I'm 59 now, and remember feeling the same way at your age. Certain times in our lives will sharpen us towards the future. I'm approaching one of those times myself, so close to 60. Best wishes in your journey and search for meaning.
I am turning 60 on 2 January 2025. I have been feeling the same build up you are mentioned. That feeling of change. This time I plan to run towards it instead of away, since I have learned that you can't stop change. So therefore I booked and planned a journey from my home town, Cape Town, South Africa to Olenilsøya in Lofoten in February 2025. I have never been to Norway but have been living a digital Norwegian life for the past six months since I started planning by indulding each day especially before bedtime, watching movies like this that inspires. All travel apart from flights to Bergen will be by bus and train. I am ready to face the challenges of travel that time of year since the journey is as much part of the process as the destination. A solo journey to reset myself and spend some time in a lovely little house on Olenilsøya. I look forward to coming back with a new understanding and insight into myself and the world that surrounds me.
It was epic! This video brings me back 6 years ago when i was traveling in Norway myself. Those otherworldly mountains and forests can heal one’s soul. Big thanks from Ukraine)
Maria, this has to be one of your BEST videos. Spontaneity is such a precious part of life that we forget about when we are plagued with responsibility. Thank you for the precious reminder 🙂❤️❤️❤️❤️
When life starts feeling uncomfortable for you , it is a sign that you are becoming ready for greater growth and change . It is the process that prepares/pushes you to prepare for the greater that is coming . Goodluck for your growth Maria!
I hope that you found what you wanted in hitting the road by yourself. This was quite a trip. Sometimes when we go off by ourselves we get a new perspective on life. I have had a very few times like that in my life. Now at 78, there is no way I would do that, unless really feeling led to do it. I enjoy your work so very much. You have a voice that lends comfort and peace to me as I watch and listen, thank you for all that. It would be nice to meet you in person. But not a chance of happening. I am the one in Washington state, usa. Hugs!
"I always have such great idea" is exactly what I often tell myself... and afterwards (the effort, the swearing and all), there is a sense of self-contentment to have reached the goal!
Maria, you are an inspiration, you out there feeling vulnerable and scared, but brave too, out searching for answers to life’s many questions, and in the process of doing so you are sharing so many amazing and beautiful experience’s. I hope you find your path and answers along the way. Looking forward to seeing part two of your journey.
Absolutely epic! Bravo for biting the bullet and being so brave to go it alone and rediscover your adventurist spirit. Thank you for your honesty and authenticity as it is really so inspiring to do the very same myself,
Hello! I just moved to Norway from Australia just over a month ago and suddenly your channel popped up for me! I'm living in Stavanger but I was so happy to see all the places you travel and give us tours of throughout Norway as I'm definitely looking forward to exploring and taking in everything this beautiful country has to offer. I wanted to leave a big compliment for production on your vids they are immensely fun and interesting to watch. I'm also a big fan of herbology and gardening so learning about what I can do in this type of weather is so nice! :) can't wait for what's next❤
How wonderful, to see your latest contribution on a grey and sad Monday morning in the UK. Truly inspirational and soothing, I am looking forward to part II. Thank you very much.
Oh Maria, I am SO proud of you, girl! And I am SO excited that you ended up in "my" part of Norway! Mosjoen (sorry, don't know how to use Norsk characters on my computer) is the nearest town to where my mother came from (her family farm is along the E6 in Grane, between Trofors and Laksfors), and I have a first cousin who lives there, and I have spent time along Sjogata as well, and seen De Sju Sostre. I didn't know that you could hike up there, but if I can get back there in summer I will ask my cousin to take me up there. We drove to Sandnessjon last time I was there and drove to Donna and the outer islands. So beautiful. When you said you were going to do something special in Mosjoen I thought you were going to go on the zip line. Did you hear about that when you were there? Wow, I just love that view from the top of the mountain. Norway is so beautiful, and because of my connection this just made my heart sing! I think this adventure is like a vision quest for you, and I am excited to see part 2, and to follow along to see where your life takes you. Beste hilsen fra Canada!
I love that this spoke to you Janina! "Your" part of Norway really is something! And thank you, I am a little proud of me too. I really needed this. I wanted to go to Dønna too, but the day I tried to get there the ferry line was way to long so I would have had to wait for hours. Next time I will go there for sure. I heard about the zipline in Mosjøen but I did not dare to do it 🙈🙈. Have you done it?
