I hear the word “roast” a lot in these videos. Yet every time I watch, there is no roast. Only amateur musicians performing original music. Every time I fall for it. When will you show me this roast you’re apparently so good at cooking, Rudy? My roasts are dry and flavorless. Please show me how to make my roasts juicy and bursting with flavor. Thank you, Rudy. Doom metal is ridiculously slow and uses minor scales. Black metal, death metal and grindcore can be ridiculously fast but use different scales. There are death bands that use dissonant chords but plenty who use lots of major and even neoclassical scales or even celtic. Death is more syncopated whereas black is steadier/washier. Djent uses lots of polyrhythms/polymeters and lots of dissonant chords. Metal is actually the _most_ variable and inclusove style and is the genre that has the most subgenres. I would argue that at some point, it transcended being a genre and became simply a _way,_ albeit an aggressive way, of playing music. Country and rap are the least variable, most constricting styles; oddly enough they're also the ones that depend the most on "lyrics."
Agree, but it's easy to like what you created, it fits your taste right in the center and you like it, but it doesn't mean it's complete. It's easy to fall in liking what you created even though you wouldn't like it that much if it wasn't yours. At least it works that way for me. I like the stuff I make, but I know it's really raw and I need to grow a lot to make something decent.
This is the philosophy behind every punk, post-punk and new wave band. And it's absolutly true, imho. I don't care about your tecnique, I care about your music.

Follow any right of centre political channel and you’ll see half of their shit is shadowbanned despite them not violating TOS. UA-cam has tons of subtle little ways of punishing creators who piss it off and a lot of the proof of this came out during the senate hearings at the end of last year and through project veritas leaks.

This video series is inspiring me to try and produce something new that is still distinctly metal. I've had the feeling for a while that the possibilities of metal have been explored to the point where any further iteration takes you out of the genre itself. It's definitely a challenge to do anything in metal that hasn't been overdone by someone already.
One thing I don't get, is that you're mostly listening to jazz metal, jazz fusion or something related to this, and then people are supporting you, to be roasted by you, but they all play (for the most part) the same kind of "metally-ish" music. It's really weird to me

it's very intesting how he's in that vibe of "waiting for the moment to roast it" and how that brings the perfect formula for a honest and rigorous review. sometimes you see he surprised when the song breaks his expectation and YET there's the "i thought that this would be worse" silence. like a "not roastable" and therefore GOOD break of expectation. it's the instant of a second thought. i like it.
I liked that the second guys had no shame to put a display of their mix despite the fact that they just turned up the bass, gain and basically cut off all mid and treble. I'd be ashamed of that mix, this is the stuff I did when I was 14 and wanted to sound metal.

it's very intesting how he's in that vibe of "waiting for the moment to roast it" and how that brings the perfect formula for a honest and rigorous review. sometimes you see he surprised when the song breaks his expectation and YET there's the "i thought that this would be worse" silence. like a "not roastable" and therefore GOOD break of expectation. it's the instant of a second thought. i like it.
I liked that the second guys had no shame to put a display of their mix despite the fact that they just turned up the bass, gain and basically cut off all mid and treble.
I'd be ashamed of that mix, this is the stuff I did when I was 14 and wanted to sound metal.
