months now, and it scratches REALLY easily. Absolutely painful the first time, and the second time, then after a while, it just feels liberating to be able to enjoy the watch without babying it too much. Initially felt it was too small, but now I realise why it was designed this way. It exudes a very different subtle class I’ve never felt with any other watch. Really grown to love it more than I expected.
I do love this two-tone watch. Once you wear it, you realize how beautiful it looks.

love it! I have an explorer 1, which btw, is almost (if not more) twice the price of retail now in the secondary market! Crazy. Was hunting for a 2-tone sub, but when this came out, this seems to be a better choice. Since a two-tone sub feels heavier/loud. At least I have a choice now.
I was 10 years old when Hillary and Tenzing climbed Everest. Needless to say it was a big deal for me and my brothers. I’m not adverse to the two tone, but I picked up a 36mm stainless steel one last month. No hesitation.

I absolutely love this two-tone Explorer. If I ever decide to get a Rolex, this will be the one. I know I am one of a seemingly tiny few, but this really does it for me, haha.
Also, I hope Rolex fully commits themselves to making "F@*K you tool watches" by releasing an all-gold version of the Explorer. That would be so much fun to see.
I was fortunate to see it in person last week at my local AD. Not really a fan for the 36mm dia. It just look small on my small wrist. So definitely opting to the new Tudor BB58 925 😉
Be careful, it definitely tarnishes, as some YTers have shown. Tarnishes after only a month.
I have same thoughts. Like the watch but not sure if the 36 will be too small. I own a DJ 41 and looks just right on my 170mm wrist.

I love the two tone Explorer. If Rolex makes two tone Subs, why not the Explorer? I would so rock the two-tone Explorer if I was fortunate enough to own one. Two tone everything! Heck, bring out a full gold Explorer and I'll wear the heck out of it. Yellow gold everything! It just looks so futuristic. As an aside, I love stainless steel too. It's just that I think steel everything is akin to matte black everything. After a while, you want to see some flash.

Your insight about the rebellious nature of gold and tool watches made me realize my admiration for it. I think thats why I just bought the Seiko "baby" alpinist spb155j1, and why im looking to buy the BB58. Albeit those are just hints of gold, this two toned explorer screams it.

The fun of watch collecting is you buy what you love. This one is completely different once you wear it. Yes, the gold will mark and at first it kind of worried me. The stigma that it is a ladies watch it ridiculous. I wear the chunky Seamaster as well - a blokes watch apparently. I love reading everyone’s opinions. The fallout after the release had no influence to buy it, the decision was easy once I was able to have it on my wrist. Great watches are not always popular 😊

Looking back at this amazing piece, I feel this one would be the next wanting thing after couple years.. As he mentioned, since the gold is washed out, the gold part gives a good balance with the metal aesthetically. For people who think it is odd in the way as the 'explorer', if you think back at the most wanted sports watches, at first people didn't get it! I think there is something beyond just the combination of gold and. steel in a explorer 1. That's my thoughts, and I would love to know you guys thoughts as well!

I’ve been searching for my ideal first Rolex for several months. And this TT Explorer has become the one. It was offered by my AD, and I pulled the trigger.
I also tried the steel version at a reseller: clean, tool, everyday working horse (as we all are))). But this TT is a different story. It transfers you to a bit different life, “dressing” it “up”.
This gold makes a good and much more delicate marriage in the Explorer, than in the Submariner, to me at least. The Sub is bigger and looks far more goudy in TT. Plus I got tired of seeing masculine watches on slender ladys’ wrists. Mine is 14,5 sm and Explorer 36 fits it perfectly well.
I still have not decided, if it’s my cup of tea, if I can cope with this)))) quite a statement they make. But they are so classy, still very clean and laconic, not oversized, slim and sleek. But heavy a bit.
For me it was not so evident choice as a DJ would be. I’ve chosen to start with a professional model, and a bit off the beaten track.