@@Mariaandtheforest Well I hope you are more than a "little" proud of yourself! You must have been very sore in the legs and totally exhausted for the next 2-3 days, but I also hope you felt emotionally "filled"! I only heard about the zipline maybe a year ago on UA-cam. I have been on others, but this one I think is much longer. It is quite exhilarating to go flying along one! Perhaps you and Bendik can go together another time! I do hope that your time away filled and calmed your restless spirit and that you now realize that there is no limit to what you are capable of! Sending hugs to you!
Stunning film-making :) Often found myself smiling at your thoughts and openness. Good on you, for asking the big questions of yourself. I believe that humans have that capacity for a reason. Aroha from Aotearoa New Zealand.
This is so beautiful ❤️ I think so many of us lose ourselves a bit as we get older due to so many things, yes relationships (even the best ones) but also I guess it's just to do with more responsibilities that life brings. I think we all need to do what Maria has done sometimes, whatever age; so that that we can come back ❤️
I remember reaching 30 and it seemed at the time to be leaving my youth behind. 40,50 60 70 - none of them felt like a turning point. This adventure was a brilliant idea. Climbing the mountain so memorable a point to move forward with confidence, an achievement.
Thank you Maria. This inspired me ❤. I too am feeling restless at the moment and you reminded me that getting out into wild places can provide moments of clarity or even an escape from thinking altogether 👍
Your video truly touched my heart and soul! I so relate to the feelings you expressed and how adventure in nature is how we come to know ourselves. Thank you so much for sharing your epic journey! I look forward to part 2.
Oh my gosh, epic is the right word for this. Thank you so much for all the trouble you went to to share tis experience with your viewers. Absolutely stunning.
This is really inspiring, thank you for sharing it! I live on the southern tip of a beautiful island off the west coast of Canada. I have been contemplating a solo road trip north for years and this video is definitely giving me a push to make it happen!
Spectacular scenery. Thanks for sharing. You are very brave to travel such distances on your own in this day and age. Keep being you and try and enjoy life more. X
W O W !!! What an adventure!!! I really had tears in my eyes when you reached the top of the mountain at midnight... How insane beautiful is this landscape 🥰...
Thank you for sharing another story. I spent the first three decades of my life working on the problem of how to live. On the verge of the fourth decade I solved that problem, at least in some sense. But the solution involved letting go of almost everything I’d spend the first three decades building. And that’s ok. Most of that time was spent out of balance. Letting go of what I’d gained during that time was the price of returning to equilibrium. The universe will always give us balance - it’s mostly just a question of whether and when and how we surrender to that fact, lol. I’d also offer, perhaps as a kind of gift in exchange for this story, that not everything we think is right, and not everything we feel is true. The thoughts and feelings are real, but that doesn’t mean they’re (always) correct. To paraphrase Alan Watts on meditation: it’s important to go out of your mind every once in awhile - it’s the only way to come back to your senses. Our minds are such wonderfully powerful tools and such lamentably mediocre masters. May this next turn on your path be filled with many blessings.
Absolutely beautifully captured scenes. You are definitely beating all the bigger UA-camrs for me with your ability to tell a story! I've been longing for the confidence of being independent as well but it is easy to become too comfortable in a relationship and forget about yourself sometimes. I was really cheering you on when you were conquering all these challenges by yourself. Very inspiring ❤
Maria, you are a privileged person and blessed by GOD, on our planet there are almost 8 billion human beings and you are one of the only people who could see the beautiful landscape on that last mountain, man the feeling you felt is incalculable, congratulations, your video from beginning to end is better than many Netflix movies, the only thing missing is Bendik. Curious, how long did it take to climb those more than 4,000 steps of the first mountain? See you video II
Breathtakig views at the end. I remember experiencing the midnight sun above the Arctic Circle in Norway (visiting relatives), when the sun touched the mountain top and then start rising again, but the views from your mountain top are just other-worldly. Thank you.
This was majestic I watched this video all the way and wish it would have continued lol. Thank you for taking me on the journey with you. You are very brave to go up the mountain all alone, good luck with everything!
Beautiful video, and nice to see the old part of MOSJØEN again. I spent a couple of nights there on my only trip to Norway four years ago.. and inappropriate for that person to make a comment on you eating alone in that restaurant. Some people like eating alone, or due to circumstances are by themselves..Maybe it’s Norwegian thing, but that would be considered rude in the US
