LOVE the Macho Man shirt! My father was a transmission mechanic for 30 years and i practically grew up in his shop. I could smell the fluid while watching this!
I think the 2 springs together would equate to stock shifts. The stronger spring means a weaker shift.. the small spring is for firmest shifts. It allows the fluid to move the piston faster. I put a B&M kit into a 4L80E like 10 years ago. I plan to do another one soon. Thanks for the step by step video.
A good friend of mine has owned a performance oriented mechanic shop that specializes in transmissions for many years and he uses TransGo stuff a lot, really likes it. I've had quite a few built by him using their stuff and have always been happy with the results.
I haven't heard many bad things about it, aside from some other commenters pointing out that it's not advised to drill out for that relief valve. Oh well, I guess we'll see what happens with it lol
SniderTron 3000 Yeah it's a mixed bag on that, I've seen some live with it and some not. Actually softening mine up helped out, it's cool to bark tires on 1-2 and 2-3 shifts but it's hard on parts. A crisp but more importantly fast engagement is what you want.
That's exactly what I'm hoping for. Just firm, crisp shifts. I got the truck back together today and drove it home and it felt okay. Didn't feel anything slipping, but I will admit that I was expecting harder shifts. But, I know with the old transmission, I wanted to up the line pressure too because it was really soft. I'm not sure if I should go back and plug that relief off or just leave it and see if it helps.
SniderTron 3000 You can play around with it, plugging it may help some. To tell you the truth over the years I've come to realize that old 400's or a glide is the way to go. I just always end up having problems with anything else. Granted I haven't chose to go much faster than 9.20's or 30's but a low 9 is still a low 9 and I've had 400's and glides last a long time running that number.
Hell yeah let me know how firm it shifts I've been thinking about doing a like shift kit but that kit looked pretty complete with pretty decent instructions and a pretty good price
420...nice LOL I like how you push your boundaries of knowledge. It's a great way to learn new things and discover untapped capabilities of ones self. I have watched all of your videos it took me a while but I got through them all. I got some great ideas for my 05 Yukon from watching your stuff. I think its funny because I once was a car whore, with 5 cars and 4 motorcycles back in my youth. It's nice to see another person pushing the envelope. It's the best way to learn. Please keep it up. Love the videos, even the early stuff. The cars I miss the most were my 56 210 hardtop with a hypo 327 and 3 on the tree. My 68 charger with a police interceptor 440 mag with the torqueflight 727, best tranny ever. good times.
I know this is 4 years old but is @17:45 required? I paid someone to add a Transgo shift kit to my rebuild and it doesn't have this plate/valve you add.
Good video, enjoyed watching it, gives me hopes that my trans will shift a bit sharper one day. Low budget and high labor i love that combination. Thanks very informative
man for the first 30 sec of this video I thought did I send something..LOL.. for real you took the line at the bottom of the box [ @ 2:00 ] to heart very impressive video. two thumbs up!
It'd take me 2wks an a trip to the transmission shop cause I'd be the one that fucked it up. Good job to u for having the tools an patience to do that kind of upgrade.
@5:40 : There is no way I could have spent as much time and energy as you did on cleaning the case, only to wheel it back into the garage, without giving it a bit more cleaning time, with a brush, to loosen the last little bit of sludge off of it. To each his own. 😎
How much hp do you think it can handle. I want to buy this. Replace clutches, and put at 300m input for a safe 1000hp build (700-800 realistically but overbuilding)
It looks intimidating guys but I recommend to know your parts study watch videos study the instructions make sure u dont loose the check balls for the valce body double check the valve body conections its a challenge but its tottaly worth it

But, Denmah did the one in his Colorado this exact same way except he drilled the separator plate to 1/8" where I only did the .096". But his trans took a 9.7 pass and held up for a long time

Transmissions really aren't that bad. Just a lot more little pieces, but that's why I would take a picture of what it looked like every time I would take something apart lol
I'm probably not gonna do it, but it is cleaned and I had the local trans guy look at it when I was trying to figure out what went wrong with the trans and he said it looked fine. But, I think I'm going to keep all the parts for that one together and have him rebuild it eventually
Nooooo dont drill the void. Its been known for the ball to not seat and cause issues. Read here sites.google.com/site/sloppywiki/everything-ls/4l80e-info?authuser=0
It's a bad mod because if the transgo ball doesn't seal perfectly...or over time it wears out and leaks...or gets cocked sideways etc...then it leaks torque signal fluid and causes horribly LOW line pressure and cooks the trans It doesn't really fix anything and there's a big risk to break shit. Moral of the story... don't do the relief mod
There's some discussion that the pressure relief modification might not be a good idea. According to the Sloppy Wiki "It doesn't really fix anything and there's a big risk to break sh!t. I'm debating on redoing it with my old valve body, just have to check to see if the do interchange. I did a brief googling and it looks like it should.
I forget exactly why people were having problems, but I think it had to do with a fluid starvation issue. Something about the holes the kit makes you drill allowing too much fluid to bypass and starving the transmission, and I think that only applies to performance applications where you're gonna need higher line pressure. I hope I didn't come off as discouraging, I've just done some research about the hd2 kit and I remember reading different forums and Facebook groups and seeing the same people recommend skipping some of the steps.

you'll need to buy the longer shift rod *or take off your other 80e* and fab some mounts for your nss for this older trans to work with goldie.
I was just going to say the same thing. Looked through comments to see who else picked up on that. 👍
The real question here is,
Did u do the transmission work before or after 4:20??

It didn't take any special tools. For the c clips I just used a set of needle nose and bent the tips inward a little to help grab it
If you want to try another kind of cleaner try Member’s mark oven cleaner
Another good degreaser is called awesome it can mostly be found and the dollar tree stores
Try the awesome, worked for me let it sit a bit douse it heavy all DG and Walmart sell it it's cheap...
Have you considered doing the "sloppy" trans brake and or a 2-step?
I have been considering it actually lol

Always use Wal Mart spray 9 and p Power and then a wire brush in drill, but oven cleaner would work to take it apart

Did it feel slower with the 80e
Hey how's the supercharger holding up? Hope it's alright, I'm the one you got it from.

Well that sounds perfectly normal to me because your engine doesn’t shift it your transmission that shifts!😏
How do you install the shifters like in jack black
So I guess the kit isn't available anymore for that cheap? No link
Lol I forgot. Uno momento

How are your shifts? Hard?
I’m following this closely as I am doing the same. What’s your plan for the shift rod and neutral safety switch/gear indicator?
What does this kit do
That is an excellent kit. And by reprogram they mean reprogram the hydraulic system.
