You know I am really not sure...I just learned to do it that way. I am wondering if you just sew straight across it might not make a nice diagonal corner. I will have to do a little experiment! Thanks for watching and for your question!

Phyllis taught me to backstitch from that 1/4” then back to that 1/4” then angle to the tip. It helps me to fold more accurately to start the side
