Maria! What an amazing video! I would much prefer to watch your video than anything that I find on the television. Your skills as a story teller and videographer far outshine those big budget productions. Thank you so much!
I loved this video. I stayed in Senjahopen in April 2022 and hiked up the Hesten trail in the snow which took me 2.5hrs to get to the top because it was knee-deep. Absolutely beautiful scenery, and I loved your brilliant filming of this and your thoughts on the place. Keep up the amazing work. 👏
Hi Maria - newbie to your channel - thanks so much for sharing this trip! Norway and not least, Senja, are on my list of most want-to-visit places and this intention has only been increased! Your film-making, editing and soundtrack choices were fantastic and showcase not only the beauty of the land but the feeling of being there. I love the details as well as the big views. Thank you for letting us see and feel what you saw and felt. I am sure there are many of us who can echo that sense of sorrow and gratitude; perhaps feeling we are leaving behind a part of ourselves in a place which resonates so deeply with our souls - and which calls us back.
The mixture of sadness and gratitude is not the worst to return one day in the future - again with open heart, eyes and ears. Thanks a lot for taking us with you to that beautiful part of the world! Katharina from Switzerland
For me Norway is one of the most (if not the most) beautiful places in the world. Seeing all those places with your own eyes feels like being enchanted by its beauty-it's truly magical. Watching your videos makes me feel nostalgic. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Hi Maria another great video thank you for sharing the beauty of Norway and a glimps into Norwegian life. I want to move there so badly from Canada but I can’t afford it, so I live vicariously through your videos so thanks again and have a great day.
Oh my goodness, Maria, that was one absolutely stunning video. Wow. You are a really good tour guide! I wanted to be there and to stay on Senja with you for months, too. This place looks mythological. I had never every heard of it - you are right - it is Norway's best kept secret! And how wonderful that it was so warm. I think it was about that warm here where I live in Canada today too (the last three days the weather has been so warm and beautiful), and tomorrow will be around 24 degrees. Climate change is alive and well! I definitely think you have a future in Norwegian travel videography! It is such a stunning country with so many beautiful places. I hope you get to move up there in the future. I'll be coming to visit you! 🙂It's "only" an 11-hour drive from where my Norwegian family live between Trofors, Mosjoen and Mo-i-Rana.
Hej Maria, thank you for your stories, you really ARE a storyteller. I would love to read you one day as well, but for now your videos are a real treat :)
My family history is on Senja. I totally agree with what you say, I have been there five times now. If you had walked south over the mountain where you stayed at Gryllefjord, you would have come to the community of Torsken. Our family church is there. My great-grandmother was raised at Kongsnes, just across the fjord from Torsken. Only foundations and the cemetery are there now, but I go anyway. My grandmother was raised at Kaldfarnes, second fjord to the south. You were so close when you saw Sifjord. I am now watching your video for the second time. I know those mountain tops, but I have not been there. Thank you for taking me from Oregon USA to Senja today.
The most beautiful island in Norway😍 My favorite place in Senja is the road from Storforsen until the village Grunnfarnes. Your video is amazing Maria!
Maria as always it’s so amazing how you capture all these beautiful scenes. I always look forward to watch your video and wishing I could do what you have been doing but I guess one day I will visit Norway and get to see the northern lights, we saw a glimpse of the northern lights in ny but nothing beats the one in northern. Good luck in all your endeavors.
Truly beautiful and also beautifully presented - it‘s clear how mich (and why!) you love it up there We still hope to sail the Norwegian coast one day before we are too old and I would really hope to see places like this, though I have to say that is a loong way north! But never say never, right?! I was surprised you said your airbnb was 1980s - it looked like a 1930/40/50s time capsule to me… well, anything pre-1980s, really. Very cosy and vintage, in any case.
Thank you ❤️❤️. Never say never indeed! I hope you get to go some day :-). Yes, I see what you mean about the 40/50s. I think they tried to make it how houses in that specific area would look during the time the house was made, so maybe the trends were just not moving as fast over there😂
Wow 👌 such a peaceful and perfect place ,to be at one in this stunning 😍 natural environment 🎉. Thanks for sharing 👍 greetings from England 🏴 Simon and Beth ❤❤❤❤
Norway is so beautiful everywhere 😍 I also love the mountains but I have never been at Senja. Thank you for sharing, very nice video, Maria! Klem fra Kiri på Sørlandet
So amazingly beautiful ❤ my totally selfish response 😉😉 was: yes please move to the north and live off your filming ❤ because we all would enjoy your films so much. And I could enjoy even more of the gorgeous landscape of Norway. But all joking aside, thank you for bringing us along, and wow, how beautiful and magical is this island.
I am glad you think so 😂. I think I would be able to make some really cool videos there for sure 😄. It is so much easier with such a landscape to work with. Maybe one day
Thank you! I am not sure how it will be next week unfortunately, but lucky you! Watch out for snow and bring waterproof shoes maybe? It was pretty muddy some places.
It's very different to visit somewhere than to be living there, and there's 24 hours a day 365 days a year... Isolation is a trend on the internet, and that's where I'd rather ask myself: What am I running from? Just moving by itself will never fix anything, because we all carry our backpack with us no matter where we physically are at. This is very crucial to be aware of while daydreaming of moving away, because often we may try to run away from something that will only travel with us in our backpack...
I agree, we sometimes run from our problems by moving! I try to be mindful of that too. but I also have found living in more than one place in my life has added a lot of learning and insight to my life 😊. Sometimes it has been good for me to see there are more than one way to live my life, and I have tried many. I also would not consider moving to Senja the same as moving to "isolation". There are many people living there. And many find that the people up north are more social and welcoming in general than the people down south in the big cities. So lots of people actually feel less isolated there 😊

My great-grandmother was born on Senja and immigrated to the US when she was a little girl. It was wonderful to see her beautiful island, thanks!

What a beautiful place! I like your choice of background music - I'm a big fan of Scandinavian and Celtic folk music (yes they are related)
Thank you so much for the support! And I am so glad you notice the music, it takes such a long time to find it sometimes!
Senja is so beautiful! 😍 Great movie.

Senja mean dusk in our language. Beautiful place right there.

about 1 and a half hour to the top. Not very challenging at all :-). 555 meters above sea level.