@@nathanf1934 there aren’t almost any left. People want something big, chunky with a presence. Dive watches are superb for this, other option is chronograph. Then there are let’s say universal watches and minimum space for pure dress watches…

I own other styles too, but majority are dive. I would wager that most men that have a watch collection has more dive watches than any other... It's why most microbrands make divers.
I think its a great looking watch in my humble opinion. Like you mentioned the gold isn't as brilliant as some other models. I think it will pop and draw some attention but at the same time I can see this watch flying under the radar as well due to the 36mil size and simple dial. Again it was a great video that nobody has done thus far. Cheers clink
About the best thing about Rolex is when they throw something like this at folks. I used have the OG 36mm explorer and I think this one is so messed up I would wear it.

Crowns don't line up and every watch it will end in some place. Wished this was standardised by Rolex

@bark....One question. Why Rolex produce Rolesors Yellow and Rosegold (referring to Datejust lineup) that have also central element of the link in gold BUT in "white Rolesor" the only component in WG is the fluted bezel?
My guess is the bracelet wouldn’t benefit from being in white gold. Steel can be polished to a high level and the finish lasts longer in steel, there wouldn’t be a benefit of it being in gold. Where as the bezel can’t be created in steel. Steel can be accurately cut with a high finish. The gold is cut to create the fluted design. They used to have a machined steel bezel, but it didn’t look anywhere near as fancy.
I loved it from the start. I'd like to see one. I want an Explorer but at this point I have so many similar watches I'm thinking the gold would fun and different.

as someone who owns this watch I can say this. there is something extra special about owning a rolex from one of the 'professional' lines. I dont know if it's the twin clasp or the Mercedes hour hand or the movement, but those are some things the dress watch just doesn't offer. The datejust and the day date even the OP are all beautiful watches but i would prefer them with the three added features the professionals provide. So to me this watch falls in the realm of the 'dressy professional', the kind of time piece that would be adorned by an accomplished individual who wants the luxury of 18k yellow gold merged with the familiarity and functionality of a timepiece they already know and love. If your an explorer 1 fan but want to get dressy on a black tie flex, this is the avenue, not to mention the fact that this watch looks beautiful in twilight. I caught a glimpse of it one summer evening when the sun was close to setting and the wat h had taken on a new appearance. The steel looked very dark almost a gun metal grey and the 18k gold outlined lumi hour markers twinkled like little stars in the night sky up against that beautiful black dial. It was so striking it looked almost futuristic, like something Bruce Wayne would wear, you really have to own this watch or have it in hand before you can fully overstand it.

Tried this watch on a few days ago at my local AD , It looks good but the 36m is not for me due to my 7.5" wrist .
I do like two-tone watches in general, but this is an exception. I bought my two-tone Santos Dumont intentionally.
Would be pretty difficult (and impresive!) to buy a Cartier Santos unintentionally mate

I love two-tone but it's got to be for the right watch. The whole appeal of the Explorer to me is it's understated nature. Otherwise, what does it really offer over the OP?
Until not too long ago I didn't like two-tone watches, but a week ago I pucked into a two-tone Daytona and bought it too. I'm totally drawn from this watch and love it.

It’s Rolesor which has a specific configuration, gold on the dial, gold hands, gold bezel, gold winding crown, gold center links. Anyone could have mocked this up if they’d thought about it, but somehow Rolex sprung the surprise in everyone 😀 gotta hand it to them, even with their tightly defined design grammar they can still spring surprises and still produce desirable amazing value watches 💪
In general I think some of the big watch brands don't have great photos of watches on their sites. I visited an Omega AD today trying on some stuff and decided to look at a Globemaster. The pic on the site for the model I tried on did it absolutely zero justice. Seeing it in person was so much better.... today's visit may actually cost me a bit of money 🤣.
My ad sales reps said they were thrilled with new explorers as they seen it as the perfect ladies watch with its size and two tone. One gal said she can’t wait to get one….and hopes to have one by the end of the year
I actually love it. But then again 2 tone is my brand. I have the Tudor heritage s&g with gold dial,and the op41 silver dial with gold hands and markers. So this explorer is my jam!!!!
